Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cabin in Long Lake - Camp Ava

3 Bedroom, 2 Bathrooms, Boat Access Only Lakefront Property

Boat is mandatory to access this property. This is not road accessible. Boat rentals are available at the Long Lake Marina 518.624.2266, Burke's Marine in Raquette Lake (they will deliver to the Long Lake State Boat Launch) Call 315-354-4623, or bring your own.

This property is located in the Adirondack Park, on the northend of Long Lake, NY. This Adirondack style 'camp' offers docking, private beach, and a view of Buck Mountain and Long Lake.

Check in is firmly at 3pm.

Travel time from town is approx 15-20 minutes travel time with a 75 HP motor. Boat is only way to access this beautiful, serene, relaxing, vacation property on the pristine north end of Long Lake. Car parking is available in town along Dock Road near the Long Lake Marina, we advise you load in at the Long Lake Town Dock.

The property owners will escort you down the lake upon request, but it must be arranged in advance. We ask that large parties have a proper sized boat, because the owners have limited time for check in.

Of note: There is no electricity on the property. All lighting, kitchen equipment and hot water operate with propane. Think camping with comfort!

The property boasts sprawling decks and a screened in porch with dining area. Docking for two boats and a private beach. Great for young children to learn how to swim, and fish. Gorgeous sunsets.

Constructed in 2002, the property is an angler's delight with uncrowded, quiet fishing spots galore. Outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of hiking trails, paddling expeditions, and fishing galore. Watch and listen for loons and owls, spot majestic bald eagles in their natural habitat and other boreal birds in this IBA. Important Bird Area designated by the Audubon Society.

Renters are reminded that we are in the Adirondacks, surrounded by mother nature. Be prepared as any good camper would be. Use caution, common sense and be aware of your surroundings. Sometimes it take a few days to get a plumber, but rest assured, this property is unique and worth some minor inconveniences. Bring flashlights and battery operated lanterns. Keep garbage covered and indoors. A dumpster for recycling and garbage is available at the Long Lake Town Dock. If you carry it in, carry it out.

This is a "what you see is what you get property rental." All renters are required and responsible for cleaning the cabin. We request that you leave the cottage in as clean a condition as you found it for our next guest. The camp should be as clean as when you arrived..ie no dirty dishes in the sink, no garbage and please clean out the fridge.

Bedrooms: We have a total of 5 beds which can sleep a max of 8 people.

Bedroom 1: Downstairs bedroom has a DOUBLE bed.

Bedroom 2: Upstairs. Double Bed and Single.

Bedroom 3: Upstairs/Master: Queen size bed with mattress topper & single.

There is a propane grill on the backporch.

We have a shower/bathtub and hot water. Water is "gravity fed" therefore do not expect high-powered water pressure.

We have a small rocky beach and a boat dock for swimming, sunning and relaxing.

Campfires are to be on the beach only. All fires must be put out when not attended.

No electricity. Lighting is operated with propane. We ask that if you are not using a space, do not leave the lights on. Conserve propane and water as much as possible.

This is a camp located along a lake, in the middle of the woods seven miles from town. As it is a "camp" and not a modern home, there are seasons when insects and mice can be problematic. It is recommended that all food be put away nightly, do not leave anything out on counters and no food allowed in the bedrooms. Be aware an Adirondack Camp experience is not for everyone. The owners do their best to prevent pesky creatures from getting in, but there is no guarantee.

No linens are provided. Pillows, blankets and quilts are provided.

Bring your own paper towels, soap, tissues, toilet paper, garbage bags (clear or white) Seasonings for cooking, cleaning products.

If the grill runs out of propane it can be filled in town.

We do not provide maid service. You must provide all linens, towels and mattress pads.

Linen rentals are available upon request.

About Vickie Sandiford

This property has been in our family for many generations and our available property was built in 2002. We call it Camp Ava because it's Abbie, Vickie and Alex. Camp is home away from home and we want you to love it as much as we do. Countless summer memories on the paddle boat, climbing mountains, fishing, skipping rocks, climbing the rocks along the shore line, napping in the hammock, playing games and singing by the campfire at night.

Vickie Sandiford purchased this cabin in 1959

Why Vickie Sandiford chose Adirondacks

We've summered on this property for generations. The peaceful sunsets, the call of the loon, the escape from urban living. We learned to swim and fish and cook out and make smores at the campfire.

What makes this cabin unique

If you are truly looking for a getaway, this is the place. The closest neighbors are nearby, but not visible from our property.

We truly enjoyed our week at the camp. Its very spacious and comfortable. We are a family of 7 and we brought our 3 dogs. Everyone had a great time! Spent most of our hours relaxing on the dock on the water! Lots of loons around! Highly recommend.

A great spot in the wilderness...

  • 5 of 5

This property is an incredible getaway . The house is located at one of the widest and deepest points of the lake, and if you like nature and are looking to get away from the rest of world, this is your spot. It has beautiful views and probably the best viewing deck on the lake for sunset. The property does not have electricity but who could tell with the wonderful set up of propane lamps throughout the house.

What a sunset!

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to get away and that we did! What a great place. Dining on the screened porch in the wild was delightful. The rooms are spacious and beds comfortable. The kitchen is bigger than the one we have at home and in great condition. We brought a cooler for drinks. The refrigerator is small, but sufficient for food. Dogs are welcome and it was great to be able to bring ours. We will be back! The Northville Placid Trail is 5 minutes from the camp which was great for day hikes.

Never stayed in a such a dirty house, inn, B&B or Hotel

  • 1 of 5

The house looks nothing like the photos. The place appeared to never be cleaned. You don't even want to think about laying or sitting on any upholstered furniture. The cot had a mouse nest in it and the mattresses were absolutely filthy!Mice were everywhere.Too bad because it could be a beautiful place but I just can't understand how anyone could live with such filth.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review our private vacation rental. We truly value the opinions of our guests. We do our best to be forthright in our description of the property. We have addressed this particular issue as best we could, considering Mother Nature's involvement. Our location is located in the heart of the Adirondacks, surrounded by woods, water and forest. The Adirondacks is a 6 million acre park, boasting private and public land and it is truly a unique vacation experience. . This is a house, on a lake, in the woods, boat access only. It is for visitors with passion for the great outdoors and memorable vacation time. We feel disheartened that your memories are not what you had hoped to achieve with your family. Personal relationships and quality service has always been our mission. We have addressed the cleanliness issue. We are now in our fifth year of renting, our third year on VRBO and we want you to know that we truly enjoy sharing our passion for our destination with visitors and want you to walk out the door feeling rested and dreaming about a return. You must have your own boat to use this property. Property is located adjacent to the Adirondack Park Forest preserve and the Northville-Lake Placid Trail. Great for family reunions, getting away from it all and enjoying outdoor recreational opportunities. There is no electricity on the property. Users must pump water using a Honda Water Pump, provided by the owners. It pumps to a tank. Water tank will be filled upon arrival to a tank. If water gets low, guests are asked to fill it. Usually once a week is fine, but depends on how often you shower. The water is gravity fed from a tank. Do not operate the water pump without instruction.
