2 bedroom, 2 full baths w/ large screened porch close to beach and bay

Little Gasparilla Island Vacation Rental, Casa Contenta, is a relaxing key west style island home ideally situated 500 feet from the Gulf of Mexico and 300 feet from Lemon Bay. Its garden overflows with tropical foliage including palms, hibiscus, bird of paradise, sea grapes, and bougainvillea.

The main floor is perfect for relaxing. The open floor plan connects the kitchen, dining area, living room, and large screened in porch. The wall of sliding glass doors easily glide open to provide seamless access between indoors and the private porch situated in tropical splendor. New oak hardwoods, tile, HVAC, ceiling fans in every room and 2 ceiling fans on the porch and a fully equipped kitchen are provided for your comfort.

The living room is furnished with comfortable leather sofas and recliner. A new 40' Samsung TV, dvd player, small and growing dvd collection, in house library, board games and puzzles provide beach vacation entertainment.

The main-level master suite (with comfortable queen bed and 400 count linens) also opens to the porch with sliding glass doors to let the outdoors in. Lay in bed and listen to the wind rustle the palms, with sounds from the Gulf. A full bath is on the main floor.

Upstairs the master suite enjoys double decks with expansive island wide views east to the bay and west to the gulf. You can open the doors for a cross breeze; watch the sun rise over the bay; sunbathe through the day in privacy and star gaze at night. This bedroom features a comfortable queen bed and full bath nestled under a cathedral ceiling, with beautiful wooden beams.

CARTS AVAILABLE

A large cart is available for transporting your things to and from the dock (300' away). For our monthly renters we can make our 4-person golf cart available for your island touring.

UNIQUE ISLAND BENEFITS

As part of the barrier island chain that includes Sanibel and Captiva Island, Little Gasparilla Island offers privacy and tranquility and a rare sense of peace not found at many Florida vacation spots. Many days you can walk the beach without seeing more than a handful of others. As a bridge-less barrier island, accessible only by water taxi, Little Gasparilla has fewer tourists, no high rises and no crowds on the beach. During the summer, the beach is a nesting spot for endangered sea turtles which lay their eggs in the warm sand near the dunes.

The shells on the island are among the most plentiful on the West Coast and the beaches are dotted with prehistoric shark's teeth free for the collecting. The sandbars are home to sand dollars, whelks, starfish and conchs.

TRANSPORTATION DETAILS

There is water taxi service to and from the island available by appointment between 8:30 to 5 PM (other hours available for an extra fee). .You just phone them, tell them your dock number and they will pick you up at a local marina (where you also park) and drop you at your dock.

SELF-CATERING

You must bring all your groceries over with you on the water taxi. There are no stores or restaurants on the Island. There is an excellent fish market in nearby Placida and several mainland restaurants are also reachable by boat.

There are several golf courses within 10 minutes of the marina. There are charming gift and souvenir shops in the villages of Placida and Boca Grande. Boat rentals are available in Englewood, Placida and Boca Grande and fishing charters in Placida and Boca Grande.

Fishing from either the dock or the beach can provide daily entertainment -- and a hearty meal depending on your luck…and at the end of a long day, a breathtaking sunset over the Gulf of Mexico gently eases you into the evening.

Please note that most all houses on Little Gasparilla island are on stilts. Unfortunately, we are not handicapped accessible. Small children will require supervision on the stairs.

Please note there is no smoking in the island house.

Come Ready to Relax.

About Paris Cousins - Property Manager

I currently divide my time between Atlanta, GA and Little Gasparilla Island, Fl. As a professor of engineering i am blessed to enjoy time off between semesters so I head to Casa Contenta for peace, privacy and total relaxation! As soon as i arrive at the marina to catch the water taxi i can feel my cares and stress melt away!

Paris Cousins - Property Manager purchased this house in 2014

Why Paris Cousins - Property Manager chose Florida South Central Gulf Coast

This is a GREAT island home! The double-sized lot is private behind its garden of tropical splendor foliage and perfectly situated between the gulf and the bay.

The house is comfortably furnished with its open floor plan and connection to the outdoors for al fresco dining. And the ocean breezes are a true tonic. It is amazing how doing little to nothing except walking on the beach, reading, enjoying nature and napping can revive and invigorate me. This fall I plan on installing a garden for herbs and veggies so me and my guests can enjoy the bounty!

