Dragon Cabin is a new remodel and upgrade of a coffee worker's dwelling. Lots of windows and vaulted ceilings open to Kohala's famous trade winds give this 12V, off-grid, tropical hideaway a light and airy openness. Just under 400sq', there is a very roomie, Cal-King bed that sleeps two very comfortably.
There is a fully functional kitchen and propane refrigerator for home cooking.
There is an outdoor, hot-water shower attached and a toilet about 15' away.
The setting is usually incredibly tranquil with only the sounds of the many birds singing and the wind through the ironwoods. Sometimes when the ocean is rough you can hear waves crashing rocks not far away.
Sometimes during the day there are the sounds of a working coffee farm and on some nights it is necessary to run a generator located in a barn some distance from Dragon Cabin for about an hour.
Sometimes there's music.
Your hosts are father and son, Lance and Kanoa. Also on board to help you have an enjoyable stay are Becky and Brother Craig.
We found ourselves at a locked gate, so we were either at the wrong place or someone goofed. After unsuccessfully attempting to contact the owner thru email and by phone we eventually had to give up and get a hotel room. The hotel room, by the way, was quite nice and I would stay there again. It's been a week and we still haven't heard back from the owner, which also means we weren't issued a refund. We contacted VRBO and they said it had to be worked out with the owner. I hope this was an isolated case of bad luck, but the lack of any response is rude.
We really enjoyed your cabin - I loved the coffee the next morning. Really like that part of the big island - thanks again. Lance was very helpful.
This rental is off the grid and rustic as described and was the perfect place to spend our first night on the Big Island. Owner, Lance was very friendly and told us not to miss visiting the Pololu Valley, which was awesome. The bed was quite comfortable and the quiet surroundings provided the perfect environment for a great night's sleep.
The cabin was charming. Was able to make hearty breakfast, enjoy quiet nights, and feel like I was a part of the real Hawaii. Great location in Hawi too. And Lance's dogs are terrific:)
What a peaceful place. It was clean, the bed was very comfortable and Lance was great: personable, helpful, and flexible. We also got a chance to check out the Hawks Nest cabin and it looks even more fabulous with a totally in-the-trees feel and the coolest shower that's like an outdoor shower but with the convenience of one that's "indoors." Hawi is a really beautiful area and we would definitely book with Lance again if we're lucky enough to get back to the big island.
Well Equipped cabin, especially the Kitchen, we had everything we needed and enjoyed listening to the Rain AT night and feeling the Air through the Screened in Windows. IT was roomy very clean and comfy and close to hawi. We had no Problem Finding it or driving the dirt Road With our Nissan versa rental Car. Hot Water and electricity worked fine.
The Outdoor shower and the friedly dogs and surprisingly clingy hen Made the Farm Stay special for US. Great getaway and really quiet Glamping Experience.
