About Mahesh

I am originally from Chicago but have lived in the Phoenix - Scottsdale area since college. We enjoy an active lifestyle of travelling, hiking, biking, and snowshoeing the trails behind the cabin as well as snow boarding and cross country skiing at the nearby ski resort. Most of our free time over the last couple of years has been taken up on our renovation of the A- Frame using sustainable building practices. Materials were 0 VOC bio based non toxic coatings that we manufacture and salvaged locally sourced Ponderosa Pine, recycled doors, windows, furniture, and fixtures. All three of us (including the dog) have allergies so we try to keep the cabin as dust and allergen free as possible. We find it rewarding to help bring families and friends together from all over the world to enjoy the wonders of Flagstaff and to share the living experience in our cabin. A portion of your homestay fee helps support Flagstaff Family Food Center, Food Bank and Kitchen.

Mahesh purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Mahesh chose Arizona

The property is a great mix of a peaceful rural area with great vistas but 10 minutes from the excitement of a vibrant mountain town and is one of the highest in the country at 7,000 feet in elevation. The summers are warm but not hot like the central Arizona desert. Be prepared for warm summer days (average high is 78 degrees) and chilly nights (average low is 42 degrees)

What makes this cabin unique

A very quiet secluded country setting with great views of the mountains and in the midst of the world’s largest Ponderosa Pine forest.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This cozy A-frame cabin was a great place for the four of us to relax after driving hundreds of miles each day to the national parks and monuments nearby, during the three days we stayed there. The bathroom is roomy and has everything you need, including lotion. We ate dinner every evening at home, so the kitchen is stocked with everything you need as well. There is a Safeway grocery store just a 5-10 minute drive away, so getting things to eat is easy. Flagstaff downtown is also very close, just a 15-minute drive. The one bedroom was good for two people and two others stayed upstairs in the loft. There are two twin air mattresses available for those who sleep in the loft. It is so dark and quiet outside, sleeping was great. One of the most important things for me is cleanliness, and this cabin is incredibly clean. I was so happy when I walked in and everything smelled fresh and there's no dust! You can enjoy being away from it all in a pristine environment, which is ideal.

Beautiful views, cozy and comfortable living quarters, and a peaceful getaway worth every penny. We enjoyed our stay so much we are already planning the next one. Everything we needed was available to us and the scenery-we couldn't get enough. It was perfect.

Okay place for an overnight stay

  • 3 of 5

This is a good location if you just want a place to sleep with some cooking facilities. I knew it was going to be more rustic, but I was disappointed in the bed. It was really a futon with a full sized mattress. I could have used another moderate-sized pan for cooking. Only sizes were 1 small, 1 medium, and 1 large. The location is fantastic. It was also a little closer to the neighbors than indicated in the description.

overall, the home and property presents well.

  • 2 of 5

upon closer inspection, the interior could've used a little love, and seemed a bit tired, with no truly comfortable places for lounging or cozy sitting for any length of time.

we received a call from the owner during our stay confronting us with our decision to bring our hairless cat; we did indeed disregard the rule of not bringing felines, as we had no one to leave the animal with during our week's stay; we kept the cat in one room, and took good care to maintain cleanliness. we were shocked to learn the owner state that he learned about our cat's presence by allowing someone to enter the premises while we were out, thereby discovering the cat...

what an utter breach of one's privacy, to say the least!

this "policy" was never stated in any rules of the household-- that someone could enter at will in our absence. even at hotels, staff doesn't enter one's room, unless asking first. it made us very unhappy and uncomfortable, to say the least.

Great getaway

  • 5 of 5

It was a very cute and quiet cabin. We had a great time there.

Love the three patios--very relaxing with wonderful views.

The main bed was a bit small. Wish it was a king size with nicer pillows.

Could have another bed in the loft instead of two bulky lounge chairs with loose pads.

The owner was very friendly and replied any message very quickly.

We plan to go back very soon.

The A frame was adorable. Perfect for a rustic get away that backed up to the National Forest.

  • 5 of 5

This A frame is the perfect place to unwind and relax in a rustic setting with lots of nature around. The owners were very kind and easy to work with. The kitchen was well stocked which made it great to enjoy meals on any of the three decks. The mountain views were amazing.
