Overall we really enjoyed our stay. It is so quiet there and very little people on the beach which is just what we were looking for. Cute house right on the beach that met all of our needs. Did have a little issue with getting the door code on check-in day so had to stand outside waiting to hear back from property owners. Suggest pre-arranging that prior to check-in day. The owners were great with providing us information before our arrival that made getting supplies (groceries, etc.) and arranging transportation to/from the island. (They suggested a golf cart rental company- but we never heard back from that company. Other than the day of arrival when we were carrying all of our bags & groceries, we didn't feel like we needed a golf cart so it worked out okay.) There was one day with a water issue, but was able to get in touch with the owners quickly and they had had someone out in a very reasonable amount of time.
If you are looking for a place to get away, relax, and disconnect then this is a great place to do it. We enjoyed walking the beach and there are tons of sea shells. We could watch the wild life (pelicans, dolphins and occasional flying/jumping fish) from the patio with drink in hand. They accurately describe that there is nothing on island other than houses so be sure to bring everything (food, toiletries, etc.) you need when you come. Unless you have a boat or arrange/pay for multiple water taxi rides to leave island, there is nothing else to do other than enjoy the water and sandy beach. Which was just enough for us.
So far we had been to LGI 3 times. This was by far the best house in terms of location, decor, amenities, etc... We had a WONDERFUL time - it just ended far too soon! The owner was in constant contact with us. He called when we secured our reservation to offer any extra information or answer questions we might have. Also contacted us upon our arrival, as well as a few more times just to make sure everything was going perfectly. Immediately upon arrival I was incredibly impressed with the decor/condition of the house. It must be so tough to maintain a vacation rental from afar, yet it was just absolutely wonderful....wonderful and perfect! Our party consisted of 2 adults and 2 small children (4 and 6 years old). Having the extra half bath was so convenient! Also the location is PERFECT for traveling with little ones, as you can enjoy time on the beach and the children can return to the house at any time for whatever reason - just steps away (literally). There was an issue with the water, but within an hour of contacting the owner someone was there to fix it. Another wonderful thing about the house was how clean/tidy it was upon our arrival. Not all of the homes on LGI are kept up as well as this one. Between the location/decor/cleanliness/owner availability - I am not sure I will continue to explore other homes in on LGI for our future visits. We will return. It was absolutely a WONDERFUL family vacation!
During our first visit to Little Gasparilla Island we picked this house and had an amazing experience. We got a call from Danny on the day of check-in, a text during the visit to see if we needed anything, and another call on the day of check-out to make sure everything was as expected. We've rented many homes via VRBO and this was one of our best experiences to date.
The island is a gem, the locals are fabulous and welcoming, and there are only about a dozen homes right on the beach. This one has one of the very best locations and amenities. The only disappointment was that the sliding glass doors to the deck are too swollen with humidity to operate well. We went out the side door every time and quickly got used to it. The house was comfortable, in great condition otherwise, and well-stocked. On a remote island it's difficult to find you've forgotten something important - like toilet paper! We found an ample supply of some staples as well as the all-important bug spray that we never thought to bring! There seems to be a trend of guests leaving some of their extra supplies for incoming guests, and we did the same as well.
We enjoyed being lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves and waking up every morning to check for new sea turtle tracks in the sand. I've never seen more seashells ever in my life! We rented a golf cart and stand up paddleboard and would recommend both. You won't find any restaurants, bars, or nightlife here but if you're looking for a place to escape from reality, relax, put your feet up, and truly enjoy nature, peace, and quiet, this is your place.
We just returned from a week on LGI at the Point Break beach house. It was so fun!
-The location of this house in relation to the dock where you arrive is pretty much a straight shot across the island, no twisting and turning on island roads to find your house!
-The house is on the north end of the island where there are about 13-14 houses that sit really close to the water. These are the only homes on the island that are ON the beach and require no walking at all from your steps to the beach. AWESOME!!!
-The house is the perfect size for a family of four. The two bedrooms are right across the hall from one another, perfect for our small children.
