About Antonia

Antonia is an Opera Singer and Roy is an Antique Restorer & Musician. Antonia's father was from Alghero and came to England in the late sixties. Since a child , she has been coming to Alghero every year for holidays and to visit family.

In those days there weren't direct flights and we would always have to go to the mainland first. When Ryanair started to fly here it made it so much easier and so we decided that it was a good time to buy somewhere for ourselves to stay.

Antonia purchased this apartment in 2003

Why Antonia chose Alghero area

We love Alghero's old town with everything on your doorstep including some of the best restaurants. Looking out of the window and watching the world go by is free entertainment! There's no better place to be to experience the real Italy.

You can walk around the old town walls by the sea, eating an ice-cream watching the sunset over Capo Caccia or sit at a bar having morning coffee and a cake whilst people watching and looking out to the sea.

The beaches are walking distance along a beautiful promenade or you can cycle on the purpose built cycle lane. There's no need for a car but if you did want to travel further afield, the bus station is nearby and buses are reliable and cheap.

What makes this apartment unique

Our flat is perfect for the real feel of Alghero, you are immersed in the historic centre as soon as you step out of the door. The best bars, clothes shops, restaurants and food shops are all within minutes walk.

We love chatting to the locals who are always friendly and the whole place is incredibly child friendly, our sons are often out with us until the early hours in Alghero!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Had a fantastic time here. It was our first trip to Sardinia and we have loved it. Over the week we went to 4 different restaurants/pizzerias. I highly recommend El Pultal on Via Columbano. It's a great pizza restaurant and the staff are lovely. It's reasonably priced and the pizzas are amazing. We have all had a really good time and hope to be back soon.

The flat was beautifully furnished and had everything we needed. Thanks to Antonia and Roy for all the tips and guidance with the flat and the local area, especially with the parking and the restaurants.

Lovely apartment in the old town

  • 5 of 5

I visited Alghero many years ago, staying in the new town. I returned with friends at Easter and thought how much nicer it would be to stay in the old town, with its historic character and ideal location. I wasn't disappointed. Antonia and Roy's apartment was ideal, with all the necessary facilities, including iron and washing machine to catch up on some washing we had accumulated earlier in our trip. The kitchen is well stocked and there are some dvds and cds if you want to spend a night in. There are plenty of places to eat and drink but it is also nice to have the option to self cater. The apartment is spacious and well laid out. The rooms are cool, which I imagine in summer is welcome, although at easter was not so necessary; however, once the windows and shutters are open there is ample light. The furnishings are a little old fashioned for my taste but in a fairly neutral way, which means that they don't offend, and in any case are consistent with the "old town" atmosphere of the place. As mentioned elsewhere the double room has a huge comfortable bed. The only comparable bed that I have slept on, size wise, was in an old palace in Rajasthan, so it helped to conjure up some happy memories. There was a small leak in the bathroom which I texted Antonia about and she had it fixed the same day while we were out and about. It didn't spoil our holiday at all. All in all I would recommend the apartment for anyone who wishes to make Alghero their base for a holiday in one of the loveliest islands (if not the loveliest) in the mediterranean.

Excellent apartment!!

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is in a fantastic location in the historic centre of Alghero. It is well equipped and spotlessly clean. There are lots of excellent restaurants nearby, many within 100m. We were checked in by Francesca who was very friendly and helpful. I can highly recommend this apartment and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Great in town accommodation

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic holiday. This apartment was right in the heart of Alghero Old Town, all holiday we kept saying we couldn't believe how lucky we were. On a morning you could walk to the local bakery shop and get delicious freshly baked bread.

You could walk out on an evening and be immediately part of the atmosphere. The restaurants were good.

The apartment was lovely, tastefully decorated to be in keeping with the building. The apartment had everything we needed and more to ensure we had a perfect holiday. It had Wifi which was also wonderful.

Many thanks

A perfect apartment.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with 4 teenage girls and had the best time. They still talk about it 2 years later and ask to go back! The apartment was spotlessly clean, perfectly situated for the type of holiday we wanted and was very well equipped. We had a hire car and were able to park it a short walk away each evening. Being in the old town meant that we could live like the locals if we wanted to - the teenagers loved walking around in the evenings just taking in the atmosphere. At times they went off to the beach on the bus (very easy to do) or went shopping which meant we weren't on top of each other all the time.

We had some fabulous days out - Bosa, Capocaccia, agriturismo, day out on Andrea Padre (girls' favourite trip) and the many and varied beaches.

Alghero has something for everyone, is very beautiful, easy to get to from the UK and the apartment is spot on in every way.

Beautiful, well equipped apartment

  • 5 of 5

This is a stylish and comfortable apartment. It's very clean and spacious, and situated a short walk from all practical amenities such as the baker's, or the fruit and the fish markets, as well as numerous cafes, bars, restaurants and shops.

Being in Alghero at the height of the holiday season means that the town's restaurants and shops stays busy well into the evening, so this might not suit you if you need peace and quiet.

On our arrival we were met by the helpful property manager who lives locally. All communication with the owner was straightforward, prompt and efficient.

We'd certainly recommend this property as a good base for exploring the area and its beautiful beaches, especially if you'd enjoy being in the heart of the old city.

First visit in Alghero

  • 5 of 5

Ideal placed in the historic center and our base ( 2 adults and 3 teenagers) for 6 days in Alghero. The flat is very well equiped and we felt very much " at home " . We especially enjoyed the town and the locals! Tey seem so nice, varm, open and talkative. We did most of our cooking at the flat with no problems. The town has lots of small shops and markets near by....we would also like to recommend the jewrelly " Il talismano" they have cheap handcrafted quality and are so nice....

Last by most important... thanks to Antonia ( the owner ) for her concern and the good correspondence! and to Gordon ( the manager in Alghero)

Alghero has so much to offer the visitor with unspoilt stretches of white sandy beaches and clear waters which at present remain relatively uncrowded apart from in the peak season.

There are opportunities to try your hand at several water sports.

Alghero is still a flourishing fishing port hence the abundance of fresh fish on the menus. Lobster is a local speciality! Sardinian cuisine is about fresh ingredients, simply prepared and complimented by the highly rated local cannonau wine.

There are lots of fantastic restaurants and bars in the area .One can get lost meandering through the narrow cobbled streets.

Two hundred kilometres from the Italian mainland and about the same from North Africa, Sardinia sits in the middle of the Mediterranean, which has meant that throughout its history it has been invaded by various civilisations; Romans, Genoans, Carthiginians and most recently the Catalonians. The people in Alghero speak an ancient form of Catalan and the town is known as 'Barcelonetta'.

As everything is to hand it is not necessary to have a car. A Supermarket and many small shops and bakeries are all nearby. We can arrange airport transfers. With a car however, you can explore some of the wonderful beaches and scenery further afield. In Alghero parking is in designated areas just outside the old town. The old town is a restricted traffic zone. There is a very large free car park at the port which is a 5 minute walk away from the flat. Alghero can be quite busy during the months of July and August as these are the months Italians holiday in.
