About the property

Contemporary Home With 3 Bedrooms & Incredible Kitchen. Feels Like a Cruise Ship

When we sold our family home down the street we moved our karma and love for the 'aina (land) here. Hopefully you will get the same feeling we have: peace, serenity and the knowledge that Pele and Kanaloa watch over the Big Island and the special piece of it we mind for them.

We bought this property six years ago and completely remodeled it from the ground up. It has state of the art finishes throughout and is meant to provide a tranquil respite for Lisha and I after we complete our work with the Foreign Service. It's a place for families to gather together and celebrate what's important.

When you walk in through the custom designed front door, you will start to see the fabulous design features and art immediately. Large spaces and endless light fill the main area which include the living room, kitchen, dining area and lanais. There are two bedrooms, one with a queen and one with two twins, on the same level.

Take the staircase downstairs and you enter the realm of the sixty by twenty foot wide Family Suite. It has a queen bed, a king size bed and a beautiful bathroom with a free standing tub. The WC is in a separate room and there is my favorite, a double shower which is also a steam room. There is a second, fully covered lanai on this level as well. I can't live without it so just outside the bedroom's side door there is a second shower looking over the ocean.

OCCUPANCY-In consideration of our neighbors and because of liability issues, OCCUPANCY AND USE OF THE HOUSE IS STRICTLY LIMITED TO THE NUMBER OF GUESTS WE HAVE AGREED TO IN YOUR RESERVATION. Other persons are not allowed on the property and there can be no loud parties at any time. Our neighbors closely monitor the neighborhood and record and report disruptive events as soon as they happen. IF WE RECEIVE A COMPLAINT REGARDING EXCESSIVE TRAFFIC, NOISE OR PARTIES OF ANY KIND YOU WILL FORFEIT YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT. We understand that many wish to have events and parties and in fact love a good time ourselves. If that is your need then our home is not the place for you.

Why Brian Crawford chose Hilo District

This is our Hawaii homes and is complimented by a place in Hermanus, just outside of Cape Town, South Africa. Incidentally they are nearly perfect antipodean points....

What makes this house unique

Fabulous ocean vistas, sounds of the sea, and the Big Island to explore...

Guestbook comments from the owner

We arrived on the 16th and left on Christmas Day just as we planned over a year ago. So much changed in a year but all conspired to bring us to this wonderful home on the best part of the Big Island. This home is very welcoming and perfectly located to enjoy the view, the sounds of the waves and the frogs. The lanai is wonderful... We spent much of our time out there. The showers and the big tub downstairs are great treats. Easy access to the Farmers Market to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, coffee, and locally made breads. The market was also a great source for wonderful presents to take back to the Mainland. Come and enjoy this place. This house is in great harmony with the essence of Hilo. Mahalo!

Fantastic House Over the Water

  • 5 of 5

We visited the Big Island with a group of friends to celebrate my 50th. The first stop was Hilo and this spectacular house! The view was amazing looking directly east into the ocean. Each morning we were treated to spectacular sunrise as we were up early coming from the East Coast. The house is just 2-3 miles to downtown Hilo and an easy drive or Uber. While the house does not have air conditioning, it cooled down nicely at night with windows open and fans blowing. The house is ideally suited for exploring waterfalls on the east side of the island and easy access to Volcano National Park. Highly recommended!

Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

My fiancé ( now husband) and my mom stayed here when we arrived to Hilo to prepare for our wedding. Wonderful house, well-appointed, eclectic art- convenient both to in town adventures (try Ken's House of Pancakes and Cafe Pesto) and a spectacular place to return and relax after our longer treks like Akaka Falls and Volcano National Park! The view from the upstairs house balcony is gorgeous especially at sunrise and sunset ( downstairs is great too and we watched the sunrise from bed one morning!) We were lulled to sleep each night by the ocean sounds. The kitchen had plenty of cookware and glassware and my fiancé was able to cook a several course meal with everything he needed. One item which wasn't an issue for us but might be to those with mobility limitations is the stairs that lead downstairs ( where two of the queen beds are located) were steep enough that mom ( who is spry but is almost 80 years old) wasn't comfortable trying to navigate going down and up them. Luckily there was a queen bed upstairs to accommodate her! I want to wrap up by saying that we stayed at 4 properties in the two weeks before and after the wedding and this one was... by far... our favorite!!

One of the best places we have stayed..period.

Hi Brian and family,

We absolutely loved your home and enjoyed the comforts and all the attention to detail, and of course the breathtaking view. Thank you and hoping to be back some time soon. We fell in love with the island and there is no question where we would like to stay when we come next.

Best to your family!

Cheers,

Babu

Paradise found

  • 5 of 5

The house and furnishings are gorgeous and the views are breathtaking. The house has a perfect location to all the attractions: The botanical gardens, Hilo, Valcano National Park , beaches and restaurants. We witnessed sunrises, swam with sea turtles, saw bananas, coconuts, avocados, and so many amazing tropical flowers and plants. We truly had a magical time.

Owner's Response: Aloha Stephanie! Thanks for those kind words. We love it when you love it. We are house proud for sure and it makes us so happy when our guests enjoy it. Being so far aware serving our country in Senegal, it also helps us remember how blessed we are to have such a lovely place to call home. Please come visit us again :)

Owner's Response: Our pleasure, Dorothy! Glad you mentioned the AC as some potential guests are concerned about how hot it will be. Those trade winds really do keep it comfortable and if the house were closed up with air conditioning, you would miss not only the smell of the ocean but the sounds as well.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Belinda! Our kids, all now in university, picked most of those games as they were growing up or were our favorites that we passed down to them. Really good games don't need to be replaced, just refreshed! Aloha, Brian
