|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
If you have never had the opportunity to stay sound side at the beach, then you don't know what a great time you are missing out on. After a hard day of fun & sun at the beach, wind down on the back deck and experience the amazing sunsets and stunning views of the Bogue sound.
While summer is in high demand, many miss the most amazing times of the year to come to the Salty Dog! Sept., Oct., and Nov., are filled with warm days, warm water, refreshing evenings, low humidity, lower traffic and great fishing!
Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years are special times to spend at the coast and celebrate with family and friends. Jan and Feb are not to be forgotten months with much needed relaxing and de-stressing after the hectic holiday season and also romantic getaways for Valentine’s Day!
Our beautifully decorated home has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. It will comfortably sleep 6; with 2 queen beds and a kid friendly room which has a bunk bed that has a double bed on bottom, single on top and a trundle bed underneath. All the bedrooms have private decks with scenic views. There is a wonderful picnic area with picnic table located sound front on the sandy beach area and great place to play corn hole.
Staying sound front offers many activities that you wouldn’t be able to experience on the beach front such as; clamming, crabbing, flounder gigging, seining, bird watching, walking in the shallow waters for great distances, etc.
Our family has had many fond memories of clamming and crabbing and having a delicious clam bake with all we caught! The kids have always enjoyed catching crabs and hermit crabs.
By the sound, there is a sandy beach area, a covered gazebo in the water and stairs leading into the sound. There is also a hot/cold outdoor shower area with a separate dressing area. For those of you that would like to try some clamming or crabbing there are rakes and crab pots available for use. We will also have beach chairs, coolers, boogie boards and corn hole boards.

The Salty Dog is named after the original “Salty Dog” my dad. He built this home in the late 70’s after years of scraping and saving! His dream was to retire early and live out the rest of his life at Emerald Isle and that he did. My dad was somewhat of a stubborn man, he weathered many hurricanes by himself and his fearless dogs! He would never evacuate even when it was mandatory! He would always tell me, “A captain must go down with his ship”. He loved this house! It would drive me crazy and worry me to death! But this house would always come out just fine and so would my dad! I grew up coming to Emerald Isle and raised my four children coming here as well. As a family, we have made so many wonderful memories in this house and now they still want to come here on vacation rather than somewhere else. My children have always brought friends with them on vacation and to this day they still talk about all the good times they had at Emerald Isle with us! When my sweet dad left this earth he passed this home to me and I decided it was time for a much needed makeover. So I gave it an overhaul and made the decision to share it with others so they could make memories of their own here. We truly feel this is a special place filled with love, happiness and fun and want others to share in this too. I know my dad is looking down with his scruffy beard and smiling! So Cheers to you Dad!!!
Dana Franklin purchased this house in 2005
Location, location, location!!! Privacy and definately have the best of both worlds. Tranquility of the sound and the closeness of the beach!
We had an awesome time staying here. The house was very well equipped, we didn't even have to bring anything but food and personal items. The private beach was great and the dock with gazebo was perfect for fishing. We hated having to leave the dogs at home with a sitter because they would have loved it but will be renting again next year.
What a great place to relax. Everything was perfect, except for the weather....
Super clean, everything was in great condition. A short walk across the road to the beach. Or just relax on the many decks. Lovely views. Close drive to an amazing new playground that my grandchildren loved. Aquarium is so much fun on rainy days.
You can feel all the love that has been put into this home. Highly recommend!!
My husband, daughter and I enjoyed a lovely time at this beautiful property. The house has a more private feeling than many on the island and the views of the sound are wonderful. Fixing dinners on the fabulous gas grill and having our evening meal on the upper deck overlooking the water was so enjoyable. Dana is easy to work with, we were grateful to have found her Salty Dog!
Loved this house! We just returned home from staying there 3 nights. The house is clean and nicely decorated. The beach is just across the street. My son and husband surf fished and caught 2 huge blue fish. They also set a crab pot and caught several crabs. My teenage daughters were very impressed with the house. They enjoyed the beach and reading on the back deck overlooking the sound. They also were thrilled that there was Amazon Prime TV and Netflix. We got takeout breakfast from Trading Post restaurant each day. We ate dinner at The Crab Shack, Rucker Johns and Amos Mosquitos. We packed a lot into 3 nights but we had a great time. The owner is wonderful to work with. We hope to rent this place again.
This is the perfect sound-side home. Thank you to the owner for sharing this very special property. The home is very well maintained, clean and comfortable. The home is both cozy but also allows for plenty of privacy for everyone with private decks off each bedroom. The views from every window are simply stunning! The owner has provided for every need; charcoal grill, gas grill, beach towels, inside and outside games, etc. We felt very fortunate to have rented this home on an unseasonably warm February weekend and enjoyed the private beach for the perfect birthday oyster roast with friends. I hope everyone takes time to flip through the owners photos of the home to get to know the original owner "Salty Dog" and see some lovely family photos. It's wonderful to see people live their dream! The evolution of the house over time is truly amazing. I've always been told each house has a soul. You can tell a lot of love has gone into and continues to be in this special home. Thanks for sharing it with us Dana!
Four of us came down for a weekend of fishing and hanging out, and Salty Dog fit the bill perfectly. It's a nice, comfortable place with everything we needed. The location is perfect--the dock setup is spectacular, it's an easy one-block walk from the beach, and it's right in the middle of the Emerald Isle/Indian Beach/Atlantic Beach stretch. Feels remote and removed, but it's easy to get to anything you need.
Dana, the owner, is incredibly responsive and gracious. She saw to it that our experience was a good one. (Thank you!)
I definitely recommend Salty Dog.
