Lamoille County, Vermont is the ideal combination of natural beauty, active lifestyle and arts/entertainment. At the Cottage on Butternut Bend, you are in the center of it all.
The cottage is located on 25 secluded acres at the foot of Laraway Mountain, on the bank of the North Branch of the Lamoille River. It is the perfect base from which to explore the surroundings, or simply chill. On a hot summer day, fish, float, swim, or relax in the cool clear waters of the river. In fall, walk our trails in the meadow and hillsides, or go to a nearby trailhead of the Long Trail and hike to the top of Laraway. In winter, use our trails for snowshoe or Nordic skiing. For alpine skiers, Smugglers Notch is 16 miles and Jay Peak is 24 miles away. In any season, antique stores, galleries, farmers markets, restaurants, breweries/winery/distillery are just a short drive away.
The cottage is fully renovated with completely equipped kitchen, cozy living room with wood stove, and bathroom on the 1st floor. The 2nd floor contains the bedroom with comfortable queen bed and private balcony overlooking the surroundings. A large deck with grill, picnic table and chairs complete the amenities.
We started out in Vermont 36 years ago. Our oldest was born here and youngest now lives and teaches nearby. We always planned to return, and in 2012 purchased this wonderful property. What became the “cottage” was an abandoned camp, suitable for habitation only by local wildlife. With vision, hard work and perseverance, the cottage took shape. We hope you enjoy this beautiful area as much as we do.
If sitting by a babbling river, in a place so dark you can are the stars even with a full moon, sounds like heaven, you know why this little jewel is just south of Eden! Just don't tell anyone --I want to come back again soon! No washer/dryer/dishwasher/TV... Just calm & quiet. The drive is grass, however, it's mostly well established. Great location north of Stowe & Smugglers Notch. Great kitchen with most of what you need & fabulous farmers markets abound...
We sat out each evening on the deck and just listened to the water rushing in the brook. So peaceful. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals and since this is something I enjoy doing, I was so pleased kitchen offered anything and everything needed. The cottage was clean and fresh, something I am always looking for. If you need a place to unwind and get away from it all, I highly recommend this cottage. We would definitely stay there again.
Our stay was perfect. We came from Texas on our honeymoon and this was the perfect place to get away from the city! The cabin was very well maintained, the wood stove was great and the property was beautiful and fun to take a short walk around. I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys the outdoors, playing cards or games, and sitting by the fire. We had a great time.
Wonderful place to disconnect from all the stress of everyday life. With no wifi or TV it gives you that time to do the things you might neglect otherwise. The cabin was immaculate and cozy. Beautiful views and lots to do. Unfortunately while we were there the river was quite low so we couldn't do much but that was Mother Nature. Overall, if you're looking for a quiet place to get away from it all or to reconnect with that special someone this is it. I am so glad I found this cabin.
The cottage and location is perfect, you will want for nothing!
We loved the privacy, the peace and quiet, the sound of the river constantly flowing by, the birds and the wonderful view of the mountains and meadow. We fished, swam, read, explored the area and hiked the Long Trail to the top of Mt Laraway; a beautiful hike and spectacular view from the lookout. The weather was perfect and we had a full moon! This was absolutely the most relaxing week of our summer.
Thanks for sharing your special place.
I read the reviews, looked at the pictures and decided to try out the Cottage at Butternut Bend. WOW!!!! This place is splendid. The decorations, the furniture, the floor plan, the fully stocked kitchen, the patio deck, the river and mountain are all incredible. The trails make for a lovely evening walk. One can go sighting seeing in the surrounding areas or even visit Montreal, Canada. We were able to rest and relax while enjoying nature and home cooked meals. I highly recommend the cottage.
We are located on the Belvidere/Waterville town line, with 2000 feet of river frontage. The river is ideal for wading, sunning, floating, fly fishing (license please) and swimming in the natural 'lap pool'. A network of short trails run along the river, through the meadow and onto the hillside. Summer hikes and fall foliage are one step off the cottage deck. In the winter, the trails are ideal for Nordic and snowshoes.
Smuggler's Notch Resort is 16 miles to the south with 2000+ vertical of Alpine skiing. It is consistently ranked as one of the best family ski resorts. Their Arbortek Zipline Canopy Tours are run year-round.
24 miles northeast is Jay Peak which has the highest natural snowfall east of the Rockies. Jay also has the 'Pump House', a state of the art indoor waterpark. Ski/ride in the morning and surf in the afternoon.
Belvidere Center and Waterville each have a small market and are 4 miles away. Jeffersonville has shops, markets, restaurants, a microdistillery, and other services is located 9 miles to the south. A few miles further west is Boydon Valley Winery. Johnson, home to Johnson State College is 10 miles to the southeast with additional shopping and dining. The nearest conventional supermarkets and medical facilities are in Morrisville, another 8 miles east of Johnson. Lost Nation and Rock Art microbreweries are also located in Morrisville.
Burlington VT, one of the 'coolest' small cities in the country is 45 miles away. And Montreal is a 1-1/2 hour drive from the cottage.
