NOW RENTING WEEKLY FOR SUMMER (April - Oct) 2017

Acadia Cove Cabin is located in a secluded wooded setting just steps from the shoreline of Somes Sound, the only fjord on the eastern coast of the United States. Located on the border of Acadia National Park, and right across Somes Sound from famous Sargent's Drive, this two bedroom ocean-front cabin commands beautiful views of the sound, a quiet, well-protected cove, and Norumbega and Acadia Mountains. From your deck, watch sailboats and lobsterman at close range, launch your own kayak from the private cove, and enjoy the stunning combination of woods, water and granite ledges.

This rustic, waterfront cabin consists of a main room, which is a living/kitchen/dining area combined. There are two bedrooms (both with queen beds), and one bathroom with shower. A sleeper sofa and small loft provide extra sleeping (maximum of 5 people allowed). Looking directly over the water, a deck wraps around three sides of the house.

The cabin is accessed via a private gravel road in Hall Quarry, near the villages of Southwest Harbor and Somesville on Mount Desert Island. You will live in a rustic setting, away from intrusions of any kind, yet minutes from the major attractions of Mount Desert Island: Echo Lake, Beech Cliffs, Flying Mountain, Acadia Mountain, Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Cadillac Mountain, and the Carriage Roads and Hiking Trails of Acadia National Park. Bring your canoe or kayak and wake up to the sounds of lapping water, and to the smell of spruce, cedar, pine, oak and maple trees.

Acadia Cove Cabin sits on shore property owned by the same family since the 1880s.

About The Owner

Our family has had this property on Somes Sound since the 1880s, and we are distantly related to Cyrus Hall. Portions of Acadia Cove Cabin date back to about 1905 and housed families that worked in the quarries and on building carriage roads and drives that are part of Acadia National Park. Today, our family returns every summer to Hall Quarry, sharing the main house which is up the hill a bit from ACC.

ACC has a fantastic location right on the shore and with easy access to all of MDI.

We rent ACC as a source to help pay for the costs of maintaining the property and paying local taxes. We are academics and with limited resources so ACC is an important part of keeping the property in our family.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Spellbinding. Magical. Captivating. All words I would use to describe Acadia Cove Cabin. We have been coming to MDI since 1991 and we have never stayed in such a wonderful place. The solitude and beauty each morning while we enjoyed our coffee down on the water was breathtaking.

Acadia Cove Cabin is perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in mid-June in Acadia Cove Cabin and had a wonderful time. The cabin feels very remote and private, yet Southwest Harbor with stores and restaurants is just a 7 minute drive, and pretty much everything else can be reached in 20 minutes: Bass Harbor Light, Bar Harbor, Park Loop Road, Jordan's Pond, Cadillac Mountain, etc. The view from the deck and living room over Somes Sound is absolutely amazing! At low tide there is a bit of shoreline to explore, and in the mornings you can see the lobster boats come and check their traps. The kitchen comes with all the tools and utensils you need, and there were some basic spices and oils, as well as dish washing liquid and dish and paper towels. The bathroom had lots of nice fluffy towels and plenty of bathroom tissue for the week. The internet went out a few times, but usually came right back on, and the signal was very strong. The owner responded quickly to questions and was very easy to deal with - no extra charges for cleaning, linens or the dog. We would definitely visit again!

The Perfect Acadia National Park Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Secluded, relaxing, picture perfect view of Somes Sound, at the base of Acadia Mountain, really convenient to Acadia NP and everything we wanted in a vacation home base. We made the two day drive from Georgia with our packs and bikes and settled in for a week of hiking and biking in the park. We also rented a 2 man kayak in Bar Harbor for 3 days, beached it on the waterfront and explored the whole sound. Harbor seals, loons, mountains and waterfalls were just some of the sights. Wine and cheese on the deck and watching the local lobster boats was a perfect end of the day. Picked delicious mussels right out back. Eating lobster dinner from Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound "To Go" back at the cabin was 5 star. Get the best homemade pies from the church in Sommesville on Wednesdays! Had 4th of July fireworks on the waterfront at Southwest Harbor. This cabin had all that we needed, nothing that we didn't, was clean and like the grounds, well maintained and cared for. The owners could not have been more accommodating and were a delight to deal with. A most memorable vacation! We'll be back.

Wonderful time

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Acadia Cove Cabin was wonderful. It wasn't far from all the hikes and bike rides, vistas and attractions we wanted to see in Acadia National Park, so it was a great home base for us and our golden retriever. The cabin had everything we needed. It was a perfect getaway, and I'd recommend this cabin to anyone looking for waterfront property that is private, quiet, relaxing, and just plain beautiful.
