About Scott Matteson
I have been around Crystal Lake all my life; as a kid coming to my grandparents cottage which they purchased in the '30's and is still in the family today. Libbie and I are both retired (sort of) and have lived here full time for the last 20 years with our current rescue pets Harley the Standard Poodle and Ivy the little Pittie.
Scott Matteson purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Scott Matteson chose Crystal
We purchased the "red cottage" in 2004 at the same time we purchased our current lakefront home. We then lived in it for 9 months while our future home was renovated. It is located right next to the old family cottage I spent many summer days at as a youth. Back then I couldn't believe that someone would build a cottage on "our play yard" , but I always admired the cottage, especially the enclosed sunporch and the large oak trees dotting the property.
What makes this Cottage unique
The "red cottage" offers both privacy and serenity at its well-shaded double lot, plus access to beautiful Crystal Lake with its own private dock. There are not very many rental cottages at Crystal Lake that offer lake frontage, and I believe we are the only ones that have a pontoon available to rent with the cottage.
Guests are ok, no large groups due to parking
No smoking in cottage/sunporch, smoking on deck ok
only non-shedding pets allowed with prior approval
Minimum age of primary renter:23
Parking for up to 4 vehicles in driveway only. No parking in yard. Contact owner for special circumstances.
100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date. 50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
Your place really blessed our family. I had to make my sons wedding cake and cupcakes for 300. Your space was awesome for that task.
Red cottage vacation
Second visit to the red cottage, very nice time, every thing you need is there
The house was very clean. Really enjoyed our stay
Great Family Getaway
Loved the quaint little town of Crystal, Michigan and the cute little red cottage! Scott and Libbie were very good hosts and made sure we had everything we needed. They were quick to respond to communication and were very helpful. Check in and check out were very easy and the cottage has everything you need. We absolutely loved our time on the pontoon boat. It was big enough for the whole family to be out together without taking shifts. That was our biggest wish and we were not disappointed; plenty of room for the five of us. Lots of activity on the Lake on Saturday, but save that day for catching rays and just enjoying the beauty of the lake and surroundings. We did a lot of fishing the rest of our stay. There are several different species of fish in the lake. Thanks for a great stay, Scott and Libbie! We had a great family getaway!
Made this a great summer
It’s the kind of place when you walk though the door you get the feeling your home.
We had a great time. House was clean and better than expected. Scott was great to work with. Would absolutely come back.
Crystal Lake is home to an age-old roller rink that is open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings. The local stock car track has races every Saturday night weather permitting. There are several quality restaurants within 1/2 hour drive. Access to an extensive paved bike/walking trail is twenty minutes away, or you can join many others in their daily walk/bike five miles around our beautiful lake. The Crystal Box Office theatre is a classic old small-town theatre that operates Friday through Sunday, with inexpensive small town prices to boot. Or, walk to the local ice cream parlor for your favorite hand-dipped cone or sundae.
