Massanutten For Kids II - w/ Playroom and Outdoor Fun (ZipLine, Low Ropes)

Bedrooms 3
Property type chalet
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

Minimum Stay
2 - 4 nights

About the property

Chalet, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Full Baths (Sleeps 6-8)

This classic chalet-style cabin is set back from the street at the end of a court on a beautiful wooded lot... one of the largest in Massanutten. It backs to common space and has ample privacy, yet is minutes from all Massanutten activities and amenities.

The cabin features over 2500 square feet of living space, as well as a wrap around deck and screened in porch. It's a great space for families, small groups, and kids of all ages.

The cabin has three levels of living space, three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a well-appointed kitchen, a walk-out basement, rec room with flat screen and Apple TV, a playroom for the kids, a flat driveway (a luxury around here in the winter), screened in porch, and a large wrap-around deck with a propane BBQ grill.

- For the kids - Inside

Every vacation home has a few board games and a deck of cards (this home is no exception), but we know how excited our own kids are when they find something new... so our playroom is stocked with blocks, dinosaurs, cars, trains, puzzles... etc. So there is plenty to keep even the little ones entertained on a rainy day.

- For the kids - Outside

And if its not a rainy day? We know that families come to Massanutten to enjoy the outdoors, and since our lot has such great outdoor space we wanted to provide some options for the kids right here at the house. We've set up a zip line, low ropes, and balance beam. Don't worry, the zip line and low ropes are VERY low (read: safe)… but we had a kid focus group one day and they all said that it was great fun.

- Amenities -

We designed and furnished this cabin with our own family in mind. We love the outdoors and open spaces, and we love the look of exposed beams and the classic chalet-style cabin... Inside we wanted CLEAN (our home ALWAYS will be) and we wanted modern decor and amenities. We offer high speed wireless internet access, a flat-screen TV, Apple TV (Netflix streaming included), and a fully stocked kitchen for all your culinary needs.

- Things to do -

We're located smack in the middle of Massanutten Resort, not more than a couple of minutes from all resort activities including the ski slope, indoor/outdoor water park, year-round tubing, two golf courses, go-karts, mini-golf, ice skating (seasonal), horseback riding, fishing ponds, playgrounds, and fantastic hiking. We have also purchased summer passes to the mountain-top outdoor heated pool for all of our guests. And of course, you can venture outside the resort to the nearby Shenandoah National Park, Shenandoah River, Luray Caverns, local wineries, lavender farm... etc. Options for outdoor entertainment in The Valley are endless.

- We make it easy -

We always provide our guests with linens and towels, dish soap, hand soap, laundry detergent, and other cleaners. We also provide starter sets of paper products like paper towels and toilet paper. Although we don't inventory other items, some essentials often stay stocked such as assorted spices, cooking oil, sweeteners… etc.

Just pack your clothes, a little food and drink, and your family and friends... and we'll always provide you with a great place to stay for your Massanutten vacation.

-NOTE- Must be 25 to rent.

About Matt Carrier

We met at James Madison and live in Northern Virginia with our three children. We volunteer at school, church, and with youth sports. We spend as little time as possible waiting in Tyson's Corner traffic.

We started coming back to The Valley a few years ago and found Massanutten to be the perfect weekend vacation spot for our family. This was something that I definitely did not anticipate as a ski instructor here in 1999.

We were very excited to purchase this home in the Summer of 2014, and have had fun preparing a great space to share with our friends and our guests.

Matt Carrier purchased this chalet in 2014

Why Matt Carrier chose Shenandoah Valley

We love the activities that Massanutten Resort provides, as well as the proximity to the endless opportunities for outdoor recreation in the Shenandoah Valley.

We love the look and feel of this house, but it's the outdoor space that makes it. Many of the lots at Massanutten are on fairly steep slopes and the outdoor space isn't as usable as we would like. We really wanted the kids to be able to play outside, and we knew right away that we could create an outdoor space here that our kids would love. This relatively level lot is one of the biggest in Massanutten, it backs to common space, and the house is set back at the end of a court.

