The house sleeps 8 in 3 queen sized beds and one full size futon. It has 2 bathrooms and an awesome view. In the front yard there is a softball park, complete with teeter-totters, slide, swings and fire pit. The house has hardwood floors and is pet friendly. The small town of Whalan is located just 4 miles east of Lanesboro. You can walk, drive, swim, kayak, bike, or canoe between the two towns. The property is located just one block off the Root River State Bicycle Trail and about 3 blocks from the World Famous Pie Shop.
This 100+ year old house has been moved, from its original location across from the pie shop, and is now overlooking Gator Greens Mini Golf. The house has been gutted to the studs and totally redone. Great location for the cycling enthusiasts of all ages. Whalan is located just 4 miles from Lanesboro, and 8 miles from Peterson. It is some of the flattest parts of the trail, offering great views of the bluffs as well as the river.
Duane and I (Tammy) own and operate this house. Duane is originally from Lanesboro, and is a wonderful tour guide. He offers Horse drawn wagon rides, and jeep tours up and down the bluffs near Whalan. Tammy is originally from Duluth, and has migrated south. She works at the Mayo Clinic in Research PT and runs the Mini Golf course and keeps the guests happy.
Tammy Hughes purchased this house in 2013
This house was 'Free to a good home', but we had to move it 4 blocks and completely remodel it. We put it on a walk out basement, and placed a large 10x20 deck overlooking the mini golf course, bike trail and the river. The inside offers 3 bedrooms all with great views. Lots of wild life to experience, deer, squirrels, birds and the like. Private setting.
This house has a great view, wonderful deck and exceptional city park in your front yard, which includes a baseball diamond, fire pit, swings teeter totters, slides and monkey bars that is one of Whalan's best kept secrets. Located near the end of Bench Street, it offers you a private, wooded adventure. Nestled along side the original homestead of John Whalahann. John deeded the property to the city of Whalan and thus created Whalan. The house is currently being remodeled too. The house is located just one block off the Root River State Bicycle trail, allowing for Cycling enthusiasts great access to the trail.
Since my wife and I have enjoyed the area for years, we wanted to bring our adult children and granddaughter along for their first long overdue trip to the area. The house is great! It is amazing how it was refurbished and there are many pictures of the house relocation and renovation. They kept some of the 100 year old character with the wood floors while having modern plumbing and wiring. It is an amazing result. The setup is similar to a housekeeping cabin in a resort. We brought towels, but all else including linens and a well stocked kitchen is provided. The deck was amazing, especially at night while we stargazed. The small town of Whalan is peaceful but just minutes from Lanesboro. We biked and kayaked in the Root river valley.
We stayed in this lovely little house in February. We wanted to try out our new cross country skis on the Root River Trail. We had very cold temps (-10) but were warm and cozy in this house. We had planned to go with another couple, but they had to cancel. It is set up nicely for two couples, or three, if you don't mind sharing a bathroom. We had wanted to hire the owner to give us a sleigh ride, but the cold weather made this not possible. The owner was very responsive and patiently waited on us and the weather to see if the horse ride could happen. Our cell phone didn't work well at this location, but that was not the fault of the house or the owner. The internet worked great so we used email to communicate with the owner. We had a wonderful time! Cute house!
We stayed here with another couple for a weekend and it was wonderful. The main floor has a well-stocked, full kitchen and the living and dining have a fireplace and smart TV. The view form the upper deck looks down on the town, Root River Trail and miniature golf course. With a master suite downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs there is plenty of room and privacy. There is also a covered patio off the sitting area of the master suite downstairs. The house is situated at the end of the road across from a park so there is great privacy all around.
The house is very clean and comfortable and Tammy is just fantastic. We will definitely stay here again when we return to the area to visit family. Hopefully, we'll be able to stay longer so we can enjoy the house more.
This place is just like home, so warm and cozy. The area has beautiful scenery, the sounds of nature all around. The bike trail was right down the hill and was so exhilarating. Seeing the beautiful bluffs while we kayaked down the river was great. This place is definitely worth staying again and again.
The house is clean, inviting, and fits into the beautiful surroundings perfectly. There is an awesome fire-pit in the park across the street and the view from the balcony and patio is worth the stay alone.
Our family, 5 adults and 2 kids and 2 small dogs stayed two nights at this delightful house. There was plenty of room for all of us. The kitchen was perfect and the living room dining area was just right for the 7 of us. The house was very clean, beds were comfy, and there was so much to do. We had a wonderful park across the street with teeter totters, swings and an old metal slide. No one else came to the park at all! we had a huge bon fire ring at the park, which we used. The history of the house was on display in the living room ,which was very interesting . The house had been moved from it's original spot . Everything was spotless and clean. And no synthetic air fresheners, which is a big deal for people with breathing problems . Loved our vacation weekend! And I forgot to mention that Tammy was very flexible with the check out time .
The house is located one block off the Root River and the Root River State Bicycle, offering over 62 miles of paved trails along the bluffs, and the river.
