Once upon a time, many years ago...1971...
We drove down the winding road into Pineridge and felt we'd left the cares of the world behind. Before us lay the beautiful aquamarine waters of Deer Lake, a sandy beach, and cute cabins at the waters edge, all surrounded by stately pines and birch. We had been looking for a new direction in life; a way to raise our children in a more peaceful atmosphere. Pineridge was for sale. To make a long story short, there we were in the summer of 1972, running the resort...
Steve Lyons purchased this cabin in 1971
We like to think it's the fantastic Hosts :), but Deer Lake is probably the biggest reason folks keep coming back to visit. It is often called the most beautiful lake in Minnesota for it's crystal clear blue water that changes colors, but we call it "The Caribbean of The North!" Surrounded by thick forests of pine, balsam, birch and cedar, the lake is 4300 acres with 7 islands to explore. We are located on the southeast part of the lake so we get the best sunsets in the county.
Those of you with children will be glad to know we have a safe sandy beach! We have about 2000 feet of shoreline, and about 800 feet of broad sandy beach. The swimming area goes out gradually for about 200 feet with no holes or drop offs.
One of the things we really like about Pineridge is it's small size; there are never many people around. The mood of the place changes from week to week, and is shaped by those who are here. The closest thing to a scheduled activity is our weekly bonfire. Sometimes we do a little singing to the accompaniment of Gail's guitar...others who play an instrument are encouraged to participate, and sometimes the kids in camp will delight us with an impromptu talent show...
The playground area has a teeter totter, bars, swings, tether ball, horseshoes, room for croquet, badminton, volleyball, and bocce ball which are all available for free. Sometimes we'll have a volleyball game in the water. The game room has pool, fooseball, air hockey, and ping pong. There is a swimming raft, and if you share a beer or a smile Steve may take you water skiing or tubing. Enjoy free use of the paddle boards, paddle boats, canoes, and kayaks!
The nearby area offers many recreational and educational side trips. Grand Rapids has several tennis courts and some of the prettiest golf courses in the state. The Forest History Center with it's turn of the century logging camp is a ten minutes away, and the famous iron range open pit mines are within 45 minutes.
Deer Lake's many miles of shoreline and underwater structure provide a challenge to those who fish. Deer is probably best known for it's production of trophy muskie, but it also produces lots of nice walleye and smallmouth bass! Due to its cool water, Deer Lake seems to have its best fishing during the hotter weather when other lakes in the area slow down. We'll show you our favorite fishing spots as long as you share your pictures! If you are too lazy to take a boat out, just fish from the bench at the end of the dock. You'll catch mostly smallmouth and rockbass, but ocassionally a walleye or a pike.
Each cabin comes with a 14 foot aluminum boat. We have motors for rent or you are free to bring your own. Comfort Cove harbour will protect your large boat.
We feel fortunate that over the years we have been able to attract some of the world's nicest people... And now, some of their kids are bringing their kids...
In 1972, our first summer at Pineridge, we hung a small sign in each cabin encouraging people to be conscientious of their surroundings...thanks to everyone's help, this seems to have made a difference. While many parts of the earth have suffered, this little piece has remained the same, and we will strive to keep it that way.
We are proud of Pineridge, and we will do our best to keep it as a sanctuary for those who want to leave the real world for a little peace and quiet.
Thanks for your support... Bob & Gail
You just cannot take enough sunset photos from this property! Our Florisota get together was great: the cabins had everything you needed, right on the beach and easy to keep an eye on the kids at the water. Game room was fantastic for those stormy afternoons/evenings. Paddling on the lake was loved by all--no matter what method (paddle board, kayak, canoe, etc), bonfires, story telling while listening to the Loons and the water on the shore. Gail and Steve and the rest of the family here are wonderful: welcoming, caring, helpful, fun! I hope that new pinball machine is kinder to the other guests, though ;) Thanks to you all, and the new friends and acquaintances we met. We hope to see you again real soon.
Three generations of our family came from MN, WA, VA, and TX to spend a week at Pineridge Resort on Deer Lake. We had sunshine, wind, coffee on the dock, kayaks, paddle boards, swimming, sand castle building, fishing, game room, reading, great meals together, and lots of laughter! Our finale was a resort fish fry.
THANKS to Steve, Gail, and family for help when we needed it and access to lots of fun!
This was the perfect summer vacation! The beach and fishing were awesome I even caught my first Muskie. Our three children loved Pineridge and even called it the best vacation ever! We'll be back next year.
If you have small kids, pets and love clear water with plenty of shallow swimming area, this is the place for you. It was just what we had hoped for. I looked at many properties and was not sure if we would be close to water from our cabin, if the water would be clean and if the kids could do water activities on their own. This was perfect for all of the above. The family atmosphere and gracious hosts made it the perfect getaway. Game room, kayaks, canoe and paddle boat was plenty to keep our 3 kids busy each day. Close to Grand Rapids for all your needs. Highly recommend it to all! Thanks Lyons ( owners ) for a great vacation!! Dean and Ana Podratz
We had a completely wonderful vacation here! We had a sandy beach right outside our cabin door. The cleanest, most pristine lake water I've ever seen! Kayaks, Paddle Boats, Canoes, water floats & lounge chairs were all included. This vacation really allowed us to relax and enjoy our family and nature! The owners are also very wonderful and treated us like family from the moment we pulled up until we left. They were very attentive to our needs and our children's and made us feel very comfortable. They even made a bonfire one night and took us across the lake via pontoon boat so we could explore the huge eagles nest and eagles. Great destination!
I actually hesitated to write a review because I am afraid everyone will want to come to this resort and then I'll end up on a waiting list. I enjoyed many summer vacations at Pineridge as a child and came back this year with my son. There isn't anything I don't like about Pineridge. The cabins have a great northern Minnesota feel, the resort is hidden away from the road and is surrounded by trees, the lake is clear and beautiful, there are fish to be caught, the beach is great for kids, and the owners have an ability to make everyone feel at home. Thank you to the Lyons for sharing this beautiful location on Deer Lake with the rest of us.
The town of Grand Rapids (Population 9000) is less than a 15 minute drive away and has everything imaginable for your convenience.
There is also a local convenience store and Cedar Creek Grill about 3 miles away.
