Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday townhome in Cobble Hill - Cobble Hill Town House

2 floor 3 bath with a garden. Sleeps 7 easily.

Bienvenue à Cobble Hill, one of New York City's most European-feeling enclaves. Our custom-appointed, 19th-century brownstone is surrounded by a neighborhood that is both quaint—this is a landmarked historical district of townhouses, trees and parks—and vibrant, with new artisan boutiques, restaurants, coffeeshops and bars sprouting up seemingly every day. In one direction, you have famous Smith Street, with its nightlife and scene-making, in the other, the stunning, harborside Brooklyn Bridge Park, with its green spaces for walking, biking or lolling about, its ferry to Governor's Island, Sunday food-fair and jaw-dropping views of the Manhattan skyline. Manhattan itself is an eight-minute walk to the subway and two stops away—or an easy stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge.

Our home is the extensively-renovated owners' duplex of our brownstone townhouse, offering two big, high-ceilinged bedrooms upstairs, with a third bedroom possibility in the downstairs sunroom. There are three full, custom-tiled bathrooms, a cook's kitchen with stainless-steel Viking appliances and a leafy, private garden that feels miles away from the city.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our family (couple, and two teenagers) stayed at this wonderful Brownstone in Cobble Hill. The sleeping quarters are fantastic: queen for a couple in one room, a bunk bed with a double on the bottom and single on the top, and a pull out couch in the bump out room on the main level. The air conditioning kept us all comfortable in the evening. The kitchen has everything you need, but let's be serious, Brooklyn has some great restaurants that are within walking distance of this residence: Al di la, Northern Italian food inPark Slope on 5th/Caroll street, Frankie's on Court street, Farmacy an old time soda ice cream joint and a fantastic pizza joint three blocks south on Henry Street all within easy walking distance. Truly a Foodie's heaven. Who needs to go eat in Manhattan? Easy to find parking if you drive in from out of town. If you want to explore using the car, the i278 is close by (3-4 minutes and you are in Battery Park). Alternatively, leave the car stationary and jump on the F train (5 minute walk away) and get up to Museum row, Central Park, Theatre District, Midtown, Soho, Little Italy, Wall Street so easily. The area this place is located is extremely safe. Gentrification has taken place; so many young families with children. Walking around is very safe. Very little noise at night for sleeping.

We had breakfast every morning at the home during our stay, often in their quaint and private backyard. You don't even feel like you are in such a vibrant city. As the earlier review stated, spent the day exploring Manhattan and came home at night enjoyed brilliant nights in Brooklyn. A perfect base for our seven day stay to take in just a few things that the Big Apple has to offer.

Brooklyn gem

  • 5 of 5

Everything you imagined about a New York town house is exactly what you get here. Leafy tree lined streets within easy access of the subway with some nice restaurants in the locality. The house itself has some gorgeous antique pieces groaning with books you know you ought to read if the madness of New York wasn't calling you. Two lovely bedrooms with a third if you wish in the tv room. We travelled with two teenagers and our son preferred the basement where there is also a bed set up. Beautifully comfortable with three lovely bathrooms meant there were no arguments getting out in the morning! There is a really cute garden out back which was lovely for morning breakfast. The heat was too intense in late July later in the evening. Claire was so lovely to deal with and handled any questions really promptly. It's a lovely place to explore New York as you can escape back to this tranquil spot after a hectic day sightseeing. This is our second time in the Cobble Hill/Brooklyn Heights area and we wouldn't dream of booking anywhere else.

Wonderful house and location

  • 5 of 5

We found this townhouse when looking for airbnb or suite hotel options in the city, all of which were far more expensive and stuck near tourist traps (see: Times Square). This part of Brooklyn has a great neighborhood feel and is nicely located near the subway and Brooklyn bridge for easy access to anywhere you would like to go. The townhouse was very reasonably priced and provided much more space than the 4 of us needed and the amenities, especially the garden, were greatly appreciated.

The hosts were very accommodating and made our stay a treat. Truly a home away from home.

