Turtle's Nest is one of the best spots on Little Gasparilla Island for watching the sunset! This single level home rests at the edge of the sand dunes and has a west-facing screened deck that is a perfect gathering place for watching sunsets. Accommodations include three bedrooms and two baths on the main floor and an outdoor shower below. The master has a queen bed & private bathroom, while the guest room queen and the bunk room (with two sets of bunk beds) share a separate full bath. The home has recently been outfitted with all new appliances and has WiFi and satellite TV. We also offer services of a meet and greet and house cleaning at no additional fee. Our caretaker Paul can be contracted for additional a la carte concierge services should need arise during your stay that include options such as transportaton, grocery shopping, fishing outings and use of golf carts!
Turtle's Nest is perfect for families or couples to enjoy. Includes a fully-equipped kitchen, dining and living areas, screened deck, Satellite TV, WIFI, a VCR player, movie library, washer/dryer, new AC unit and all new stainless steel kitchen appliances.
As part of the barrier island chain that includes Sanibel and Captiva Islands, Little Gasparilla offers the peace and quiet that those busy islands used to have. Accessible only by water taxi, Little Gasparilla has fewer tourists, no paved roads, no cars, no high-rises and no crowds on the beach. You vacation with dolphins, ospreys and sea turtles instead!
There’s great fishing from the beach or the dock, and both children & adults will enjoy shelling, swimming, snorkeling or simply enjoying the sun. With an island priority of protecting the sea turtles from light pollution, you’ll see more stars than you might think possible. And while there’s daily water-taxi service between the island and the mainland, we bet you’ll want to stay put once you’ve arrived.
Golf carts can be rented, but most prefer walking the sandy paths that run the length of the island. There’s an excellent fresh-fish market (Miss Cindy's) just across Placida Bay, and many restaurants and gift shops in the nearby towns of Boca Grande and Placida –– a few reachable by water-taxi.
A vacation on Little Gasparilla will be one of your best holidays ever –– All you need are groceries & flip flops and you too will be ready to rest and be thankful!
I am a 'Florida Girl' by birth and heart. You can always find me in the sunshine. I was born and raised in Bartow, Florida. I have lived in Georgia and Western North Carolina but I have always considered Florida my home.
Shawna Gilmore purchased this house in 1984
LGI reminds me of the beach get-a-way weekends I used to enjoy as a child. After my own children were grown I sought out a little sunny piece of Florida to call my own. I have spent over seventeen years living on island time at LGI. I have loved both the solitude and the close-knit community of friends that are my neighbors. I love to gather people together and my dream of being able to share the natural beauty of Florida with my children and grandchildren became a reality with their many fun-in-the-sun visits. With the ocean view from the front porch, our deck became the most popular place for our island friends to meet up to watch the sunset. Turtle's Nest has been a perfect place to gather with friends and family and to rest and be thankful.
Turtle's Nest is ocean front and sits directly on an access path just footsteps away from the Gulf Shore. The screened-in west-facing porch is a real bonus and is especially nice for gathering to watch the sunset. A favorite feature is the hammock. There are four sleep pads if kids or adults would like to camp out on the screened-in deck. There is a small outdoor grill available as well as a badminton set, and of course beach chairs and an large shade umbrella for guests to use.
I honestly can not say enough good things about the Turtle's Nest. The property was just as described in the listing and more. Paul went above and beyond to ensure that we had everything that we needed. We opted to have Paul do our shopping before we arrived on the island, which I highly recommend and would definitely do again. The island itself is the definition of rest and relaxation. We kicked off our shoes the moment we arrived and did not put them back on until it was time to leave to come home! Fishing is great either from the dock or beach. One day while fishing from the dock, a manatee emerged directly in front of us. It was literally right next to the dock to where we could bend down and touch it. The kids loved kayaking, and dolphins and sea turtles swam within 10 feet of them! The whole trip was amazing! We are already talking about wanting to return!
What an incredible find!!!
I was a little apprehensive about staying at an island with no cars and only boat access.
It was PERFECT.
First of all the support from Paul, who upkeeps the house, and is your #1 problem solver. He is an incredible asset to this property. He was extremely polite and professional and HELPFUL!!! It's a short ride to the docks and then a short walk/golf cart ride to the house.
The house: Very well maintained, updated inside with everything you'll need, full kitchen, new appliances, full washer and dryer and two fridges + a freezer downstairs also - the COLDEST A/C EVER and the HOTTEST Hot water EVER!!!
We packed groceries for the week, but you'll probably need a lift onto shore for a few resupplies and maybe a dinner out.
If you forgot all of your leisure equipment, this house comes fully loaded with beach chairs, umbrellas, inner tubes, noodles, boogie boards, etc. Oh, also a BBQ, Charcoal & Lighter fluid (we ended up buying charcoal and leaving a bag and 1/2 there...kind of a pay it forward.)
