About August and Susanne Vernon

What happens when two artists from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania go on vacation to the Gulf Coast of Florida in their first year as empty nesters and stumble across their dream home just a block away from the beach? They buy it of course and renovate it into a Fine Art Gallery and Studios on the first story and an elegant tropical getaway on the second story. Our names are Susanne and August, and we would like to welcome you to step back in time and experience a relaxing 'old Florida' vacation in style.

Why August and Susanne Vernon chose St Petersburg Area

The Bungalows location is perfectly situated in the heart of Gulfports Waterfront District. Experience the colorfully vibrant restaurants and shopping of Beach Blvd directly in front of the BBB, while the secluded 2nd floor rear location provides a tranquil oasis for your ideal vacation.

This property also offers a unique artistic experience. The owners August and Susanne operate their art studio and gallery located on the Beach Blvd side of the property. Whether you are lounging in the tropical courtyard garden, or browsing the fine artistry of the gallery, the Bungalow is sure to offer a delightful vacation experience.

What makes this bungalow unique

Have we mentioned we are in the Heart of Gulfport's Waterfront District? We are surrounded by wonderful restaurants and shops in an undiscovered jewel of Floridas' Gulf Beach towns. All year, every Tuesday is the Tuesday Fresh Market festival. Every first Friday and third Saturday there is an Artwalk Festival... these events take place right at our front door. We would be happy to accommodate any special requests for your stay as your personal concierge.

Susanne is a renown mosaic artist and instructor. She is happy to offer private or small group mosaic workshops. Consider an artistic tropical retreat for yourself, or with friends and family.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Staying in Gulfport is like stumbling on paradise, and staying at this listing is having your very own secret spot! Everything about this listing is clean, comfy and cozy, leaving you feeling quite at home. Communication with the hosts was stellar, as is the location. I had the wonderful experience of waking up with a farmer's market out front on Tuesday. It was great walking past the stalls looking for breakfast foods. Susanne also tells me that twice a month there's also an artist market, so I'm definitely going to book again.

Cool place.

  • 5 of 5

This location was right in the middle of the Gulfport downtown. Plenty of restaurants and bars in walking distance. The bungalow was in the back of the August and Suzanne's art studio You have plenty of privacy and your own private entrance. The bungalow very clean and equipped. August and Suzanne very pleasant and professional. I recommend this for a cool unusual get-a-way. Perfect for a couples trip. Their art studio in the front is really cool also.

The Beach Breeze Bungalow was perfect in many ways. Close to the water, all the stores/restaurants, and a short drive to St Pete. Great owners and adorable decor. Thank you for having us!

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

I'm a born and raised Floridian but I've never spent much time in Gulfport. Me & my boyfriend decided to go away for the weekend and could not have been happier with our choice to go to Gulfport. The town is very laid back and surrounded by amazing restaurants (literally across the street). The bungalow exceeded my expectations and so did the owners! I loved every moment and can't wait to come back!

Perfect Art Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We've been to St. Petersburg a number of times, but this was our first visit to the historic Gulfport. We had an absolute spectacular time at the Beach Breeze Bungalow. It's full of the owner's character, brightly decorated, well equipped and extremely comfortable for our party of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids). Keep in mind, its a bungalow so your living quarters will be smaller, but totally comfy and private. My husband and I enjoyed the private one-bedroom while the kids hunkered down in the front room. Each space is air conditioned with window units that not only kept the place cool, but muffled the sound from outside. We were there during an art festival (with live music outside) and we could still put our youngest to bed at 9:00. What puts this place over the top though, is the hosts, who made sure our every need was met and then some. August and Susanne's touch is on every aspect of your getaway. From the mosaic walkway of the gallery front to the ceramic tiled staircase leading you to the bungalow, this place is loaded with character. Susanne made sure we had dinner reservations at their local hotspot upon arrival making it stress free. After dinner, we took a stroll along the lively street and then dipped our toes in the white sand. In the morning, aside from having coffee available to their guests in the bungalow, August directed us to an organic, locally owned coffee shop within walking distance from the bungalow. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer.

As this was the Mainsail Art Weekend in St. Pete, we did want to note that the bungalow is ideally situated. We were able to jet in and out of St. Pete in no time at all, and it wasn't the hustle and bustle of staying in a St. Pete hotel. We felt immediately relaxed upon returning from Mainsail only to find a night time art festival on the streets of Gulfport. If you like artistic expression, good food, live music (variety of genres), cool breezes, and the laid back attitude you find in coastal communities, then make plans to stay here.
