Overview

About the property

1,700 Sq Ft, 2 Bedroom, 1 Bath, 3 Story Cabin

A very unique home built by my father in the 70's. On a peninsula, we are right on the beach with a island just off shore adding a bit of privacy. In the high water season (spring and summer) there's a nice swimming hole and in low water season you will have to walk out a bit as the water recedes and becomes murky in front of the house. We have a spacious yard with plenty of room for RV's and campers or in the winter, snowmobiles and trailers. There is a long interior drive that allows you to pull a boat or trailer through the property without backing up to exit on Gooseneck ct. There is possibility for port a potty rentals in the summer if there were extra people wanting to camp or bring trailers (there are a couple of good parking places under the trees away from the house). There is a stove heated sauna not many steps from the front door that is rather relaxing after the days activities.

The house is very open being the only rooms in the house to have a door are the bathroom and the wood/storage room.

YOU MUST know how to light and keep a fire in the winter months as our electric heating system is way outdated and does very poorly. There are two wood stoves that will keep the cabin plenty warm.

The first floor contains the Kitchen/dinning area that is equipped with a double sink, electric oven/stove, toaster oven, blender, juicer, fridge/freezer, a rock top island/bar and a large dinning table (seats 9) and benches. Sitting areas on the first floor include the sun/solar room with many windows and a futon , long coffee table and few chairs. The other seating area is where the TV and wood stove are located.

At the top of the first set of stairs you will find the bathroom (with an old cast iron tub and a funky shower rigged up that works well enough but should be bigger. There is a book case with some health books, lots of kids books, some hippy books and crayons. There is a futon and an old drafting table with some stools to have deep conversations around or color some pictures. There is a dresser and another bookcase with a growing selection of books before you enter the laundry area. In the bedroom you will find a full size bed and desk with a great lake view out the windows lining the room.

Up the narrow stair case to the third floor is the more private bedroom with a queen and single bed and once again a lake view! Above that is a secret tower which must remain locked...

On the maps it may look like the house is a block from the lake but that is meant to represent the size of the property,. The front lawn ends at the beach area. In the summer months you can enter the property from either Gooseneck Ct. or Scott Ln. whereas mentioned before, there is a round drive connecting those two roads.

Check in is 3:pm

Check out is 11:am if other guests are arriving on that day.

(If no booking conflict exists you may have a late check out. You will need to call and confirm on the day of departure that no one else is scheduled to arrive that afternoon to have a late check out. )

Why Kathy Corbin chose Donnelly

Jon: 'It's a hand me down property. My grandfather got it from the government, probably stoled from the Indians. The cove is more protected from the wind than the lake proper and it seemed like a good place to build a cabin, grow a garden and keep a goat.'

What makes this cabin unique

The old logs, the bones of the structure seem to strike people singularly. The candlelit sauna in the hillside can be a bit of a catch for some, especially in the chilly evening. A campfire out the front door is a tradition here, like an ancestral home. The privacy offered by the trees and island creates a lot of serenity on what can be a busy lakefront. It is not to close to town and not to far...

Oh yea, we have vegan cook books!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Rhea!

Just wanted to let you know how much we absolutely cherished our time at your cabin! Our two boys ages 7 and 11 had had a rough week at school and with each other so we weren't sure if we were going to come up for the weekend due to their behavior. Within 20 minutes of being there both boys were inspired to sit at the large desk upstairs and write short stories about your "Magical Mansion". They enjoyed each other and I even heard an "I love you Tyler" without being prodded to say so!!

The uniqueness of the home was so appreciated by the entire family. We wanted to get away from home and work and this cabin made us feel like we went to an entirely different era. It was great that the fires were burning when we arrived around 8pm Friday! So inviting and cozy. We enjoyed the sauna...talk about a unique experience! Kids thought they were in a 5 star spa with the candles and steam. The cabin was extremely neat and tidy which I especially appreciated. By the way, I started a load of sheets in the washer before we left:)

Please feel free to post this on your review page and we can't wait to come back during the summer for an entirely different experience!

Thanks again for an amazing get away,Kristina, Adam, Andrew and Tyler

Unique and relaxing cabin

  • 5 of 5

This is a very interesting house with incredible architecture that needs to be seen to be appreciated. It is situated on a lake peninsula with a small beach area in a small town south of McCall. It is very peaceful and inviting, and a nice place to get away from it all. I do woodworking as a hobby, so I was amazed at how the home was constructed, and would have loved to see a scrapbook or history of how it was built. To be fair, the few faults I found staying here were the lack of comfortable seating (mostly old futon-type furniture and non-reclining chairs), the lack of view of the lake from the house due to overgrowth of trees and bushes, lack of opening windows (3 in the house, luckily 2 are in the main bedroom), and harsh kitchen lighting. With a little TLC this place could be even more awesome. I would have loved to get up into the 4th floor turret but it was boarded off. I am most appreciative of the owners sharing this place with travelers!

Wonderful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family of five (three small children) all had a wonderful time at this lovely cabin! The views through the gorgeous windows, the forest like feel, the proximity to the lake, and the hospitality of the owner were all top notch! We would definitely visit again some day!

Surreal, whimsical and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

This was one of the most enjoyable, relaxing and fun filled vacations to date! This place was everything I could have wanted and more, it was clean, comfortable, well stocked (kitchen, bath and linens), simple, unique, quiet and fun! The cottage itself is so unique, who ever built it did so with their heart, I mean it’s stunning, there is no where else like this place! It’s location is great, it’s right on Lake Cascade, which is huge, we really enjoyed paddle boarding here and fishing! And it’s right down the road (maybe 20 minutes) from Payette Lake, which is gorgeous too!!!!! The locals are so nice and it’s just a wonderful place to get away to slow down! We can’t wait to return, our family really bonded here!

Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

This was a terrific place! It has such a magical feeling and was perfect for our family vacation. A great price for such a beautiful and unique home with a small private beach right by the lake. We were a little nervous to move forward with our rental due to the nearby wildfires, but the owners were extremely understanding and allowed us to cancel at any point with a full refund if it got too smoky for us and the kids. We so appreciated that gesture and knew right then that the owners cared that we had a enjoyable vacation and were not just trying to get this place booked. We are so happy we kept our reservation as there was plenty to do inside the home when it did become too smoky. The front living room made it seem like we were outside with its large windows, it was our favorite spot to play board games and relax. We can't wait to come back =)
