About the property

Self catering country house in large gardens.

The house stands in an acre of ground which slopes down to two streams in a wooded valley. It is a peaceful location for a restful holiday, ideal for nature lovers and bird watchers. it is built around a vine-shaded courtyard and there are fruit trees and olive trees in the garden. The pool is 8x4m. Indoors the rooms are comfortably furnished and the kitchen well equipped. The living room has seating for 11, and the dining table extends to seat twelve.

The terrace is furnished for al fresco eating and has a gas barbecue.

Children will enjoy exploring the woods around the streams and there are a variety of indoor and outdoor games, including table tennis.

The lake at Iznajar has a beach with bar and restaurant about 10 minutes drive away..

We have provided a library of books of local interest, and a supply of holiday reading.

Television has UK channels and DVD player.

A local English speaking manager is on hand to welcome and assist guests.

About Maggie Proom

Phil and I have lived in the Chipping Sodbury area for 33 years. Our two offspring are now grown up and settled down with their partners in Bristol and we have one granddaughter. I am retired and Phil partly retired. We have a young golden retriever, who certainly keeps us active. I have a wonderful hobby of barbershop singing, and Phil's main interest is anything with 4 wheels and an engine.

Why Maggie Proom chose Iznájar

We had originally intended to buy an apartment on the coast, but when that did not materialise, we decided to look for a larger house, inland, where we could retire. We chose the area because of the convenience of Malaga airport,as several airlines fly there from Bristol. A company called Property Finders showed us several houses in the area, and we fell for this one, mainly because of it's delightful setting. We were still working at the time and came out for regular holidays and weekends. We had not intended to have such a large house, but it has been the venue for many happy times with groups of friends and family as well a our offspring with groups of their friends.

Family ties and other commitments changed our intentions regarding retiring here, but we are able to spend more and longer times here.

What makes this house unique

The setting of the house on about an acre of land, above the valleys of two streams, is idyllic. From the verandah, or the pool terrace, there is not another inhabited building in sight, just a couple of ruins on the opposite hillside. We love the birdsong, the sound of the streams, the feeling of history in this old house, where the walls are several feet thick, the beams are just tree trunks. We can picture the mule threshing the grain in the threshing circle in front of the house (unfortunately covered now), the hams hanging on the hooks in what is now the lounge.

To watch the rabbits and hares on the hill opposite while we have our morning swim is just the best way to start the day!

There are parts of the garden which slope steeply to the stream, so we would not recommend bringing mobile children under about 7.

Fantastisch mooie vakantie.

We hebben een mooie vakantie gehad met 12 mensen, de hele familie. De buitenruimte is zo lekker groot dat we alleen savonds, als het te koud werd, binnen zaten. Het zwembad is subliem, lekker diep. Het huis is totaal niet gehorig. Hottub is een heerlijke toevoeging. De keuken is van alle gemakken voorzien. Viv is een geweldige hulp en manager. Omdat de winkels op de aankomstdag dicht waren, heeft ze voor ons de eerste boodschappen gedaan.

Cordoba, Granade, Malaga en Sevilla zijn goed aan te rijden.


We have had a nice holiday with 12 people, the whole family. The outdoor area is so large that we only sat in the house at night, when it was too cold outside. The house is very quiet. YOu can easily sleep while the others are awake and busy.... The swimming pool is sublime, nice and deep. Hot tub is a wonderful addition. The kitchen is fully equipped. Viv is a great help and manager. Because the shops were close on the day of arrival, she has for us the first shopping done. Cordoba, Granade, Malaga and Seville are good to drive.

We tried to hit the noisy dogs but we failed ; ))

Wonderful holidays

The house is very well equipped, quiet and very clean. The geographical location allows to visit Cordoba, Granada, Seville and explore many small charming town and village.

We spent a magical week at "La casa del abuelo"...the time has stopped.

Traditional Spanish farmhouse

Perfect for a weeks get away from it all lovely rural setting but not to far away from bars and restaurants and supermarkets 10 min car ride . Well equipped plenty of sun beds crockery etc . Had a lovely week viv the caretaker very helpful only one thing to moan about which is not the owners fault the constant bark of the dogs up the road but apart from them lovely time had by all Thankyou A

A fabulous place for August in Andalucia

The Casa del Abuelo hosted us for a one-week stay in August 2010. We were 10 in all (2 grandparents, 4 parents and 4 children) and enjoyed our stay very much. The pool and jacuzzi, reclining chairs and ping-pong table were excellent amenities. The screens on the windows and fans were useful. We liked the way that the night and day spaces were separated and articulated around a picturesque courtyard. The house is Ideally situated for a quiet get away in the middle of the countryside (great for star-gazing) and allows for easy visits to Cordoba and Granada. This house is an integral part of our very fond memories of Andalucia.

Very nice house

Une maison très bien équipée et agréable à vivre. Nous recommandons particulièrement le bar du village pour la qualité du service et des produits, justifiant les prix supérieurs à la "normale espagnole".

Nous avons malheureusement échoué à faire taire les chiens bruyants des voisins.

Les espaces extérieurs sont très agréables.

Car: necessary

The streams which run at the end of the garden run into the lake at Iznajar, about 6km distant. The lake has a sandy beach with a bar and water sports. The hiilside town of Iznajar has charming narrow streets and is crowned by a Moorish Alcazabar. The surrounding hills and valleys are covered in olive groves, making this a beautiful area.

Our village of Fuente del Conde is 2km distant and has an excellent bar serving food and a supermarket. About 4km is Villanueva de Tapia where there are banks and small food shops and a weekly market.

Granada is about 1hrs drive away, Cordoba 1hr 30m and Seville 2hrs, all musts to visit.

Antequera, about 30 mins drive provides more varied shopping, an excellent golf course and historic churches, alcazabar and ancient dolmens. El Torcal close by is a natural park of limestone rocks with abundant wildlife.
