Janette Meppen purchased this bungalow in 2013
We have close family in the Adirondacks. Our permanant resdence is 3 hours from our close family members. Our frequent travel 'Back Home' warranted the purchase of this home. We knew that we had to have the best views in the nicest area of the Adirondacks so we chose this home!!
Enjoy the modern ammentities of this home, kayaks, paddle boards hot tub and much more!!
A couple months ago we booked a house in New Hampshire. We had family in town from the UK who were on a very tight schedule. With less than 24 hours' notice the owner of the New Hampshire property canceled! We started scouring VRBO for options and came across Janette's house. We needed a fast answer on the availability and Janette responded very quickly. Initially the house could not be ready the next day as it needed cleaning but after explaining our situation Janette was able to get her back-up cleaner to get the house ready for us. She literally saved the day!
We all loved the house. It is clean and well-appointed with amazing views of Lake Champlain. It has everything you need. The hot tub was a nice feature that we all enjoyed. We would love to stay there again in the future.
We had a great time! We enjoyed the house, hot tub, kayaks, and paddle boards. It was the first time we came to Lake Chaplain and we found a wide variety of activities. We may want to come back next year for everything we didn't have time for.
Beautiful home , in a great area with tons of activities for us and the kids.
We highly recommend going to this property
We spent a week at the house with our daughter her husband and our teenage grand Children. The house is very nice and well decorated. We had a wonderful time just enjoying a cottage by the lake, relaxing, some kayaking, Stand up paddle board , fishing and ending the evening in the hot tub. On Thursday we approach the neighbour who as a boat with a water board. My granddaughter of 17 wanted to try out the water board and for a small fee the neighbour gave a lesson and she successfully went water boarding.
I want to thank the owner Jeannette for renting us there house by the lake and I would highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for quiet and peaceful surrounding by the lake.
This was our first foray into the Adirondacks and I feel fortunate we selected this property as our temporary home base. It is well situated to offer a range of activities to take in during your stay. For the urban needs, you are a short drive and ferry ride from bustling Burlington, VT. For the adventurous outdoorsy inclined, its an even shorter drive to hike Poke-O-Moonshine mountain to its summit. There are several other nearby attractions that you should take in; the Ausable Brewery, Clover Mead Cafe, and Ausable Chasm were all enjoyable.
Even if you went nowhere, you will still enjoy the onsite activities this property has to offer. The 100' of waterfront offered fun for us, our dogs, and our teenagers. You owe it to yourself to wake early enough to see at least one sunrise over the lake. Our Jack Russell terriers greatly enjoyed the constant antics of the local chipmunk and squirrel population [during daylight hours, that is]. We made good use of the kayaks, paddleboards, and tubes on several days. Our kids completed the "Schuyler Island Challenge" as we called it, a 3 mile one way kayak trip to the island looming off shore. The inviting fire ring demanded several nighttime fires for s'mores making and family bonding and we were happy to comply. Be prepared to take in the loon and haunting whippoorwill calls as sun sets. The railway rumblings were inconsequential, by the way.
As our stay was early in the season the lake was quite cold [56 degrees]. This was more than offset by the 100 degree water in the bubbling hot tub right outside the lower level. The hot tub was also very welcome to soothe tired muscles after hiking local mountains and chasms.
The house itself is quite nice. The pictures don't lie, particularly on the inside [the outside has been painted uniformly since the pictures posted]. The beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms well appointed, and the kitchen adequately equipped. The lack of cable was welcome and hardly noticed. There is a large collection of DVD's available if you are so inclined. The wifi connection was strong and uninterrupted , a must for our teenagers. There are a few facets about our stay that would have been helpful to know in advance. The water apparently is not potable, so prepare to bring your own drinking water. The laundry appliances are coin-operated so bring plenty of quarters. The few hiccups we experienced were readily addressed by the owner in a timely fashion.
My family and I rented this house for our winter break. We were pleasantly surprised and how nice this house really was. It does look exactly like the photographs. It was nice too this time of year we basically had the neighborhood to ourselves. THe hot tub outside definately made our trip. The house was clean and very nicely renovated. We wish would we have known about the train that's basically in the backyard that comes by at all hours of the night because that was a little noisey. There is no cable at all in the house which we knew about so we brought a playstation for netflix and things like that unfortunately the wifi does come in and out because of where the house is but, the owners have a stock pile of movies to watch and a really good selection as well. They did allow us to bring our 2 dogs with us which is always nice to be able to bring them with us and our dogs loved all the hills and the beachfront to run around. We were very pleased over all at our stay and would love to return during the summer months to be able to compare the different seasons.
