Shelter Cove Cottage is a secluded and privately owned custom 3 bedroom, 2 bath vacation home nestled among large native pine trees with stunning, majestic views of the Pacific Ocean. The Great Room, with its “wall” of windows, along with the dining room and Master Bedroom, have magnificent views incorporating the Port Orford Heads State Park and historic Cape Blanco Lighthouse, two Oregon State treasures. Built with a combined feel of both New American and Ranch Style architecture, Shelter Cove Cottage offers a quaint and charming home-away-from-home atmosphere. The large, newly renovated kitchen is fully equipped with cookware, utensils, dinnerware and linens for your dining-in pleasure.

The illuminating night views of the Cape Blanco Lighthouse and the sound of the ocean can’t help but create a romantic setting during winter months. Perhaps a leisurely day of lounging on the deck, taking in the refreshing and clean salt air while listening to the sounds of the ocean waves and the wind in the trees is the ticket to ensuring an atmosphere of rest and relaxation. Shelter Cove also offers high speed internet, cable TV with DVD player, and a telescope for whale watching and stargazing.  

For the adventurous spirit, there is a large garden with pathways to explore and direct access to Agate Beach State Park, where searching for agates may very well lead to viewing whales at play. Shelter Cove is also a bike friendly lodging facility for the avid cyclist in need of a place to rest, relax and recharge before continuing his or her journey along the Southern Oregon Coast.

If vacationing with children or grandchildren, daytime adventures bound to delight can be found at the South Coast Game Park, located approximately 19 miles north, and the Prehistoric Gardens, located approximately 13 miles south.  As Agate Beach is just a hop, skip and jump from Shelter Cove’s back door, agate hunting or just a simple fun day in the sun building sandcastles on the beach may be in order.  

There are several places of interest in the city and only a short distance from the quiet and peaceful seclusion of Shelter Cove. Port Orford has several art galleries owned and operated by local artists who contribute their own sense of creativity and charm.  Port Orford residents, visitors and tourists are fortunate to have our very own Food Co-Operative (open year round) and Saturday Farmer’s Market (June to September), both featuring locally grown produce, baked goods and a variety of artisan wears.  Several eating establishments are located within the same area, offering their own specialty items, including homemade bread, muffins and delicious gourmet imported salami’s and cheeses.

~ PORT ORFORD, OREGON ~

Located along the Southern Oregon Coast, Port Orford is where the ocean breeze meets the forest trees. Travelers, whether for business or leisure, visit Port Orford's quaint and pristine small fishing village to Rest, Relax and Recharge. The quiet solitude and picturesque surroundings allow an atmosphere of serenity, thereby creating the opportunity for revitalization to all who visit.

For the explorer, Port Orford offers adventure by providing several historical points of interest. The port of Port Orford is the most unique dock in Oregon as it operates one of only two dolly docks located within the United States. For those unaware of the dolly dock principle, Port Orford’s commercial fisherman are only able to enter the water via crane, making for a fascinating afternoon watch.

Visible from 22 miles off shore, the Cape Blanco Lighthouse, a Port Orford treasure, is considered the furthest most westerly point within in the continental United States. Built in 1870, Cape Blanco still guides fisherman, sailors and boating enthusiasts safely to shore. The location of Shelter Cove Cottage presents a one-of-a-kind experience, not only due to the daily breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean but due to the ability to see the Cape Blanco Lighthouse in the distance as it lights up the Pacific Northwest coastline.

Nearby is the beautifully restored Victorian Hughes House Museum built in 1898, which became a member of the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and provides an inside look at Port Orford's historical and humble beginnings. The Lifeboat Station Museum, featuring a restored Coast Guard Station, shipwreck memorabilia, and many artifacts from the years when the Coast Guard Station was providing services to ships, is rich in historical information relating to World War II.

