I am a former Dallas advertising executive who fled the big city and returned home to a smaller, more charming city where my parents, sisters, and extended family still lived. I wanted to be part of the reclamation of the historic neighborhoods where I was born and lived as a child.
Susan Maddox purchased this cottage in 2006
I was enchanted by the charm of this 1890 duplex built by two sisters sitting on large wooded lot in the center of historic Downtown Little Rock. The original cottage, with its natural sound barriers and private entrances was the perfect location for Little Rock's first guest cottage cabins.
The cottage is on a quiet street with sidewalks and ancient trees but only four blocks from the vibrant SoMa ... South Main District ... with restaurants, bars, shops, even a museum and sculpture garden.
This has been a lovely visit to Little Rock. May's Cottage is so thoughtfully designed and the breakfasts were excellent. Thank you for all you do for your guests.
The pictures do not do the Hayward Cottage justice! The cottage is cozy, comfortable, warm and inviting. The pictures online were beautiful but the cottage itself is amazing. It was so much more than we were expecting. I traveled alone with my 14 year old daughter and she cant wait to come back. I would recommend Rosehaven Cottages to anyone along with the Rosemont B & B. Susan is such a delight!
We had a wonderful three night stay at Barkley Cottage. We met my parents here for my mother's 75th birthday. It is such a nice home away from home. We loved the beautiful hardwood floors, antique furniture, and very comfortable beds. It is very close to good restaurants plus we could sleep in, wake up and enjoy coffee while cooking a nice breakfast in the kitchen. We had a lovely time. My mother really enjoyed herself. Thank you again for such a great place to stay!
I love staying at bed and breakfasts so I really wanted to like this place. The room is very nice, with cute furniture and high quality linens. My two big problems though:
1. The bathroom...is very outdated. No shower at all, and the nozzle for "showering" kept popping off and exploding water all over the bathroom. The sink is one of those one of those awful deals where you either got only cold water or very hot water.
2. Breakfast...we had been informed they would leave breakfast between 9 and 9:30. When breakfast hadn't arrived by 9:20 we decided to run to the farmer's market and eat when we returned. Got back less than half an hour later...no breakfast. The owner told me very abruptly that it had been "thrown away."
To be fair the breakfast we did receive on Sunday was very tasty, but the snotty response was not really appreciated.
So to sum up, good location and probably fine for most people as long as you don't want a hot shower!
We appreciated being able to bring the dog
I can't say enough positive things about staying at Susan's beautiful home, Rosemont Inn and cottages. The rooms are spotless, beautifully decorated, and the attention to detail makes the experience very special - from the high quality linens and bedding to the warm cozy robes, from the delicious breakfast to the coffee and treats available, the attention to detail makes staying at Rosemont a very special experience. I had such a wonderful time when I stayed in November, I returned again to stay in the Gardener's cottage and extended my stay to enjoy an extra day there. It is such a nurturing and beautiful place. I know I will be back next time I'm in Little Rock. An added plus is the location. It's in a neighborhood filled with lovely older homes and a couple of blocks away are great restaurants- too many to mention, quirky interesting shops (I bought all of my gifts at The Green Corner Store and had the best coffee at Mug's Cafe). All in all a truly memorable experience.
In the heart of Historic Downtown Little Rock, 4 blocks off of I-630, walking distance from the South Main District, 5 minutes by car from the River Market and Clinton Presidential Library, Central High Museum, Verizon Concert Hall, Business and Medical Districts