I vacationed on LGI for many years with my family. When this unique house became available I jumped at the opportunity to purchase.

I look forward to hosting you in my favorite Casa Contenta soon! I know you will fall in the love with the island and the house!

What makes this house unique

Ideally situated 500' to the gulf and 300' to the bay. Casa Contenta is a landmark on the island and most folks know it as 'Abbey Road' its unofficial street sign name. Aside from its awesome stilt home architecture and amenity filled furnishing I think you will enjoy the huge, screened and shade protected back porch. My guests find reading, eating and napping out there to be habit forming. The setting is truly beautiful and relaxing. I look forward to sharing my home with guests from around the world.

Guestbook comments from the manager

What a nice place. We really enjoyed our stay. Relaxing house is the perfect name for this home. All the conveniences of home but on a beautiful island setting. Just a sort walk to the beach where I spent many mornings walking and relaxing. Everything you need is already there no need to bring anything but food. Kitchen was set up very well. The beds were very comfortable with plenty of linens and pillows. We travel to this area every year to Tarpon fish and we will be staying here from now on. Its just a short boat ride to the main land and to the marina most guides fish from.

Everything we hoped for and more!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I wanted to find a place to celebrate our 15 year wedding anniversary. We went back and forth about heading to the Islands and finding a resort when we stumbled on to this home. If you truly want to experience a place without anyone around this it! Everyday consisted of a short stroll to the beach with long walks finding shark teeth and shells. Afternoons were spent at the house with all the doors open reading and listening to the ocean. The evening we were off on the golf cart finding different spots to watch the sunset. In the morning at the house you can watch the sunrise as well if you don't feel like walking to the bay side. The house is extremely comfortable including the sofa and the beds. It has everything you need from kayaks, beach chairs and every pot and pan you could imagine. The house even has two book shelves stocked with awesome books, movies and plenty of board games. Yes, you have to bring all food with you but if you enjoy cooking which my husband does then you have it made! Hit the Fish Market before you come. We had Stone Crab Claws, Surf & Turf, and fresh fish on the grill. We found the library that works on the honor system and the Gone Fishing art gallery. Both were worth exploring. Don Pedro State Park has a great nature walk just be sure to have water and be prepared for a long stroll. The wide life is fantastic! We saw gopher turtles, black racer snakes, & even a small owl. Of course the ghost crabs and the shore birds were some of my favorite to watch. This place is 100% peaceful and you will walk away feeling extremely relaxed.

Last the property manager Paris is fantastic! If you have any questions she is extremely prompt and helpful. Paris even took it a step further to make sure we had everything we needed and were happy after arrival.

A place to make your own fun

  • 5 of 5

We arrived from New England where the temperature was -20 degrees. On LGI, it was mid-70s and cloudless, and it stayed that way ALL week. Because of that, we could be outside every minute we weren't sleeping. We walked and collected shells; we ran miles up and down the beach; we bicycled to the northern tip of the island; we kayaked in the bay. When we felt brave, we dipped in the chilly water. We watched movies, read books, played games, and visited with each other. We were two adult couples, and the house was made for us.

Because you have to bring all your food with you, and because I enjoy cooking, I was pleased to have a really nice kitchen with good pots and pans and sharp knives. We dutifully separated recycling only to have it all tossed in the trash at the marina...

This is an ideal vacation spot for quiet people who can make their own fun.

Unplug, relax and recharge

  • 5 of 5

LGI is where I come when I want to get off the grid (or mostly), enjoy peace and quiet, and reconnect with my family. Casa Contenta of LGI is a perfect house to use as a home base. My family starts our day by enjoying our coffee on dock 21 (a 3 minute walk away) and watching the sun rise over the bay. We usually do some fishing or go explore the island in a golf cart with extra points for spotting gopher tortoises. Midmorning is time for hunting for shells or sharks' teeth on the beach following by a short swim in the gulf. Lunch and games, videos or naptimes are our favorite ways to relax after lunch. The house is comfortable with a large screened in porch perfect for meals and hanging out. Upper deck facing the gulf is great for sunbathing. Beds are comfortable. Outdoor shower is a treat. All is well cared for, comfortable, relaxing and HEAVEN. Do yourself and your family a favor and book a trip today.

