Why Jane Barton-Greig chose Cobble Hill
Please view the website. There you will see more of the unique beauty of this property and of the Cowichan Valley. "Cowichan" means the Warmlands. We have the highest overall average temperatures in Canada. Come and escape winter and enjoy.
What makes this Estate unique
You can step outside your suite and see deer and eagles. Friendly bunnies will come up to you looking for a carrot. Relax in an outdoor swing, cook marshmallows on an outdoor fire. Enjoy a cup of tea or a glass of wine in your own private luxurious suite. 2 Wineries are within walking distance, and several more an easy drive away. There are many hiking trails and parks close by. There is a close by doggie park and pets are always welcome at Xanadu. There are many gourmet restaurants close by that feature fresh local produce and local specialties. Close by there is trendy shopping, outdoor markets and whale watching. The beautiful, clean Shawnigan Lake is close by for swimming, and the ocean is within walking distance. Fishing is available in Cowichan Bay off the pier, or you can rent a boat. Come and play at Arbutus Ridge Golf course which is just across the road. Arbutus Ridge Indoor tennis dome, dining room, and driving range is also just across the road. The Cowichan Valley is a unique and beautiful part of Canada. Come and enjoy Paradise! The average winter temperature is 6 to 8 degrees, the days are mild and you can be outside every day. Friendly & Clean
The on-line photos are confusing because they include a few different suites all mixed together so it is not possible to determine which suite is being booked by the photos.
A good place for families with children but for a quiet couple with 2 large dogs it wasn't suitable. There are cream coloured wall to wall carpets in the suite (not pet friendly) and the entrance door to our suite was directly into the master bedroom so no privacy if someone is sleeping and others want to enter and exit the suite. Our suite layout was not well designed with no light or windows in the kitchen or livingroom and we could hear the cats running and people walking across the floor above our bed. Also, the Netflix and Crave TV sites were mostly unavailable.
Well equipped suite in beautiful surroundings
Very nice and clean accommodation on a beautiful estate in a very lovely area. No private outdoor space, but friendly and helpful neighbours and owner. I can only recommend a visit
Great hostess, fabulous place, spotless and comfortable furniture and its well stocked. Quiet. The only down for me was that it was a bit far from Victoria, but I enjoyed staying there regardless.
We are glad you enjoyed staying here. Our property is outside Victoria. Come and experience the magic of Vancouver Island. You can easily drive into the city in 40 minutes.
Beautiful property. Quiet and peaceful. Bunnies, deer and birds galore.
The four of us enjoyed relaxing in the a suite. We were able to cook, eat out side on the private patio and enjoy our Victiria wine.
Wonderful Xanadu Stay
We had a very nice stay in one of the Xanadu suites. It was a very spacious, nice suite. The kitchen was well appointed--really the whole suite is! On top of having a very nice little apartment, the grounds are so beautiful and relaxing. Jane is very nice and helpful. The location is so nice we would have been happy to sit outside and enjoy the grounds, sounds of ducks overhead and views, but we were busy visiting relatives. I would highly recommend Xanadu if you are looking for a place that will provide additional amenities beyond a standard hotel along with a nice get-away location.
Overall I would rate this a good place to stay. Rooms were nice and beds were comfortable. Kitchen is functional, but note there is only a hot plate and toaster oven for making simple meals. Host was very nice. Much much better than a hotel room. I can easily recommend the Xanadu Estate for someone looking to stay near Victoria.
We toured Butchart Gardens (definite yes) and the Royal British Museum (pretty good also) in Victoria. Also bring swim suits as there are beaches to the north on the east side of Vancouver Island that can make for good swimming and wading.
Rooms were clean and the property was well maintained. Owner provided good customer service.
Xanadu Estate is in the Cowichan Valley, which means 'the warmlands'. The highest annual temperatures in Canada ensures year round outdoor pleasures. Come and sample our local wineries, abundant local produce and excellent restaurants. Enjoy the quaintness of seaside villages, see eagles soar and enjoy the magnificent beauty of the surrounding countryside, mountains and ocean.