What makes this chalet unique

There are tons of activities at Massanutten Resort and elsewhere in The Valley, but you don't even need to go anywhere to appreciate the outdoors from this home.

If you want to leave the house in the morning and come back at night, then you can stay anywhere. We like this place because our kids don't want to leave... and that means we can be more flexible when planning (or not planning) our days.

A little something for everyone

  • 5 of 5

My family enjoyed our Thanksgiving together at this home and it accommodated us all perfectly. Our kids are 6, 5, and 3 years of age and were able to play on the zipline with out much assistance- so it was fun being able to watch them on it through the patio door while sitting in the living room. There is also a nice reading nook that is perfect for kids to play or sleep. One of our guests, who uses a cane, was able to access the home easily and slept comfortably on the entry level. The beds were extremely comfortable and the linens were luxurious. The house was clean and well stocked. Matt was a pleasure to work with. He was responsive, accessible, and went above and beyond in ensuring that our stay was everything we wanted it to be. We hope to return to this home again and again. Thanks for having us!

We had a great time in this property. Our kids enjoyed the zip line. The basement is nice and has a lot of board games for the entire family. Great location. A perfect winter family vacation.

Wonderful rental for a friend's getaway or family

  • 4 of 5

Finding the location of this rental was pretty easy. The house was huge...plenty of space to spread out and enjoy yourself. The rental was simply decorated and quite clean. Plenty to do for children and for big children like myself. We spent most of our time in Charlottesville but, returning back to this rental was a nice retreat. Fully loaded with access to Netflix, WIFI, games, basic items in the kitchen, washer/dryer....

The only negative is that the mattresses aren't that comfortable

Awesome Weekend Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I spent 3 nights here for Labor Day weekend and we had the BEST time! There was so much to do both at the house and nearby, plenty of amenities, or the option to just relax. We have 2 teenagers, 12 and 13, and they each brought a friend along. The house is perfect for kids, especially if you have little ones. The have zip lines and ropes if your kids are smaller (ours did not use). However, even with teens they used the outdoor open space to play football, took advantage of the board games and cards, and they even did some puzzles. The best part was they were not in front of the TV and enjoyed what the house had to offer. Mornings were perfect and cool on the screened in porch, and the only thing my husband and I wish we had were larger coffee mugs to sit and sip longer!

The house was stocked with the basics (we cooked in one night), good supply of sheets and towels, was very clean and the beds very comfy!

On the Massanutten resort property, we did the indoor water park, mini golf, and bumper cars. We hiked Kaylor's Knob one morning which is a good 3 miles out and back with awesome mountain views. One day we took a trip to the White Oak Lavender Farm and Cross Keys Vineyards, and it was hands down our favorite day! The kids loved the lavender farm too. On our last day heading home, we did Luray Caverns, the Garden Maze, and the museum houses. Also a great must see in the area.

We had a tiny trouble with the wifi on day two, but a quick text to Matt the owner and it was all fixed! They were great in communicating and the overview sheet they provide gives you a TON of great information.

I highly recommend this property for all seasons of Massanutten fun :)

Great Homes for Kids

  • 4 of 5

This is a great home for kids . Just imagine kids having there own zip line and low ropes that even a 3 year can enjoyed playing on. Great playroom with an air hockey and board games to play for older kids. With the hot weather we were having, the screen in porch with the fan circulating and was very nice for the adults to enjoy while the kids were playing. The layout of the home was unique considering it was an A Frame home. Very enjoyable time

Matt was response to our needs when there was a battery missing for the outside fan and light. The home was cleaned and maintained when we arrived. We left some brochures in the screen orch for you and your future guest.

There were 9 of us most of the time and 11 for 2 nights splitting up between two homes close by. We noticed that there weren't enough plates , utensils, glasses and serving dishes for the 11 of us. We did alternate homes to serve meals expect for the 2 nights we ate out.

Great property, great location!!!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place to stay for vacation, a home away from home. Centrally located in the resort but still private. Highly recommend it to anyone going to Massanutten.
