Welcome to Cook Hale, your tranquil escape to Ha'ena on the north shore of Kauai. Ha'ena is home to some of the best beaches and most beautiful scenery in the world. Cook Hale is conveniently located near tunnels and across the street from a footpath that leads 200 meters to a beautiful sandy beach. Come back from the beach and relax on the huge lanai facing the preserve while listening to the birds singing!
New to the rental market, Cook Hale has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, dining, and living room all on the second level. The open floor plan, opening onto the lanai, all facing the wooded preserve and mountains, takes full advantage of the property's setting. This private retreat is tucked away on a 12,000+ sf lot, and has covered parking for two cars underneath. There is also laundry, storage, and barbeque on the ground level.
Tunnels beach is 1/2 mile away. Tunnels is known to have world class snorkeling when it's calm, and world class surfing when it's not! Mediterranean Gourmet is even closer with great food and entertainment. The Napali coast is less than two miles away with incredible hiking and waterfalls. Several dining, shopping, and entertainment options are also available in historic Hanalei, just about 6 miles away.
Comfortable house, serene setting, walk to beach, close to creature comforts and outdoor adventures alike; this house is sure to please!

Emergency on island contact:
Ha'ena is truly a tropical paradise, with everything you need within a short walk or drive. I love having the feeling of seclusion the home has, facing the preserve, but not having to walk down Kuhio Hwy to get to the beach, because of the proximity to the path.
We especially loved the comfort of and view from the deck. We also really appreciated all of the amenities (from boogie boards to books to environmentally friendly soaps).
Extremely chill and convenient place to stay. Great responsiveness and service and Killer spot. Great stay indeed
We stayed for a week at the beginning of February and we loved our stay! It's on such a beautiful part of the island. And being away from the main towns and resorts it's a much more relaxed feel. That being said it's walking distance to amazing beaches and a 15 minute drive to the most incredible hikes on the island. There was 6 of us staying and never did it feel crowded or like there wasn't enough space.
Everything needed was provided by the owner, there was nothing more we could have asked for. Even things for the days activities. Snorkel gear, coolers, even a beach umbrella.
The only draw back was that the drive can be fairly lengthy to different parts of the island. Yet the roads are super fun to drive and the scenery beautiful so this wasn't a big detractor.
If you are thinking of staying here you should. You will not regret it. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
This house was a great experience for me and my family. I am the grandma and my son, his wife and two little ones all stayed together in the house. Four other family members were within walking distance. The nine of us gathered every evening for a big family dinner in the kitchen. It is a kind of great-room where the kitchen, the dining area and the living room are all one. The little boys had twin beds in their own bedroom where 'no grown-ups were allowed.'
The house is quiet, set back from the road, and has everything you need to create meals. The beach bikes were enjoyed and we had sufficient towels and beach towels. The children enjoyed our responsibility to feed Shadow the outdoor cat. We would stay here again.
We really loved Cook Hale. The open concept and huge lanai were perfect for our group of four and we could have easily added another couple. We cooked a lot and the kitchen had pretty much everything we needed. For beaches, we loved being within walking distance to Tunnels, by far our favourite beach on the island. Everything with the owner went smoothly. Highly recommend staying here!
My husband and I, our two daughters and their boyfriends celebrated family Thanksgiving on Kauai, and spent eight nights at Cook Hale. In short, it was wonderful. The house is very well provisioned, with everything we needed for preparing family-style meals. We bought groceries in Hanalei and at the farmers' markets, and did almost all of our own meals at the house. In addition to a complete array of kitchen appliances, there is a good gas grill for grilling your fresh fish or steaks.
The bedroom that has the queen bed has its own bathroom, and is farthest away from the living room. My husband and I took that room, allowing us to go to bed earlier than "the kids" and not be bothered by conversation or TV in the living room.
The huge covered lanai faces the preserve, and it gives a super place to hang-out outside, even when the weather is rainy. The surf was huge when we were there, so we did not do much swimming, but we did see Laird Hamilton surfing at Haena Beach. He was the only one in the water, and it was exciting to watch.
If you want the Hawaii-resort experience, then Cook Hale might not be for you. But if you want the low-key feel of "old Hawaii", and to feel more like a local than a tourist, then Cook Hale is perfect. As others have said, the walk to the beach is easy, and from there, the beach-walks are endless. You are only two miles from the beginning of the Kalalau Trail, which climbs and twists along the Napali Coast - one of the world's greatest hiking trails.
The gear at Cook Hale is great. Beach chairs, umbrella, several sets of snorkel gear, a boogie board and bicycles are among the amenities provided. There are plenty of beach towels, and the washer and dryer work great. Organic detergent is provided.
The bathrooms are well stocked with organic herbal bath products.
There are books, games, and a fiendish fish puzzle. One thing that would have been really cool would be to have had a guest book, or log book for the house. I would have bought one and started it, but by the time I thought of it, it was too late.
The pictures on the website give a good representation of the house. The description is accurate, and the owner responded promptly to inquiries. The instructions given for arrival were accurate and easy.
We were all very impressed by how clean this house is. It was fresh, clean, and smelled good.
All six of us loved Cook Hale, and we have already been recommending it to friends.
Kalalau Trail, Napali Coast, wet and dry caves, and botanical gardens are less than 2 miles away. The beach is about 600 ft. down a foot path that starts across the street. Less than half a mile from Tunnel's in one direction or Mediterranean Gourmet in the other direction. Conveniently located near Hanalei bay with many shopping and dining options, including farmers market, shaved ice etc.