Best VBRO we've ever rented

  • 5 of 5

We use VBRO quite a bit because with 7 of us (2 parents 5 teens), renting a house is often more affordable and so much nicer than 2-3 hotel rooms. This is the best place I've ever found. I am so glad we decided to stay in Brooklyn for our family week in New York. The Cobble Hill neighborhood is quiet and charming neighborhood of old brownstones, felt safe at all hours we were out (through 10 pm) and showed the kids a whole different side of New York, giving them more of an idea what it is like to live in the city. We loved being able to walk for bagels, groceries and anything else we could need. The waterfront park (easy walk) is amazing with fantastic views of downtown and the Brooklyn Bridge, a must-visit. You can walk across the Brooklyn Bridge from there which is a great evening activity. This is a GREAT location.

The house too was so, so comfortable. We felt at home immediately. Crammed with books, wonderful to have basics in the house to just "replace if used," wonderful spacious rooms and beautifully decorated while still feeling homelike and comfortable. Good AC and wifi. Owners extremely nice. I felt like I should have brought a hostess gift, they were so welcoming.

And yes this suburban chick with a giant conversion van and virtually no parallel parking experience was able to park in the neighborhood. (Though there was often a space right in front of the house, I recommend parking on a quieter side street if your parallel parking process is, ahem, lengthy.) We were able to park for the week, move once for the street sweeper, and take the subway everywhere we wanted to go for sightseeing. Navigating transit is very easy with the help of Google maps. We used to live in CT 25 years ago and were so impressed with the changes in the city.

Fantastic for our family, highly recommend basing your New York sightseeing trip from here! Don't be scared Midwesterners! You will LOVE Cobble Hill - Brooklyn!

delightful, well appointed, elegant, spaceous

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have stayed on this block before and love the neighborhood. But we have never stayed in this beautiful of an large, two story, two bedroom apartment. The first floor main entrance leads to a large living room, which flows to a large dining room and on to the open kitchen. This pathway is the best to see the delightful garden out of the glass doors, which has a zen peacefulness about it, disappearing behind the building into a completely private sitting area.

There were five of us: grandma and grandpa, daughter, son-in-law, and twenty-two month old granddaughter. The house was perfect for us. In addition to everything else on the first floor I described, there also is a sun porch off the kitchen with a TV. This turned into the perfect play room for our granddaughter and an additional bed for mom and daughter on those nights when sleep was not on her agenda and dad had to get up for meetings in Manhattan, which, by the way, is easily accessible from a variety of trains from stations starting about half a mile away.

The bedrooms are upstairs; two of them; one a master suite, the other a kids room with bunk beds, but with a unique feature. The lower bed is a queen size, which again worked out well with the still nursing baby. The solid stairs must have a concrete base because there isn't squeak one going up and down the stairs.

The house is well appointed with wonderful books and appropriately whimsical art. The first day's puzzle was where is the light switch for the kitchen lights. Answer, under the cabinets on a hidden plug just to the right of the stove. There even is a third floor in the basement with an additional bed, if necessary, and washer and dryer.

Everyone in our family loved this house. It is kid friendly yet sophisticated. Our family will certainly stay here again if possible. The owner Claire was easy to work with.

Great family friendly 'home away from home!'

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 adults and 2 children had the most wonderful stay in Claire & Richard's townhouse. It is very close to shops, restaurants, cafes, subway and the waterfront. It was the perfect base for our stay in Brooklyn and for visiting NYC. We felt comfortable from the moment we walked through the door and there was plenty of space for family dinners and relaxing. It really was a home away from home! Claire called and made sure we were all happy, which was lovely and reassuring after a long plane ride! Our kids loved the backyard and put on the fairy lights every night which was beautiful! We would not hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend this beautiful townhouse. Thank you Claire and Richard :)

100% spectacular brooklyn home!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a lovely stay at this extremely cozy and very well appointed home on one of Brooklyn's most charming streets in Cobble Hill. Very convenient location accessible to anything/everything you can imagine in NYC. There is an adorable (quiet!) garden in the back where we enjoyed our daily morning coffee and evening cocktails. The bedrooms are quite comfortable and decorated beautifully. The kitchen is had everything we needed. I highly recommend this wonderful property! The homeowners, Claire and Richard, went above and beyond the call of duty to make our experience an enjoyable one. We can't wait to go back next spring!
