Merigwen was moved to Juneau from California by her parents at the age of 6. Upon seeing the then muddy streets of downtown, she was less than impressed and started to cry. Forty-three years later, she is still here...raising her three children with her Japanese husband, Tom and thanking her parents for the beautiful place she calls home.
Merigwen Kawakami purchased this house in 2013
This area of Juneau receives great sunlight from morning to night. No matter where you want to go, you are nearly there. It's easy access to bike paths and the city bus line. Best of all, I love the view of the Chilkat mountains.
Our visit to Juneau was delightful. With five adults, the accommodations were perfect! The kitchen was well supplied and the overall space was great. It took a bit of time to figure out the heater...a minor issue. Only one issue we all were in agreement on was that the living/family room sofa was uncomfortable and kept sliding apart. Overall, on our trip to eight different towns on the Inside Passage, this property was at the top of our list.
Merigwen was very accommodating she even bought rugs for mud room on my mom's request! This is the second year we have stayed there and both times were great! I would recommend this place to anyone.
The property provided a wonderful place for our family to stay. It was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen was fairly well supplied. We would have enjoyed more towels and kitchen linens and did run out of toilet paper. Perhaps these could be better stocked. Overall, we had a comfortable stay and would have no doubts about using the place again. Cleanliness and location were the best features. Give it a try--you won't be disappointed!
We loved this place! It was a great location, comfortable and clean. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay:-)
great house in perfect location. The house was clean, with good sized bedrooms & closets. Living area was comfy; great views from the deck and bedrooms. Towels super soft. Hair dryers and toiletries supplied was a bonus. Merigwen was super friendly & helpful. Would stay there again.
I give this house 4.5 only because there were no screens on the windows so we could not keep windows open very long before the bugs brigade visited.
We loved our stay in Juneau, the home was clean and comfortable, we happened to luck out and come when it was unusually warm like 80 degrees.
The house is not equipped for that kind of weather. So it was rather warm for sleeping the first couple nights ,screens on the windows would have helped, however there are small fans that help a little. but not to worry as would be expected it cooled down. On the flip side we only experience a couple days of rain therefore we got to enjoy the deck which became our favorite place to watch the eagles, and watch the tide come in and out truly amazing views and great location. The morning we were leaving there was a bear having breakfast on the salmon berries just 10 feet from our car, what a thrill to watch the black bear eat berries for awhile. Merigwen the owner was so willing to come late at night when we arrived to bring a pak and play for our grandson. She is very accommodating, we would love to come back sometime.