Pure heavenly time

  • 5 of 5

My time at this LGIsland was pure heavenly time as I relaxed, walking on the lovely sand in the morning a perfect time, finding the ocean was ever so beautiful. Casa Contenta is just a very short walk from the ocean, while I found an afternoon lounging on the screened back porch perfect respite from the sun. Somehow the book I had taken remained unread, since the breezes through the trees was so comforting that I rested and considered my many blessings for the time I was here.

Life here without the noise of cars was a real treat since golf carts are the only transportation here. Golf cart was not really necessary unless you want to go adventuring along the shady island lanes.

A special treat was to fly a kite in the late afternoon when the sun was going down.

Somehow the sunset never failed to impress me, and I would find myself lingering down at the water enjoying the lapping waves, hoping to see a manatee or dolphins swim past.

Since Casa Contenta is an elevated house, one needs to walk up a set of stairs. However my 86-year husband was able to carefully navigate up the stairs; his 4-wheeled walker stayed unused. By being elevated, I felt like the little girl of my youth when I'd climb trees and pretend to survey the countryside as my private kingdom. By chosing Casa Contenta you too can find your private kingdom!!

great beach vacation

  • 5 of 5

The island is a wonderful place for vacation. This vacation house was well situated, about 100 steps from the dock and down the path from the beach. The beach was great, with the water shallow enough for my daughter and tons of shells & shark teeth to collect - and the water was so relaxingly warm, such a treat.

The house had everything we needed. Even though we were there in July, and expected it to be very hot, it didn't feel that way. The air-conditioning kept the house a perfect temperature, but I really loved sitting/eating out on the screened porch, where the ceiling fans kept it cool. There was plenty for the beach (toys, chairs, canopy, boards, even a kayak). And the house had a bunch of board games, books and a good selection of DVDs. The house had a good supply of everything, from towels, to kitchen stuff, etc. And it was very clean.

Our family spent a wonderful relaxing week here. Make sure to watch the sunsets, which were just incredible.

Little Gasparilla Island is a tropical barrier island located just off the Southwest Coast of Florida. Situated halfway between Sarasota and Ft. Myers, it benefits from cool tropical breezes in the summer and warm sunshine in the winter. It is just north of Gasparilla Island, separated by Gasparilla Pass. It lies west of the town of Placida, separated by Placida Harbor. It is connected with Don Pedro Island to the north by a thin strip of beach. It borders the Gulf of Mexico to the west.

The most unique attribute of Little Gasparilla is its lack of a bridge…All access is by private boat or water taxi. There are no roads and no cars, and traffic and tourists are just a mainland memory.

The island offers 7 miles of beautiful pristine beach unspoiled by either seawalls or high-rises. During the summer, the beach is a nesting spot for endangered sea turtles which lay their eggs in the warm sand near the dunes.

The shells on the island are among the most plentiful on the West Coast and the beaches are dotted with prehistoric shark's teeth free for the collecting. The best time to go shelling is just before and at low tide and after a storm. Be sure to check the high tide lines where the surf often tosses the largest shells. The sandbars are home to sand dollars, whelks, starfish and conchs.

Mostly, Little Gasparilla offers privacy and tranquility and a rare sense of peace not found at many Florida vacation spots. Many days you can walk the beach for hours without seeing another soul. Yet island neighbors are friendly and always willing to offer a helping hand. There is a quaint island chapel which offers non-denominational services from time to time and which has been the site of memorable island weddings. Golf cart rentals are available on the island for scenic tours but many people prefer to walk the sandy pathways.

A water taxi services the island regularly. You just phone them, tell them your dock number and they will pick you up at a local marina (where you also park) and drop you at your dock.

Boat rentals are available in Englewood, Placida and Boca Grande and there are also many fishing charters in Placida and Boca Grande.

You must bring all your groceries over with you on the water taxi. There is an excellent fish market in nearby Placida and several mainland restaurants are also reachable by boat.

There are no hotels, motels or restaurants on Little Gasparilla Island.

Bird watchers will spot egret and osprey, rare white pelicans, blue herons, and even the occasional bald eagle. The waters are rich with manatees and dolphins and the waves are gentle and calming and perfect for floating on a raft. The bottom is mostly white sand, so there is little to see while snorkeling...though you can often find sand dollars off the sand bar.

Fishing from either the dock or the beach can provide daily entertainment -- and a hearty meal depending on your luck…and at the end of a long day, a breathtaking sunset over the Gulf of Mexico gently eases you into the evening.
