I am a commercial real estate broker and self storage facility and office building owner with over 40 years of experience. I reside in Charleston SC when not at my log cabin located just down the mountain from the Shamrock House. My partner in the Shamrock House is an attorney and semi pro shrimp fisherman residing in Mt. Pleasant SC.
Walter Carr Owner/Manager purchased this cabin in 2004
For many years I observed the property as I drove along the Moorefield Memorial Highway with its very interesting architecture. I was always curious and hoping for a close up look. I got that look when it came on the market and was taken by the buildings and grounds. We purchased it, renovated the buildings and grounds and now you have an opportunity to enjoy the results.
It is truly unique. The grounds cover 10 aces bordered by Rocky Bottom Creek and the Jocassee Gorges Heritage Preserve. There are extensive stone walls and walks laid down in the 1920's and many specimen sized trees. Many different wild flowers can be seen throughout out the growing season including rare Oconee Bells and Trillium's. The main cabin is of cedar logs with American Chestnut paneling and floors. The extra large porch of the main cabin has hand made tables, chairs and swings by local artisan Bob McCall. The Trout Stream House has great views of the Bear Meadow and Rocky Bottom Creek. Locals tell tales of Nancy the Ghost who makes herself known from time to time in the main cabin. Maybe yes maybe no. The location is such that one can be on the Foothills Trail in less than five minutes and at Lake Keowee or Jocassee in 30 minutes and also Brevard or Pickens in about the same time.
Spent a few days at the Shamrock House with our family. What a cool, historic place and it is right in the middle of the Jocassee Gorges wilderness! The place is rustic, has a great trout stream and it's off the beaten path. Brevard, NC is the closest town, but we really did not want to leave once we got there. We explored the Jocassee wilderness and Sassafras Mountain just up the road for an awesome view of the sunset. This place is on our permanent list of vacation spots- what a great way to experience the mountains.
