Historic House (circa 1901) in East Hill - 9 mi. to Beach, 3 mi. to downtown.

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,980 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

2000 Sq.Ft. 2 bedroom/2 bath + bonus rm. Large porch & deck. Covered parking.

This large (2000 SF) updated Creole style home built in 1901 is one of the oldest houses in historic East Hill; large, spacious rooms with 12’ high ceilings on a large lot with covered parking. Centrally located: 15 min to beach, 5 to downtown, 20 to NAS. Sleeps 7 – has 2 bedrooms (each with plush Euro pillow-top queen sized beds) and a large bonus room which has a comfortable double futon and a single day bed. Two full baths. There is a huge great room (which was added to the original house) with an adjoining kitchen separated by a sitting bar which leads outside onto a raised back deck. Desk work space provided as well. There is a very nice screened in front porch with rocking chairs and bench swing. The house has 1980 square feet of climate controlled area plus a huge back deck and screened in front porch as well as utility room.

- Centrally located near downtown Pensacola (2 to 3 miles away), Pensacola Beach (8 mi away), Cordova Mall (4 mi), NAS base (8 mi), Pensacola Airport (4 mi). There are restaurants within walking distance (7 blocks).

-Downtown Pensacola has been revitalized and offers a wide assortment of entertainment, eateries and special events (e.g. monthly Gallery nights, several concert venues, art shows, Mardi Gras parades), various art shows, as well as the new Blue Wahoos Stadium.

- Perfect for families on vacation; attending family weddings, graduations, visiting; business travelers wanting room for their families with them; people relocating into the area. For those on official military orders (I would need copies) the bed tax can be deleted.

- East Hill is a quiet neighborhood with many parks – the closest park (Toledo Square) is only 2 houses away and has an extensive children playground. The much larger Bay View Park on Bayou Texar is only 3 blocks away and includes tennis courts, boat launches, and a dock. The neighborhood is popular with bicyclist and runners alike.

- Fully modern (WIFI, central HVAC, dishwasher, microwave, washer/dryer) yet preserves the historic nature with original wood floors, 12 foot high ceilings and plaster walls. It is outfitted with many timely furnishings but has all the modern conveniences such as WIFI, 48” HDTV (plus 28” in the master bedroom), cable with ESPN and ceiling fans throughout.

- The front porch is a great place to relax next to a majestic heritage live oak tree, and if you want some privacy the large back deck with a gas grill and picnic table and benches is perfect for cookouts.

- There is covered parking for two vehicles with up to two more off-street parking as well.

About Jon Loesch

We bought this home and lived there until my job with the Navy transferred me to Orlando in 2004. Not able to part with the home we rented it out through 2013 on a long term rental basis and converted it to short term rental in 5/2014.

Jon Loesch purchased this house in 1996

Why Jon Loesch chose Pensacola

We love this area of town - East Hill - being very quaint and convenient to everything Pensacola has to offer. We enjoy the local parks and proximity to both the beach and historic downtown.

What makes this house unique

With 12 foot ceilings you won't feel closed up in this home - the great room is a huge gathering area adjoining the kitchen and the back deck. Enjoy the rocking chairs (or the swing) on the front porch looking out onto a huge live oak in front of the house....or....enjoy the large raised back deck with grill and picnic table. Walk to nearby restaurants, parks, or along the waterfront of Bayview Park.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Really enjoyed our visit - beds were comfy, house not far from beach, shopping, the Navy base - we were lucky and hit a Gallery Night downtown - lots of fun! Enjoyed seeing the neighbors black and white cat sleeping on the porch rail.

Would definitely stay again. Also enjoyed the porch swing and live oak in the front yard.

Great place - thanks for sharing your home :) we have great memories.

Our home away from home.

My family and I enjoyed our stay here. It started with an approval phone call and instructional emails from Mr. Loesch, who was very professional and nice. ( Go LSU) The location was great and easy to find. Right up from Publix grocery store, several eating places, and other stores. The yard was nicely manicured. The porch needed to be swept, but it was still so cute with the mini rocking chairs and a swing. As you enter the house there is an inviting atmosphere. The bedrooms and the house were quite spacious and I loved the closet space. The kitchen was small, but nice, which made it quick and easy to clean. Lastly, we had an awesome welcome and goodbye by Ms. Victoria and a visit from a friendly raccoon every night. Well, I told you my likes, so here are my dislikes. The bathrooms did not have locks. and the sliding doors had no curtains, however, some people may like that.

Even though there may have been some dislikes, our overall stay was wonderful and we would recommend this property to anyone who would like a down-home, cozy place to vacation. Be blessed and we hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did.

