Our cabin is a two bedroom, one bath arrangement; the living room, dining and kitchen area along with one bedroom, laundry and bathroom are located on the first floor. On the second floor is a large bedroom with twin beds and a sofa bed. Both bedrooms and living room have 36' TV's with Direct TV satellite. Wireless is also available, along with central HVAC, emergency lighting and generator.
Cabin is decorated very nicely with many antiques, original art, pottery, and accessories, white pine floors.
Enjoy cool summer evenings on the covered front porch with dining table/chairs, and comfortable seating. In summer, you will be entertained by the visitors to two humming bird feeders - the small birds often zooming from one end to the other through the porch. Cook dinner on the gas grill on detached deck surrounded by woods and seasonal gardens. The open covered car shelter with motion detected lighting is only steps away from the entrance. Ceiling fans in bedrooms, living room, porch.
Kitchen is fully equipped with refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, smooth top stove and oven, garbage disposal, microwave, toaster oven, two coffee pots, and typical pots/pans/utensils. English china and stainless steel flatware for eight. Also provided are typical spices, cocktail and dinner napkins, paper towels, new dish cloths/towels, etc.
Kayak and paddle boat are available to guests; lake has several docks and is about a 5 minute walk from house. An electric golf cart is also included in the rental; available for use by responsible adults or younger guests, with adult supervision.
A very quiet area, about half the homes are permanent residences. Our cabin was constructed in 2009, and has been offered for rent since 2014. All linens and towels are provided.
Cabin sleeps four very comfortably but can accommodate up to five; we prefer no more than 5 people. There is a sleeper sofa in upstairs BR in addition to the twin beds, a queen size bed in downstairs BR and a portable cot is available.
We live in Greenville, SC and in 2009 had this cabin custom built. We have put a lot of time and energy into the property, and also own the adjoining lot in the back for privacy. We love the proximity to the town of Saluda with the wonderful restaurants, friendly shop keepers, festivals, and community spirit. Lake Hosea is a small, quiet lake community about 2.5 miles outside town.
Although we are both very much in the "retirement age", my husband continues to stay in business and I enjoy several hobbies including furniture painting, sewing, gardening, and traveling.
The cabin is very much our "home away from home" and we welcome guests who respect the property, our neighbors, and our personal property.
Gail G. Benke and Tom H. Benke purchased this cabin in 2009
In addition to proximity to Saluda and amenities of the lake, we like to visit the surrounding communities of Columbus, Tryon, Hendersonville, and Asheville. Many mountain attractions and conveniences are within a short distance. We love being close to good hiking trails, the Green River, The Gorge Zip Line, and ice cream at Somewhere in Time in downtown Saluda.
Saluda has recently been named among the five leading small towns to visit in the Carolinas. Developed as a summer retreat for SC residents from the heat of the lower part of the state, the residential population more than doubles in the summer. Visitors come here from every US state, Canada, and many European countries.
We are also conveniently located to Greenville, SC, recently recognized as one of the 10 best cities in the US to visit. If you have time while in the Saluda area, hopefully you will drive to downtown Greenville and enjoy the center city water falls, "swinging" bridge, fabulous restaurants, theater, music, and specialty stores and shops.
We chose Lake Hosea due to its laid back atmosphere, very natural landscaping, and the lake. We love walking around the lake, enjoying the birds, wild flowers, and natural scenery of this neighborhood. Quiet, private, but easily accessible to town and conveniences. In deciding to rent the cabin, we are providing a comfortable cabin that is fully equipped for most - all paper products, full line of linens/towels, fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances and cookware. Designed to offer a get-away where you only need to bring your clothes, meds, and some food; and if you don't want to bring food, several very good restaurants are nearby.
We have taken the time and energy to decorate and maintain a comfortable, clean, and attractive home, and appreciate our guests who respect the home and treat it as we do - relax and enjoy.
Our first guests at the Benke cabin were ideal! They were respectful of our home, communicated well, and responded to all our questions. A very positive first experience for us as renters, and we hope these folks will visit any time.
Everything was exactly as stated. Very comfortable and private. Hendersonville was great as was Saruda. Thanks to our host and we will recommend your place to others.

From the first inquiry to the owner, (who immediately responded with the requested information) to our final locking of the door on the way out, our stay at Cabin on Lake Hosea was the best experience we have had using VRBO and HomeAway. The property sits in the quiet of North Carolina mountains with an interior straight out of Southern Living. The kitchen was fully appointed including a most extraordinary collection of copper clad cookware which is too pretty to cook with BTW. With all the comforts of home and close to everything, it was hard to say good bye. The appliances are first class along with a beautiful deck to grill a steak and enjoy a nice bottle of wine.
Just a first class experience all around and a must stay if you are in the Saluda area for any reason. My wife and I plan to stay there next year during the same period assuming we attend the same conference.
Bravo to Gayle for a job well done indeed.
We enjoyed our stay in your beautiful cottage. It certainly offered all the comforts of home. Thank you for providing such a serene and
quiet spot in the woods near a great lake. We also enjoyed very much having the golf cart to ride around our surroundings. We would not hesitate to visit this spot again in the future. It was perfect in every way. Small town Main Street was just a short ride away featuring great restaurants and shops. We will definitely tell our friends and family about this special place.
We absolutely loved our stay here. Everything exceeded our expectations. This cabin was extremely clean and well taken care of. We own a vacation rental of our own so I appreciate the attention to detail they provide. We will definitely return!
Beautiful, comfy, and clean cabin. We enjoyed swinging in the hammock, riding on the paddle boat, the beautiful flowers around the house, quiet surroundings, and the short commute into town. The beds were very comfortable and our girls enjoyed having their room upstairs in the loft. We were able to enjoy tubing through wilderness cove which was a blast. We also enjoyed the summer tracks concert in Tryon which was a 15-20 min drive from the cabin.
My husband and I stayed at the Benke cabin for eight nights. It was such a wonderful vacation! The moment we stepped in the house we felt at home. It's so cozy and comfortable. You feel like your nestled in the woods away from everything. That said, it take just a few minutes to get to Main Street where there is great food and really cute shops. The owners of the house really went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. We are already planning our trip for next year!
We are located about two miles from the town of Saluda, and about two miles from the Greenville County Water shed entrance. Lake Hosea Drive is off Mountain Page Road, which becomes Greenville Street closer to town. This location is within a 20 minute drive to Hendersonville, Tryon, NC and Landrum, SC. The area is known for its outdoor activitity opportunities including tubing, kayaking, zip lining, mountain hiking and biking. Many festivals are held here each year including Saluda's Art Festival in the spring, Coon Dog day which is the first Saturday after July 4. The Apple Festival is held in Hendersonville in September. And other festivals are held in Tryon and nearby towns.
