I'm now retired as Exec Director and founder of the Wyoming Wilderness Association. I grew up in Denver, CO. I am now a practicing painter, birder, hiker and traveler as well as a landlady! My M.F.A degree is from the Univ of Washington.
Liz Howell purchased this house in 2001
I wanted to provide a homey and arty experience for the travelers while visiting Sheridan. This updated 1910 house has a wonderful history and lots of privacy in a quiet neighborhood with lovely big yard and gardens. I live in the other half closed off by curtains and french doors. Full kitchen is well-equipped.
I love Wyoming for its wildness. The Bighorn Mountains are only an hour away for fishing, hiking and camping. Sheridan is a super friendly town, small yet highly cultured. The WYO Theater brings wonderful events, musical, theatric and vital. The hiking/walking paths and parks in Sheridan are well developed. The Howell Hotel is located just 5 blocks from downtown restaurants, bars and shopping. In the summer, Sheridan boasts a Farmers market every Thursday and the Third Thursday of every month is a great street festival with music, food and booths.
The house was clean and comfortable and eclectically decorated - something new to see every time you walked into a room! Very quiet neighborhood that was close to downtown. Very enjoyable.
I was in town with my wife and 2 young kids for 4 days. Adorable little home. Location of this home was perfect for the family. Restaurants, parks just blocks away. The layout was great too as it offered ample room for the family. Most surprising was how cool the home stayed during the day with temps hitting the 90s during our stay. Not once did we use the A/C and we were all extremely comfortable.
Most importantly though, Liz was a gracious host and went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable. My family and I are already missing all that was offered in such a lovely little town! We can't wait to come back.
A warm home away from home. I came to Sheridan to visit my daughter who is on a scholarship at Sheridan College from Australia and I was looking for somewhere to stay where she could stay with me off campus, cook, relax and feel like she was home. We found the right place here.
Ten out of ten for comfort and location which is only a short walk to Main Street Sheridan. Liz thought of everything to make us feel right at home and offered to provide us with anything we thought was missing. Knowing we were from Australia, Liz even put an electric blanket on the bed for us to use if we were too cold. Lovely art work and books in the house add to the cosy, homely feel.
Before our arrival Liz asked if we celebrated Christmas and if so would we like her to put up a Christmas Tree and decorations? As we do celebrate Christmas, Liz put up a real tree with lovely lights and decorations around the lounge for us.
Thank you Liz. We would recommend the Howell Hotel highly to others.
I was in Sheridan for quite a long stay while visiting my daughter and her family. When I'm somewhere for a long time a couple of things are of upmost importance: quiet neighborhood, walkability, comfortable bed, and relaxing bathtub. This rental got an A+ on all those. I never heard traffic noise and rarely heard neighbors. I could walk to my daughters, to downtown, to Kendrick Park and Whitney Commons. I could walk to the Red Velvet Bakery in the morning for the best cup of cappuccino in town (and the best food, too) - it was great to have such good walkability. The bed was comfortable also. Can't speak to the pillows and blankets as I leave my pillows and comforters at my daughters so they are always there for me, but the sheets were great. The bathtub is a really neat shape, sort of sitting/laying down and was great for a soak. It was fun to walk back at night and sometimes find a deer in the yard, or wild turkey across the street. It's just across from the sledding hill so in winter it would be a good location. By the time I left, I really felt like I lived there and I plan to return next year and the year after that, etc. Overall, a most satisfactory stay.
We felt like we were invited into a friend's home. It was on a quiet street, with a lovely landscaped garden in the back. We enjoyed our stay very much!
The property is beautifully landscaped. The overall appearance is comfortable and charming. We enjoyed our stay very much. When we return to Sheridan we hope to stay there again.
Must see places include King's Rope Saddlery Museum, Trails End Museum, 20 miles of walk/run/bike trails in Sheridan, Hike the Bighorns or the prairies east of town on wild public lands! Great birding following the river corridors.