Quiet, peaceful, and comfortable historic house. Great location.

  • 5 of 5

Great central location on quiet residential street only half a block away from a very nice city park. Thoughtfully supplied - even had laundry detergent and basic pantry supplies like coffee and spices etc. The back deck is awesome, and overlooks a private fenced back yard, and the screened front porch is a nice place to sit. Very comfy house with a nice very large family room off the nicely equipped, functional, but quirky kitchen. BUT really just a 2 bedroom house as the "third" bedroom is the original living room and has no door or curtains to screen it off from the rest of the house (but you can enter the house through the family room from the back deck ). This is NOT a flashy modern home BUT my family and I were comfortable there. It is quiet and peaceful. The owner was very prompt to respond with the booking and any questions we had.We enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful little place in a wonderful area

  • 4 of 5

This was a two-bedroom two-bath little home in East Hill. There was also a front room with a futon and bed which would have been perfect for smaller kids. We spent three days here for my daughter's wedding ceremony and it was perfect. The place is incredibly clean and also well stocked. Fine quality towels which is always nice. We especially loved the screened front porch and the large back deck. Perfect for gathering with our family. This is by no means a luxurious home but it is spacious, comfortable, clean and well outfitted house

I Didn't Want To Leave

  • 5 of 5

This property is even better than the pictures and descriptions. We booked it to be a mile from our daughter's home while in town for our son-in-law's winging ceremony. Best decision ever to stay here with my husband and aunt instead of in a hotel or place at the beach. From the moment I opened the door it was as if I had stepped back to happy times of visiting my grandmother's house. Everything about this property spoke home, comfort, organization and love. It is in a nice, established part of Pensacola with easy access to the airport, shopping, downtown, and restaurants. I appreciated how immaculately clean the whole house was. The carefully chosen amenities were better than experienced at other VRBOs. Beds were very comfortable. Bathrooms were perfectly updated to 2016 standards. The kitchen had everything you needed and more. The swing on the screened in porch was a delight. Walking through the neighborhood was fun too. Sidewalks were on both sides of the street. People were friendly. Old oak and magnolia trees were spectacular. I would recommend this wonderful property to people of all ages, but especially to those who want a true feeling of home away from home.

Pensacola beach (8 mi. away) always ranks as one of the best beaches in the country – sugar white sand and warm clear water on Santa Rosa Island. Numerous special events during the year – Mardi Gras, Blue Angel air show, 4th of July fireworks, along with weekly “Bands on the Beach” free concerts on the beach boardwalk. Quiet water beach is on the sound side (north side of Santa Rosa Island) with its own boardwalk with shops and restaurants.

-- Available nearby are: golfing (see below); Deep Sea Fishing Charters; parasailing; jet ski rentals; canoeing / tubing (Adventures Unlimited, Bob’s Canoe Rentals).

-- Pensacola Bay Area Convention and Visitor Bureau at the foot of Three Mile Bridge (1.1 mi.) is a good place to visit to acquaint yourself with the area.

-- Fort Pickens, part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, is located just to the west of Pensacola beach, dates to pre-civil war. In addition to being a great place for outdoor activities like bicycling, swimming, snorkeling, fishing, hiking, beach combing, bird watching, and boating, you can visit numerous gun batteries at one of the largest brick works in the world. It was one of only four forts in the South that was never occupied by Confederate forces during the Civil War and was just as important as Ft. Sumter.

-- The Naval Air museum is one of the most visited museum in Florida and is the world’s largest Naval Aviation museum. This free museum encompasses over 350,000 sq.ft. of exhibit space on 37 acres and has aircraft from the earliest to the latest flight technology as well as NASA exhibits. The museum is located at Naval Air Station Pensacola, just 10.6 miles away. If you visit while the Blue Angels are practicing you’ll be in for a real treat. Also available are Imax cinemas and flight simulators.

-- Downtown has come alive in recent years –Palafox Street has an active night life with numerous eateries and entertainment venues as well as numerous festivals, monthly Gallery Nights and weekly (Sat AM) arts and crafts show. Just 3 miles from the house.

-- There are two nearby golf courses: Marcus Point Golf Course is 8.2 mi. distance and Tiger Point Golf Course is 11.5 mi.

-- Take a 50 minute narrated tour of the historic area of Downtown Pensacola, the 'City of Five Flags'. You will hear about the first settlement of 1559 followed by permanent colonization in 1698. The trolley leaves from the Pensacola Visitor's Center at the foot of Three Mile Bridge just 1 mile from the house.
