|Minimum Stay||5 - 6 nights|
Lucca is full of winding narrow streets, cobbled pavements, ancient churches with colorful frescoes, towers and terracotta roof tops, opening up into typical Italian Piazza's. However, it is a living and thriving town, as can be seen if you go for a walk down one of the main streets any day of the week, particularly at the hours of the 'passeggiata'(between 5 and 8).
If you love a real Italian 'espresso', or a cappuccino and pastry for breakfast, then you will be joining the lucchese in one of the numerous coffee shops, on every street in town. Pick up your freshly handmade pasta, and homemade pesto in the local deli, the famous sliced 'prosciutto', and a bottle of wine from the region in our favourite wine shop, and enjoy the delights of real Italian food.
There are an endless number of restaurants to choose from (which we will personally recommend), and all within 5 minutes walk of your front door.
Lucca is almost completely pedestrianised, which makes it a pleasure to walk around, and to cycle. The walls of Lucca are a fantastic amenity, to stroll around, go for a jog, or cycle pleasantly around the 4 km circuit, whilst admiring the fabulous view of the Tuscan hills, and marble topped mountains in the distance.
Our 200 sqm (2000sq ft) apartment is on the second floor of a typical 400 year old 'palazzo'. Part of the apartment is actually built over a 14th century church. We are also lucky enough to have the oldest bread bakery in town right at our front door, so you can just nip downstairs to get your freshly baked bread, and irresistible 'foccacia' straight out of the oven! We are on one of the most prestigious streets in Lucca, named after the famous 'Guinigi' family of Lucca, and sitting on the balcony, you will be delighted to be looking up at the famous tower of Guinigi 'Torre Guinigi', with its olive trees perched on top.
Although the building is 400 years old, and very characteristic , we've have furnished our apartment tastefully with a modern kitchen and furnishings to enjoy comfort and conveniences of a home.(see photos). It is bright and spacious, and designed for family living.
We have all the services a normal home provides, and also a 52 inch flat screen tv, and a computer for your use with internet access.
We came to Lucca for three months and stayed 10 years!
It's a magic place, that captures all the essence of Italy, in one picturesque town. For work reasons we have moved to Madrid for a year, and so we are delighted to share our wonderful property with you!
Lisa purchased this apartment in 2003
It is not easy to find a large apartment in Lucca, as its a very old town, with most of the orginal buildings still as they were. So we were delighted when we found this one! It maintains it's charm with large shuttered windows, exposed beams, and high ceilings whilst having all the modern comforts.
The balcony is unique! It sits over a 600 year old church, and over looks the famous Tower , lined with Olive trees, 'Torre guinigi'.
You will enjoy many Glasses of Italian wine here, or breakfast with freshly baked bread from the bakery below us. It's my favourite spot!
Great space for 4 couples...lots of room. Great kitchen, well equipped. Good central location and quick replies from host to any questions we had. Bakery beneath left us with smells to die for. Washing machine and dishwasher really appreciated. Will pass it to others.
My family and I stayed at this beautiful flat for five nights. We were traveling with our four kids, between the ages of 3.5 years to 11 years, and space is often an issue when we book places. This was certainly NOT the case this time. Our kids were enthralled by the apartment, it's spaciousness, abundance of toys and games, and the kid-friendly nature. There was so much for them to do in the apartment, the never wanted to leave to explore Lucca! From the huge laundry room, to the large bedrooms, to the lovely and functional kitchen, we couldn't ask for more. I highly recommend this property to anyone traveling with kids to Lucca. Not only is it centrally located in Lucca (which we loved!), but it has every amenity and comfort of home. There's no doubt we will book this property again when we return.
This large place was perfect for 6 adults. Everything we required for meals in or out. The information package detailing places of interest and places for meals was very helpful. Lisa was able to help with all questions we had. Attention to detail was evident. A fabulous place to travel out and explore Tuscany. The detailing in the description of the property was so actual.
Thank you for making our Tuscany experience a very enjoyable one.
Kate (my adult daughter) and I stayed for ten days and would happily have stayed far longer. The apartment door swings open, and you're greeted with a wonderful booklined wall. That always seems like such a good start! The apartment is large, airy, colourful and very child-friendly. We didn't have any children with us, but swear we could hear the echoes of the many children who'd been here before, dancing about, trying the swing, whooping at unexpected treasures. We tried the swing ourselves! And nostalgically read our way through a lot of the children's books.
It's very comfortable, lots of space to relax and be, and every last detail of what you might need has been most carefully thought through. We loved the artwork, the little balcony, loved having the bakery two minutes' nipping distance away.
We both love Lucca, and had a thoroughly joyful stay. And want to come back. Soon!
We really enjoyed our stay in Lucca and this apartment made it memorable in lots of ways. It is quirky and unique and so big each day you come across something new and helpful. The main living area is great. Modern and with everything you could need including a large fridge and freezer. The cupboards have lots of things like oil and seasonings that LIsa lets you partake of and if you open the living room window (open plan with the kitchen) you will hear concerts from the hall next door. Their is a huge laundry room so you can easily wash and dry your clothes and 2 decent bathrooms. The balcony is only small but we loved it and the view of the tower was grand. You are 5 or 10 minutes away from most places and we especially enjoyed the short walk to the Anfiteatre and Piazza San Frediano for aperetivo. Undici Undici the bar adjacent to San Martino Duomo was also great for food and drinks and with a fabulous view. All Lisa's recommendations are great - we only went one place she didn't recommend and quite frankly it wasn't as good. The stairs would be a challenge to anyone older or unfit in some way but if you have all your faculties - go for it, you can always stop for a rest on the way up. Oh and there are bikes you can use too. They have pretty much thought of everything. Lisa couldn't have been more helpful and was always available for advise via email which was greatly appreciated. I can also recomment Tau Touring for the taxi transfer from Pisa airport, most efficient.. 70 euros each way.
This apartment is so much larger than I had imagined (for a family of 5 we were more than comfortable). We stayed here for a month- and were grateful for its location. It is about a 10-12 walk to the train, steps to the bakery below (mostly great breads), and down the street a new coffee, wine shop (my kids enjoyed many mornings- walking there on their own). Oh- and really so many more shops and restaurants. Even up to our last day here we were discovering places we hadn't seen before. I really enjoyed having the balcony/outdoor space for
coffee in the morning and wine at night. ( you can't see it in the photo - but she also has a bench and an umbrella out there). Lisa was so so helpful & prompt in her response. She has ideas of places to eat, where to visit, how to get to the larger grocery store outside the wall etc. We enjoyed having use of the bikes (a couple of them are old- but I honestly loved that. It just added to the adventure:) There are a few set of stairs to the apartment which made me appreciate how Lisa did life with babies, groceries, etc.... :) There is another apt. above (and their son was on crutches) so clearly doable for the rest of us.
My daughter and son loved the swing, craft room, and bunkbeds. I also enjoyed the having the music school just across the street/ outside the living room window. The music just added to the charm of the apt. and Lucca.
Lucca is idealy situated to enjoy all the benifits of Tuscany. A perfectly intact medieval own, with all the culinary and artistic delights on your doorstep.
With the only a few minutes drive into stunning Tuscan scenery, olive groves, cypress lined avenues and vineyards.
Less the 30 minutes and you can enjoy relaxing days on the beach, and within the same time stroll amongst the beautiful hills.
Its only 20 minutes to Pisa, an hour to florence, and many other towns, all reacable by train or bus.