-Everything was very clean when we arrived and well-stocked with what we needed (towels, beach towels, dish soap, even salt and pepper!).
-The kitchen is really well-stocked, from a big pot for a shrimp boil, to a colander for spaghetti. There is also a trash compactor, which is great since you carry your trash off the island when you go. We had ONE bag of trash for the whole week thanks to the compactor.
-There is a very large dining table (great for puzzles) and a small table for four on the screened in deck (we ate almost every meal on the deck).
-There are multiple places to rinse off when returning from the beach and some beach toys/boogie boards, chairs and an umbrella you can use.
-Liz sent an information sheet when we booked the house with everything we needed to know about shopping/transportation.
-There were some occasional hiccups with the water system (it shorts if you have too much going on at once), but it was super easy to address and Danny was available when we needed instructions.
We have been to many beaches and beach properties and this is one of a kind! Having a home so close to the water is really something special. LGI is great place for families and we had daily adventures of all kinds. I recommend renting a golf cart to explore the island (we did this daily after lunch and dinner and had different experiences each time). We saw lots of lizards, gopher tortoises, we found a marshy crab habitat, visited the island library, and just had fun looking around the island. The beach is covered in shells and shark teeth and we found whole sand dollars out in the water. There were a couple of days I walked north on the state park beach and saw no one else the whole time.
Great place, and Danny and Liz are SUPER!!!
My wife and I have just returned from visiting Florida for 3 weeks, 4 nights/5 days of which were on Little Gasparilla Island at Liz and Danny's great beachfront cottage. The cottage is ON the beach and about as close to the water as you can get really. Danny and Liz were very accessible for any questions or for just providing necessary information about the cottage....we were very comfortable with anything pertaining to the cottage because of that. The access information regarding taking the water taxi from Eldridge Marina, advice on picking up groceries for your stay, etc were spot-on and extremely helpful.
We really enjoyed our stay there because the cottage is extremely comfortable, equipped and allows you to simply relax in any way you wish. Our biggest 'issue' was really more about bad luck with Mother Nature. High wind warnings the afternoon of our arrival provided a slightly rougher-than-normal water taxi ride on the bay side to the dock. The Gulf side surf was quite impressive....loud and big! It calmed down the rest of our stay, however we also had a bout with 'red tide' which was a bit of a nuisance respiratorily... coughing and minor throat/chest irritation. A cold that entire week pushed all the way to Miami so our highs a couple of days barely reached 60. As I said...there's nothing you can do about that so we made ourselves quite comfortable at the cottage and enjoyed the gorgeous views....lots of birds, dolphins and morning beach walks provided all the shells and sharks teeth you could possibly want.
Overall, this is a wonderful place to stay...a very comfortable cottage in a great location on the beach. We found not having direct transportation access a bit of a nuisance, however it also provides a blessing in disguise....'trapped' relaxation is not such a bad thing!!! :-) We would most certainly consider returning to this cottage and LGI in the future.
The sound of surf, a sandy beach a few stair steps away, limitless shells to discover and collect, extraordinary water and sunset views from both the deck and the interior of the house -the ultimate beach house experience. Thoughtfully and comfortably furnished with a designer's sensibility Point Break Beach House is easy to love and hard to leave. Comfortable beds, abundant towels for bath and beach, and a kitchen up to vacation meal preparation - and an exceptional grill on the screened in porch.
Our first night we experienced an exceptionally severe thunder storm that impacted the electricity. A telephone call to the owner was all it took to get it quickly resolved. We originally planned to rent a golf cart primarily to transport our luggage and supplies to and from the house. Instead we hired a very responsible local teen to meet us at the dock on arrival and the house on departure to help with the carrying. The island is quite small -easy and fun to explore by foot. Other islanders were extremely friendly and helpful and after a day or two fellow beach walkers became familiar. As described in the listing it is a quiet, "away from it all" experience. If this is what you are looking for - Point Break Beach House is a find.
