Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Downtown - Rosemont Cottages

Experience The Joy Of Spending Time in a Completely Updated Country Cottage

A full restored urban Farmhouse built in 1880 offering guests a casual, comfortable lodging experience in the center of downtown Little Rock. Gardener's Cottage, with its upstairs gated balcony-porch, is perfect for one or two guests and is priced at $120 per night for midweek and $145 per night on weekends and holidays. May Cottage is larger with two bedrooms and a full kitchen; it accommodates up to four guests and is priced at $175 midweek and $195 on weekends and holiday. May's Cottage is also offered as a one bedroom at $135-$175. The cottages overlook a secluded garden and the property offers small pleasures like hardwood floors, casement windows, and screen doors ... testaments to a gentler time. All has been updated to include oversized Jacuzzi tub, Spa robes, queen pillow-top mattresses, cable TV and WiFi, Central Air and Heat, of course; plus the old-fashion extras of ceiling fans and a radiant heat or gas log stove. A private entrance is yours alone, coming through the garden, you park just steps away from your front door. In addition, we fill your cottage with many small amenities to please and pamper you.

About Susan Maddox

I am a former Dallas advertising executive who fled the big city and returned home to a smaller, more charming city where my parents, sisters, and extended family still lived. I wanted to be part of the reclamation of the historic neighborhoods where I was born and lived as a child.

Susan Maddox purchased this cottage in 1992

Why Susan Maddox chose Arkansas

I was enchanted by the simplicity of this 1880 farmhouse sitting on large wooded lot in the center of historic Downtown Little Rock. Its big, and rambling and welcoming with very few pretentions and a great deal of comfort.

What makes this cottage unique

The house and cottages occupy a large lot and share the entire city block with only one other house ... lots of green space, quite and seclusion. And yet, from my kitchen window and front porch I can watch the cars go by on Broadway, the main internal street in Downtown Little Rock. The best of both worlds!

Guestbook comments from the owner

This has been a lovely visit to Little Rock. May's Cottage is so thoughtfully designed and the breakfasts were excellent. Thank you for all you do for your guests.

The pictures do not do the Hayward Cottage justice! The cottage is cozy, comfortable, warm and inviting. The pictures online were beautiful but the cottage itself is amazing. It was so much more than we were expecting. I traveled alone with my 14 year old daughter and she cant wait to come back. I would recommend Rosehaven Cottages to anyone along with the Rosemont B & B. Susan is such a delight!

A wonderful family getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful three night stay at Barkley Cottage. We met my parents here for my mother's 75th birthday. It is such a nice home away from home. We loved the beautiful hardwood floors, antique furniture, and very comfortable beds. It is very close to good restaurants plus we could sleep in, wake up and enjoy coffee while cooking a nice breakfast in the kitchen. We had a lovely time. My mother really enjoyed herself. Thank you again for such a great place to stay!

Cute and dog friendly but a few less than awesome details

  • 3 of 5

I love staying at bed and breakfasts so I really wanted to like this place. The room is very nice, with cute furniture and high quality linens. My two big problems though:

1. The bathroom...is very outdated. No shower at all, and the nozzle for "showering" kept popping off and exploding water all over the bathroom. The sink is one of those one of those awful deals where you either got only cold water or very hot water.

2. Breakfast...we had been informed they would leave breakfast between 9 and 9:30. When breakfast hadn't arrived by 9:20 we decided to run to the farmer's market and eat when we returned. Got back less than half an hour later...no breakfast. The owner told me very abruptly that it had been "thrown away."

To be fair the breakfast we did receive on Sunday was very tasty, but the snotty response was not really appreciated.

So to sum up, good location and probably fine for most people as long as you don't want a hot shower!

We appreciated being able to bring the dog

Owner's Response: The Gardener's Cottage, like the main house, dates to 1880 and has been well and historically restored. There is an oversized double Jacuzzi built into the room under a window with a tree-top view ... no physical possibility for a full shower. The tub has a lovely, brass hand-held shower which is included in the cottage description and photo. Maintenance immediately checked the problem reported in the review but was unable to identify any faulty performance. It wasn't reported during the 3-day visit so we were unable to determine the guest's issue. Our faucets are Restoration Hardware reproductions from the period which seemed like a nice touch. A guest runs both hot and cold water into the stoppered sink to get the temperature they like ... I suppose this touch isn't for everyone! We have five cottages and all cottage guests receive a follow-up email with their formal confirmation advising that a breakfast basket will be delivered to their door each morning between 9:00-9:30. The same email invites guests to contact us if they have any questions or need to give us personal information. Breakfast in the B&B starts at 9:00 and on this particular morning we started a bit early because we had a group in town for a family reunion and they had to be somewhere early. Breakfast baskets were delivered promptly around 9:00. If a basket is returned, we assume the guest didn't want breakfast. We do keep the baskets for 20-30 minutes in case the guest is out taking a walk. Breakfast food does not "hold" for long and by 10:00 the breakfast was ruined and thrown out. On this particular morning, I knew breakfast was early so I made a 10:00 AM meeting with a contractor doing work on some of our cottages. The guest wanted me to prepare a fresh breakfast for her, I told her about my appointment, she demanded a refund for the breakfast that was thrown out, and I made the refund and apologized for her disappointment. We have a lot of guests and are accustomed to guest services and have no reason to be rude or unsympathetic; sometimes we just cannot meet every expectation.

I Can't Say Enough Positive Things About the Gardener's Cottage & Rosemont Inn

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough positive things about staying at Susan's beautiful home, Rosemont Inn and cottages. The rooms are spotless, beautifully decorated, and the attention to detail makes the experience very special - from the high quality linens and bedding to the warm cozy robes, from the delicious breakfast to the coffee and treats available, the attention to detail makes staying at Rosemont a very special experience. I had such a wonderful time when I stayed in November, I returned again to stay in the Gardener's cottage and extended my stay to enjoy an extra day there. It is such a nurturing and beautiful place. I know I will be back next time I'm in Little Rock. An added plus is the location. It's in a neighborhood filled with lovely older homes and a couple of blocks away are great restaurants- too many to mention, quirky interesting shops (I bought all of my gifts at The Green Corner Store and had the best coffee at Mug's Cafe). All in all a truly memorable experience.
