Set on the point of a peninsula with a gazebo, and surrounded by a wrap around deck, house offers views from every window in its huge great room. There is a fully equipped kitchen with granite countertops and basic herbs and spices. The main floor includes one bedroom that sleeps two with an adjacent bathroom. A full bath and two additional bedrooms upstairs can accommodate 4 to 6 people. A portable crib and children's toys remain in the house. The walk out basement is equipped with futons, a children's playhouse and a ping pong table. Outside, a gas grill and two small charcoal grills are available for cooking. Two tables, an umbrella and chairs and two loungers await your al fresco dinners on the deck at sunset. There are two kayaks and a canoe, as well as fishing poles and some water toys available. The lake community has two pools (open summer only); a community beach, a tennis court, a baseball field and several basketball courts for use. The lake is 2-l/2 miles long and offers lovely kayak and canoe excursions. In addition there are some bikes in our shed that will be available for use.
Building the lake house was my husband's and my dream. We wanted a place where family could gather and grandchildren could grow. I live in a city and always longed for a green escape. The lakehouse is a dream come true.
Arlene Silver purchased this house in 2003
We wanted a lake that was pristine and safe for our family. Sleepy Hollow Lake's waters are constantly tested. We have our own sewer system. We felt it was the best solution.
Sunsets from the deck; the ability to walk down a few steps and have a swim in a clean lake; a quiet read on the deck; a bike ride; a long walk; amazing lake views from every room.
We had such a wonderful time at Sleepy Hollow Lake! The house had absolutely everything we needed and then some. We have been to other rentals that only provided the bare bones and we found ourselves without a crucial ingredient for a recipe or activity - not the case in this home. We loved that they had so many things for our kiddos to do. Play room, movie collection, and supplies to make a fire for s'mores were some of our kiddos favorites. We enjoyed our time here in the winter, but are most certainly looking forward to returning in the summer to enjoy the lake! Thank you for helping us escape for the weekend!
This vacation home is perfect in every way. We stayed during a very hot, humid week in August and there is no place we'd rather have been. We brought lots of floats and spent every day in the lake from 9am until 5pm. The kids loved jumping off the dock, looking for unique rocks and going out in the kayaks. We ate all meals up on the deck looking at the beautiful lake and evenings were spent in the gazebo. And to top it off, the house was so beautiful and refreshing after long days outside. The views are incredible, from every window! We will definitely be going back. Thank you Arlene for sharing your beautiful home with us, we had an amazing week!
We keep coming back to this lovely home since it gives you all you need for a great vacation. The lake right outside your door and numerous restaurants and attractions all within a small drive. The lake is quiet and relaxing and beautiful in the mornings.
This year we used the community pools and beach also and they were a big hit with everyone.
My dog also has a great vacation getting to take long walks with deer and rabbits which he thinks are his friends. They are everywhere and come close but not so close you worry about safety.
The house is well stocked with anything you would need to enjoy your stay and the fresh fruits and vegetables just a mile or so away are very good.
Arlene is wonderful and always goes out of her way to ensure you have a great trip.
I would highly recommend her home for your vacation choice.
Another family and I looked at several properties on HomeAway and chose this one based on photos and descriptions. It seemed the most kid-friendly and comfortable. So four adults and four kids ages 5 to 11 spent 3 nights and four days up in the Catskills and we concur with other reviewers. It was great getting to see the up and coming town of Athens (Hudson beware!) and getting to know the Catskills side better, being more familiar with the Berkshires. One thing that other reviewers fail to mention, which is a real selling point, is the great collection of adult and kid DVDs and Netflix. This made evening entertainment all the easier, plus Arlene left us some complimentary Newman's Own popcorn to go with the movies!
We spent a lovely long weekend at this lakefront house. It was bright and cheerful, with all the comforts of home!
We had such a lovely stay at Arlene's home. The tranquility of relaxing on this beautiful property with the fresh breezes coming off the beautiful and peaceful lake was just what we all needed. Everything about our stay was welcoming. The homeowner Arlene is so wonderful and friendly, John the caretaker greeted us at the house to show us around, the kitchen has anything and everything you need, the bedrooms are cozy with views of the lake from every room and the house is so well kept, private, spacious and comfortable. The town of Athens is small yet has a wonderful brew pub called Crossroads and the Riverside Diner has hearty breakfasts. The town of Hudson is close by and has quaint stores and we had a wonderful lunch at Miss Lucy's restaurant and another nice pub called the Spotty Dog and a fine dinner at Ca'Mea.
Thank you Arlene for a wonderful stay and for letting us bring the whole family (including the animals) and for our welcome basket. We hope to see you again soon!