The beach: is exquisite and of course, those sunsets are more beautiful every night. Warm water, soft sand, and clear. You can and will spend hours there floating and tanning.
At the end of it, Paul will be there to help get you back to the marina and is just as courteous and professional as he was the day you arrived. He really made the difference and helped explain the island and things to do. I recommend not only LGI, but staying at this property, because Paul makes the difference.
You won't be disappointed and you'll leave refreshed, relaxed, and renewed.
I give it 3 thumbs up, 6 our of 5 stars, and 11 out of 10.
I'm very happy we were able to find this unspoiled and beautiful island.
I would not only recommend it, I plan on returning again!!!
This is our 2nd time staying here and we love it! We've been coming to LGI for over ten years and always look forward to coming back!

This vacation week was an adults only sibling reunion. My wife and I, joined my sister and her Beau, along with my brother, his wife and little dog Kitty. The 3 bedroom/2 bath ocean view property suited our needs very well. The rustic interior was The rental has Directv and Sat Wi-Fi. You might want to bring some DVD's to watch.
The 120 steps to the ocean was accurate. If you are into shelling, you will love this place. It rivals it's sister island @ Sanibel for quantity and selection of shells. I good storm passed through our area resulting in an abundance of treasures. My back can attest for the large box of shells my Mrs. packed up for our trip home. I must admit I never saw three adult women become so engrossed with shell collecting.
The property was supplied with most essentials like toilet paper, beach towels, general bath towels, dish clothes, paper towels, dish soap, laundry detergent, and nice washer and dryer.
Nice Nautica beach chairs (6 new ), plus an assortment of older chairs were stored in the bottom storage area. There is also an assortment of beach toys, umbrellas, and fishing gear. I brought my own and caught several Whiting, Sand Perch, and Saltwater Catfish.
Remember, there are no eateries on the island other than your own. Make sure you have enough to last all week. There is an old charcoal grill I used to cook burger's on. I wished that it was a modern gas grill. The appliances in the home were fairly new. You should expect to see a brand spanking new dishwasher on your trip.
We had a great adventure on LGI and would consider staying again with our grandchildren. Two thumbs up!
Had a great weeks stay, and my 3 adult children said they would do it again. The island feels very removed from the hassles and hustles of other ocean-side locations. We even got to swim with the dolphins one day, or they swam around us for a little while. The beaches are great for walking and not crowded. The house was very comfortable and felt very homey. Paul the caretaker was very friendly and accommodative. I highly recommended this place if you want to slow down and relax.
I grew up in Florida and staying at the Turtle’s Nest was almost like stepping back into old Florida- but with more dolphins. I never saw manatees on the beach before. We loved the house – it’s a very comfortable home. We stayed for 2 weeks and every day was different. We enjoyed great gulf swimming in clear water almost every day. We had a boat for four of those days and LGI is even better, if you have a boat, especially for fishing and sightseeing. Consider renting one for a couple of days – or work out a few cruises with Paul, the caretaker. We found sand dollars, live warrior conchs, and periwinkles. We enjoyed seeing all of the birds… especially the pelicans. Best of all was the million dollar view of the sunset and the moon rising and setting from the screened porch where we enjoyed all of our meals. One of our highlights was when Susan (the turtle lady) let us help release a live turtle! Don’t forget to try a sea grape if you are there at the right time! This is a great place to de-stress! The sound of the waves and the birds are your background noise!
The house was very comfortable with everything provided. Toilet paper & paper towels are already there. The Charlotte County water tastes fine – we didn’t need to bring any bottled water. There’s plenty of hot water and the water pressure is good. The new washer and dryer mean that there are plenty of towels for all.
Here are a couple of tips that will be really helpful for your trip. We’ll follow them when we go back. Paul, the caretaker, can help you with anything that you need. When we go back, we will send Paul our shopping list ahead of time. He can have your groceries unpacked and in the house before you arrive. We will also have Paul meet us at the dock to take us directly to the house, rather than using the Pirate taxi. He can customize your pick-up time and help you with your luggage. He is also kind and nice. Pack Light! We could have gotten by with a bathing suit or two and a few shirts and shorts shoved in a couple of backpacks. There are beach chairs & noodles & beach umbrellas under the house. Everything that you need is already at the house, although we were glad that we brought our snorkel equipment.
We are already planning another trip to the Turtle’s Nest. It was a memorable experience that we wouldn't trade for anything.
Parking at Eldred's Marina is available for 6$ per day and accepts cash only. The water taxi 'Pirate Taxi' can be booked for transport to and from the island. If you have your own boat, we have a dock slot available on the Marina side of LGI. It is important to bring all food and necessary items as there is no store on Little Gasparilla Island. It is important to bring a good supply of drinking water. There is a golf cart rental service on the island and advance reservations are suggested. Our home is located at about the mid point of the island and borders the Gulf side shore.