For a little bit of culture, there are several art galleries owned and operated by local artists who contribute their own whimsical sense of creativity and charm. Other crafty residents with their own unique artistic flare can be found at our very own Saturday Farmer’s Market from 9:00 am to noon, which also offers an array of baked goods, fresh and locally grown organic produce, pottery, jewelry and other keepsake mementos that are sure to delight. Around the corner is Port Orford’s very own “CommUnity” Co-Op, featuring organic produce, a variety of organic bulk food products, locally caught seafood and locally raised beef. Port Orford also has a wonderful, fully stocked quilt shop that offers quilting classes for all skill levels.

On February 18, 2010, the Common Council of the City of Port Orford added a “Dark Sky” Ordinance (No. 367-87), limiting “…outdoor lighting used for residential, commercial (and) public areas” in order to reduce light pollution and enhance our pristine night’s sky. Port Orford is the first city in Oregon to implement such an ordinance and one of the many fascinating, unique and innovate features that make Port Orford a great place to visit.

On May 17, 2012, a portion of the city of was deemed a “Community Stewardship Area” or “Natural Resources Inventory” (“Stewardship”) via an amendment to the “Comprehensive Plan Inventory” initially adopted July 20, 2005. The Stewardship is a “biologically diverse” area spanning 1,320 square miles and encompassing “…terrestrial, freshwater, intertidal, and ocean environments,” created to protect Port Orford’s natural habitat. The City of Port Orford, in conjunction with our local Port Orford Ocean Resources Team and the Pacific Marine Conservation Council, created the amendment to assist in the preservation of wildlife and, in turn, future sustainability for Port Orford inhabitants.

What an amazing place!

We couldn't have asked for a nicer place to spend a week in Port Orford. It was a beautiful house with a spectacular view of the ocean. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen well stocked. It was at the end of the road so it was very quiet. My husband really loved the garage parking.

The location was perfect. We loved the beach access and how close it was to a number of wonderful restaurants. It is a pleasant walk up to the Heads.

Kimberley, our host, was terrific. We really appreciated the welcome.

This home would be a great place for a romantic getaway, for two couples traveling together or a family.

Lovely view of the ocean

The house is modern and very comfortable. The kitchen is well appointed.

The dining room table is rather small for five people. The ocean view from the living room is hampered by the fireplace being right in the middle. All in all we had a lovely time.

Perfect place for a family getaway!

Our visit to Shelter Cove was wonderful! Kimberley was helpful from answering questions prior to booking to helping us with an early check in. The house was spacious, private setting, clean and host a well equipped kitchen. The views are speculator from mutilple areas in the house and deck. The ocean is just a short walk from the house. During our stay we experienced very high winds, but still had a memorialable family vacation. Highly recommend Shelter Cove!

SHELTER COVE COTTAGE is a Privately Owned Vacation Home, which does not accept reservations without at least 24-hours prior notice.

~ CANCELLATION POLICY ~
Payments (less a $150.00 Reservation Processing Fee AND any incurred transaction fees) are fully refundable up to 30-Days prior to Guests arrival. Reservations made after the 30-day period are non-refundable ~ no exception!

As this is a PRIVATELY OWNED VACATION HOME, please be sure to plan your trip well in advance. If you cancel before the 30-Day period, there is possibility of re-renting the Vacation Unit. If you cancel after the 30-Day period, especially during Holidays and Peak Season, the chances of another opportunity for a paid reservation during the same duration are slim to none.

Shelter Cove Cottage's occupancy is specifically LIMITED to the MAXIMUM number of 5 people designated at any time during Guests stay. Failure to report actual number of Guests prior to arrival will result in forfeiture of the Property Damage Deposit of $ 300.00. If number of Guests exceeds Maximum limit of 5, Guests will be asked to vacate immediately and all monies paid will be forfeited.

~ SMOKING POLICY ~
Shelter Cove Cottage is an entirely non-smoking facility. Evidence to the contrary will result in forfeiture of the entire Security/Property Damage Deposit of $ 300.00.

~ HOUSE RULES ~
Seaside Enterprises ~ Port Orford and the Homeowners trust Shelter Cove Cottage Guests will be respectful by leaving the home in the condition in which it was found upon arrival, requiring only "normal" cleaning. Additionally, furniture should not be moved from its preset location. There is a $30.00 per hour (one hour minimum) charge to return furniture back to its proper location.
