Best trip ever, got to see America Pharaoh win the triple crown. I don't remember if the place was advertised as two separate apartments right next to each other, but it still worked out great for us. seemed to take about and hour to get anywhere in Manhattan. People in the area were great, My family loved Joes Pizza right around the corner. negative I have is we didn't have enough towels to last us a week, but we did have 10 people.
Eight women from California with common interests in tennis at the U.S. Open and sightseeing in the city found housing that accommodated all of (4 shared beds) us comfortably and allowed us to fix breakfast each morning and gather together for "happy hour" or a nightcap in our common living area with tennis on our "huge" tv screen. The 2.5 baths allowed all of us to get ready for our days of adventure in a timely manner. The apartments were newly refurbished and the property manager was readily available to fill in needs and amenities as they were discovered and reported. The large tv screens in all of bedrooms (also new) allowed each of us the freedom to catch up on our favorite shows without fighting over the remote. Kitchens are well equipped (could use more silverware) with brand new appliances if one wants to prepare meals- needless to say 8 women on vacation did not wish to do so. The subway station is directly across the street so we did not have far to walk at the end of our day.
Now, for the drawbacks. Needs closet space desperately. Know that the subway is above ground and directly in front of the two bedrooms in the larger apartment, but those occupying those rooms were not bothered by the constant traffic, in part because of triple panes windows. DO NOT ride the subway to Flushing Meadows-take a taxi which can get you there in about 15 minutes instead of a long ride with two transfers. If you are looking for up scale locations for spending time in Manhattan, this is not the place; however, this location is safe and the locals were friendly and helpful. We shopped at a nearby supermarket for the basics, had two meals in the area and were happy with results in the ethnically diverse neighborhood.
Overall, we loved our stay and the apartment itself, and certainly the services provided by the property manager, were worthy of 5 stars.
