built, on five acres of natural VT beauty

Bedrooms 1
Space 500 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

You'll stay in a custom built, finely crafted tiny (384 sf + loft) house with high ceilings, large windows and lots of light, even a cupola. Modeled after a nineteenth century Vermont schoolhouse, the design is true to character - from the exposed beams to the square head nails in wide pine flooring - using the best of modern technology - built green with an on-demand water heater, propane heat and high end finishes with IKEA fixtures in the kitchen and bathroom.

Located on a quiet dirt road in the bucolic town of Cabot, your closest neighbors will be the ravens in the red pines, the chickadees in the cedars and a variety of other woodland creatures. Trails around the property will take you to a swimming pond and, another, to a quiet lake where you’ll have the use of two kayaks. The peace and quiet of Vermont’s rural living will restore your spirit and perhaps inspire you in your creative endeavors. You’ll be near some of Vermont’s best biking, hiking and sightseeing areas where a relaxing lifestyle and splendid green mountain vistas provide a backdrop to charming small towns to explore.

We travel much of the year and may or may not be in residence during your visit.

An upstairs space is accessible by circular stairway. The downstairs has a comfy futon, convertible for comfy sleeping.

You'll love being here if you like exploring Vermont's natural beauty - quiet except for the calls of the ravens, the early morning loon cries (the loon couple, surprisingly, makes occasional fly by) and the rushing wind in the maples.

Step out your back door to a private, expansive yard and enjoy all that Vermont has to offer. (A patio will be ready by early July.)

Wonderful paradise in the Vermont countryside

  • 5 of 5

Spent a week is this amazing tiny home and loved every minute. Small but spacious and perfect for the two of us to have a relaxing and disconnected week. 30 minutes outside of Montpelier so lots of food options and shopping options. Was very sad to leave this morning but will plan another trip in the future! Highly recommend!!!!!!

We just stayed at the cottage and had a wonderful time. We walked to the pond and drove into Cabot to see the small town. Peaceful and relaxing stay! Highly recommend for anyone wanting to have some quality time away from it all!

Sweet, airy cabin.

Enjoyed our weekend stay in this attractive, light, and airy cabin. Lovely surroundings and got to see a black bear who came to visit the yard.

Slice of paradise!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, doggies, and myself loved staying at Cynthia and Phillip's school house cottage for our summer vacation. We arrived much later than anticipated, and Phillip graciously helped us locate the home. The cottage was very clean, with fresh eggs and bread waiting for us in the the fridge. Delicious Vermont coffee was also provided. We enjoyed swimming in the spring fed pond, hiking to the lake for kayaking, grilling, and building a campfire. Our dogs loved running around in the yard. The location is so peaceful!!! We had to drive a bit to get to hikes and food, but the serenity of the property and the beautiful scenery on the way to our destinations was worth the driving. When we were there, the insects in Vermont were abundant. A screened in porch allowed us to enjoy being outside, without the hassle of insects. If you travel here in the summer, just bring repellent! Finally, Cynthia was very easy to contact when we had questions, and got back to us right away. All in all, we had a fabulous vacation in Vermont at this property. I cried when we had to leave! We look forward to returning here someday.
