Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom, 2 Bath + Tent Cabin, Hot Tub, Pond

A glorious, picturesque mini estate with fishing and boating pond, redwood grove, orchard, and hiking trails, all set in a private sunny meadow. As featured in Sunset magazine, a gourmet, over sized country kitchen, antique mantle on wood burning fireplace and Parisian antiques complete the feeling of elegance and serenity. Step outside to a cozy covered porch with upholstered wicker furniture and large entertaining deck with hot tub and a view that takes your breath away. The house is adjacent to a 80 acre vineyard and features surround sound throughout the house with a high end Denon stereo system for auxiliary input devices. There is a Bose Wave system for CD's.

In counterpoint and worthy of Architectural Digest is the new modern master bedroom with Italian metal windows in wonderful contrast to the first growth redwood floors salvaged from a local Sonoma County Barn. Oversized beams that support the suspended ceiling and asymmetrical skylight creates the feeling that you are sleeping in a Redwood Grove in a W hotel setting. All this faces onto the pond, enormous redwoods and bathed in full sun. Fireplace, bath and separate shower, plus awarding winning designer touches.

In addition to the primary residence, there is a real miner's tent cabin on the property that contains a beautiful queen sized sleigh bed with top shelf linens. Brand new this year, the tent cabin has a space heater and limited power. The tent is located on the other side of the pond. Fall asleep with the sounds of the frogs and seasonal creek.

Why Sue Hearn and John Gittins chose Sonoma County

When we stepped onto the property we had that ‘feeling’ that this place was special. The light, the views, the serenity and calm definitely spoke to us. There is truly a magical quality about Still Light Pond. From the private redwood grove with seasonal creek, to fishing in a corner of the pond, the stillness of the light, hiking trails, watching the birds from herons to egrets, private safari tent , all within a restored farmhouse property. It was love at first sight.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Whether you are looking for a relaxing retreat or discovery weekend of all the area has to offer-- wine tasting for world class pinots, organic/local food, canoeing or kayaking down the Russian River, golfing 20 minutes away at Bodega Bay or cycling the great backroads; the location will amaze you for its close proximity to so many diverse areas. It’s only a few miles from Russian River, 6 mi from the coast, close to Bodega Bay and Tomales Bay. Wine tasting, hiking, cycling and kayaking are our favorite activities, come enjoy them here at Still Light Pond.

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

Property is large, scenic and filled with wildlife. The hammocks, pond and safari tent are amazing. The hot tub under the stars was my fav thing. We did day trips to the coast, guernville, duncans mill, sebastopol, and valley ford. The area is perfect and this home is central to it all! We will be back sooner than later.

Wonderful chic hideaway

  • 5 of 5

We met some friends from the east coast for a week in the wine country and stayed at Still Light Pond. The cottage was delightfully California Chic, comfortable, with many places to sprawl, chat, read a book in the sun soaked day room, lots of places for grilling, and entertainment, and a well equipped kitchen. The view of the pond, with dragonflies lazily soaring around, and deer ambling by daily was also breathtakingly beautiful and relaxing.

It is well located for day trips to the Sonoma Wine Country, as well as the coast, and lovely red wood forests. Many quaint and whimsical places to poke around in as well in Sebastopol and Healdsburg.

Sue and John also were just wonderful in giving us recommendations, answering questions about the area, which made it an even more lovely, and relaxing stay.

Aloha,

Bridget and Jim

What a beautiful and peaceful retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful stay at your place! So scenic and peaceful. Just looking at the pond was such a treat. Beautiful dragonflies and birds as well. The breeze seemed to keep away the mosquitos and even though we were there in a slight heat wave, the place really never got too hot!

You had all the supplies we could want in the kitchen.

Thanks again

Beautiful property, but unfortunately not well maintained

  • 3 of 5

The house and the grounds are very nice. There were a lot of things we enjoyed and then there were several things, listed as amenities, that we could not enjoy due to poor maintenance.

I have to say that with all the 5 star ratings, I was more than disappointed.

The Good:

Very peaceful

Wonderful kitchen

Master bedroom is like heaven

Lots of windows all around to enjoy the beautiful outdoors

Furnishings are warm and comfortable

Lovely redwoods just outside the back door, really nice.

Not so good:

It was very hot during our visit and there is no a/c. Even with the two fans available it was still over 90 degrees in the house in the afternoon.

The ping pong table is not usable. Located in a dirty, unkept shed, with uneven floors. The table was covered with paint supplies.

The outside furniture and cushions had not been cleaned for some time. Covered in cobwebs and stains. Could not use even after attempting to hose them down.

The napping porch is covered in cobwebs and is so dirty we didn't even attempt to use.

Overall we made the best of it, but it could have been much better if we were able to use all the amenities advertised.

Lovely and unusual place

  • 5 of 5

You won't get many better views from the master bedroom of this converted farmhouse....the lake and redwoods are just beautiful. Early in the mornings, you may see deer, egrets, and lots of quail. Charming, and, as one of the other reviewers noted, "quirky" in the decor, with a large, perfect kitchen (with a Wolf range and a SubZero refrigerator/freezer). Nice hot tub, gorgeous deck, and a very unusual safari-like tent perched on the other side of the lake...you won't be bored with a visit to Still Light Pond. Situated within a mile of Occidental, and close to Sebastapol, lots of vineyards and wineries, this home is perfect for a getaway. We had a couple of questions for the owners after our arrival, and they responded quickly to resolve them. We'd return in a heartbeat!
