This cabin was just what we were looking for to have a nice, relaxing getaway!
I've always admired the Minnesota DNR log cabins that were built in the 30's, and thought it would be fun to live in one for a few days.
The Marcell Lodge is just that, with some modern cabin amenities that add to it's comfort.
We spent a long weekend enjoying the rustic log cabin, that has been amazingly well maintained. For example, my wife recognized that logs in log cabins will collect dust, but the Marcell lodge was not dusty, and no cobwebs.
In fact it has some very comfortable amenities - a sizable kitchen, modern bathroom, air conditioning, and beds for ten!
Lake water quality is excellent, and there's a nice little beach for swimming.
We tried fishing with the boat (included) and quickly found that the lake is VERY deep. So - the family fished off of the lodge dock and fishing pier catching lots of sunfish, and some nice sized Large Mouth Bass. The park held a raptor demonstration while we were there, featuring a Falcon, Hawk and Owl. If you don't want to cook, the Timberwolf Inn is a nice, nearby restaurant and bar. The only concern for some might be the steep hill down to the lake. Otherwise it's a fun historical place to stay. We're considering an extended family event there next year!
We had so much fun at this beautiful cabin. Ranier Lake had lots of fish (perch, sunnies, bass...), a nice little sandy beach for the kids to play in and great boats to take us across. The cabin is clean and had everything we needed to prepare meals in the modern kitchen. We enjoyed the large kitchen table and also ate a few meals outside at the picnic tables after grilling our dinner.
The historical cabin we found out was a Ranger station in the 1930's. The cabin was well maintained and had I believe we mostly original features. We had plenty of room for everyone in the cabin. The kitchen had just about everything we needed. The filtered water in every sink was a nice feature.
Our stay at this historical cabin was just what we needed. Beautiful pine trees swaying and sounded like whistling in the wind.
We had nightly campfires. While sitting by the fire we could hear the loons on the lake and one night we heard wolves in the distance. The stars were abundant!
We used the motor boat and paddle boat just about everyday.
We would definitely come back!
Great cabin for family get together. We have stayed twice and really enjoyed ourselves. It's nice to have paddle boat, canoe, and small motor boat available with the cabin rental. Kitchen is especially nice. Very private with beautiful view of the lake. The main floor bathroom could have a tub surround curtain making it more possible to use as a shower, but we did manage with just the basement level shower. Pleasant staff at the nearby visitor center. All in all, a good experience for adults and kids!
Our family had a great time at the lodge. Fantastic getaway that had ample creature comforts, but still gave us the chance to withdraw from the world for awhile. The fishing and swimming were good in the cleanest lake I've ever seen. We did some golfing a short drive away in Bigfork and headed down to Grand Rapids for a day trip to do some shopping. Highly recommend!
