Still Light Pond Mini Country Estate

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,690 sq ft
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

2 Bedroom, 2 Bath + Tent Cabin, Hot Tub, Pond

A glorious, picturesque mini estate with fishing and boating pond, redwood grove, orchard, and hiking trails, all set in a private sunny meadow. As featured in Sunset magazine, a gourmet, over sized country kitchen, antique mantle on wood burning fireplace and Parisian antiques complete the feeling of elegance and serenity. Step outside to a cozy covered porch with upholstered wicker furniture and large entertaining deck with hot tub and a view that takes your breath away. The house is adjacent to a 80 acre vineyard and features surround sound throughout the house with a high end Denon stereo system for auxiliary input devices. There is a Bose Wave system for CD's.

In counterpoint and worthy of Architectural Digest is the new modern master bedroom with Italian metal windows in wonderful contrast to the first growth redwood floors salvaged from a local Sonoma County Barn. Oversized beams that support the suspended ceiling and asymmetrical skylight creates the feeling that you are sleeping in a Redwood Grove in a W hotel setting. All this faces onto the pond, enormous redwoods and bathed in full sun. Fireplace, bath and separate shower, plus awarding winning designer touches.

In addition to the primary residence, there is a real miner's tent cabin on the property that contains a beautiful queen sized sleigh bed with top shelf linens. Brand new this year, the tent cabin has a space heater and limited power. The tent is located on the other side of the pond. Fall asleep with the sounds of the frogs and seasonal creek.

Why Sue Hearn and John Gittins chose Occidental

When we stepped onto the property we had that ‘feeling’ that this place was special. The light, the views, the serenity and calm definitely spoke to us. There is truly a magical quality about Still Light Pond. From the private redwood grove with seasonal creek, to fishing in a corner of the pond, the stillness of the light, hiking trails, watching the birds from herons to egrets, private safari tent , all within a restored farmhouse property. It was love at first sight.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Whether you are looking for a relaxing retreat or discovery weekend of all the area has to offer-- wine tasting for world class pinots, organic/local food, canoeing or kayaking down the Russian River, golfing 20 minutes away at Bodega Bay or cycling the great backroads; the location will amaze you for its close proximity to so many diverse areas. It’s only a few miles from Russian River, 6 mi from the coast, close to Bodega Bay and Tomales Bay. Wine tasting, hiking, cycling and kayaking are our favorite activities, come enjoy them here at Still Light Pond.

Serenity and peace

  • 5 of 5

Tucked away in Occidental a farmhouse awaited our arrival. Upon entering the residence I could look out toward the deck and from the master bedroom the beautiful pond surrounded in green rolling hills

The kitchen was open and airy with a Wolfe stove and eclectic furnishings. Well appointed kitchen. Spice drawer. Coffee n filters. Emergency water. I made several meals there

Hot tub was fabulous. Late at night if you turn the lights out the sky is glistening with stars The pond is teaming with tadpoles and frogs. Take the boat out and enjoy a row or two

There is a tented bedroom. I didn’t use it but a cat was hanging outside on the deck. Very friendly and well fed

Great vacation spot.

Beautiful place, lovely secluded setting. Fun for three generations of our party. Close enough to beaches for day trips. Cute little town.

Forget the hustle and bustle!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay! Each of our kids brought a friend. Two stayed in the guest bedroom, and two stayed on the pullout down by the fireplace (with the cold snap they decided it was too cold for the tent!). We had a great walk and tree-climb on the property one day. It was very cold, but with the heated floors and fires we stayed nice and cozy! Our son was impressed with the whole-house audio and DJ’d for us every day. My wife and I decided the bed we slept on was better than any house or hotel yet, we slept so well. The master bedroom and bath have lots of windows that open up to the large private yard and pond - effectively bringing nature right into the house. The kids all took turns rowing around in the pond and the spa and horseshoes were great! For those that like to cook, the kitchen had everything we needed, so we had all our meals in-house. It was nice to be in such quiet surroundings and, at the same time, close to a couple little grocery stores. Thanks for the hospitality!

Gorgeous property with lots of charm

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here. Not only was the house gorgeous, but the property itself had so many wonderful little surprises. The pond and boat were fun to explore along with the glamping quarters just beyond the pond. There were hammocks in the redwood grove as well as beside the pond, outdoor seating with access to fire bin, and of course the gorgeous deck with hot tub and seating.

Our favorite part was the master bathroom with the tub surrounded by windows overlooking the trees and pond. Perfect for a relaxing soak.

We will certainly be back here again!

My favorite place in north California

  • 5 of 5

This property is just absolutely STUNNING. The modern touches, mixed with eclectic decor, the architectural space, the beautiful and immense yard, the pond, the boat, the tent, hot tub, deck, house wide stereo system, it has everything! I am counting the days for when we go back, that’s how much we loved it. The hosts were extremely communicative and accomodating, they made this transaction a joy.

I recommend this property to anyone! I only hope it doesnt get too busy so we can go back!!
