About the property

This amazing home sits on a large canyon in the Kensington/Talmadge area..

If you’re travelling to San Diego, why not experience California living at its finest? This beautiful, three bedroom, two bathroom open floor plan home sits on a large, peaceful canyon. And while you’ll feel like you’ve gotten away from it all, you’re just a short drive to all of San Diego’s famous attractions. 5 miles to San Diego Zoo; 10 miles to SeaWorld and Airport.

This unique home is a sanctuary for those seeking a peaceful escape from their hectic lives. The large patio has a prominent water feature that beckons you to relax and enjoy the view. Another patio is perfect for a quiet dinner, complete with BBQ grill and seating for four. As you venture into the hillside yard, you can unwind in the private hot tub while enjoying the lush landscaping that surrounds you.

There are large windows throughout, including five sets of French doors, that flood the house with natural light. The home remains private with gorgeous views to the canyon and landscaping.

The master suite has a queen sized bed, fireplace and spa-like master bathroom with walk around shower and large skylight. The front guest room has a king bed and the sun-room facing the canyon has a full-sized bed. There is also another queen bed in a small studio in the backyard (no bathroom). The home can accommodate 6-8 people throughout.

**Children will need approval. The home is not ideal for the very young due to water features and canyon stairs. Renters must be respectful of noise levels.**

About Todd

I'm a custom residential architect who has lived in San Diego for 15 years and love this beautiful part of the country. Originally from the East Coast, I have adapted well to the laid back lifestyle of Southern California. I love being close to large, diverse cities, the desert, the mountains and the beautiful beaches. San Diego is a unique gem and everyone should be fortunate enough to experience it.

Todd purchased this house in 2006

Why Todd chose San Diego

I love this home as it blends beautifully with the canyon and lush tropical landscaping. I added an additional bedroom to the front in 2012 which dramatically changed the curb appeal and gave it the street presence you see today. I look forward to hosting you and know you will enjoy this private sanctuary as much as I have.

What makes this house unique

This home offers many unique features. The interiors were fashioned by a famous designer named Steven Chase. The home has an abundance of high-end finishes and surprising details like large industrial skylights, textured walls, French doors and numerous windows, recessed illuminated alcoves, mirrored walls, a spacious open floor plan, and under-cabinet lighting.

The grounds are private and from inside the home, the view drops below you into the canyon. The yard is filled with lush, tropical landscaping, a hot tub, deck, patio and a circular flow that blends with the welcoming feel of the home. There are multiple water features that contribute to the tranquillity of this Bali-like ambience.

Notes:
While this home does not have A/C, there are only a few short weeks in the summer when it is typically needed (search for average temperatures during your stay and you'll see what we mean). San Diego's climate is semi-arid with typically low humidity so it doesn't feel as hot as it can in other parts of the country with higher humidity. That said, there are ceiling fans and portable fans for you to use, as well as a whole house fan that will pull the warm air out and cooler night air in. With this home being on a canyon, it also receives nice breezes.

Beautiful house, great location

  • 5 of 5

This is a great property. We had 3 couples staying here and there was plenty of room for everyone. The outdoor space is amazing!! Beautiful views, private, lots of seating. We loved it. Perfect place to hang out and relax after our busy days touring San Diego. Would love to come back again and stay here. Great location, close to everything. We never had more than a 15 minute ride to everywhere we wanted to go, the zoo, hiking, downtown, etc. LOVED IT :)

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful home is a wonderful place to come back to after a busy day in San Diego and surrounding areas. It is located in a quiet residential neighborhood with easy access to the freeways. The outdoor space is wonderful with multiple areas to gather or relax on your own! It is very private and inviting. The home has everything you need to have an enjoyable vacation, and the property manager is very available if you need him.

Relaxing Peaceful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is a centrally located home that has many "living" areas for family members to gather or have private time to themselves. The home offers a fully stocked kitchen, dining room, many reading areas, and a sound system. However, once you step into the backyard, you may never want to come in!!! The backyard couldn't have been designed any better, it is amazing! The soothing waterfall, comfy seating areas, lighting, and gorgeous views are incredible. The detached mini house by the hot tub was a huge favorite for our teenagers as they had their own space. We used the grill a lot, and enjoyed the evenings eating at the home and relaxing on the patio. The beds were very comfortable, and there was a lot of good storage areas. It was so nice to be supplied with the necessities such as dish soap, seasonings, laundry detergent, numerous towels - including beach towels/bags!!! This is a great place to rent while in San Diego, close enough to all the major highways, yet far enough away from the noise. It was the perfect place to relax after the busy days enjoying San Diego!

Great canyon view and outdoor area!

  • 4 of 5

My family really enjoyed the canyon view and relaxing outdoor area behind the house. The house itself has plenty of room for two adults and two kids. There is room for more people but it would feel crowded with more than 6 people in my opinion. Interior decor was interesting - kind of a 1980s eclectic feel with some modern updates. We had a couple of minor issues and Randy (property manager) responded immediately. The hot tub water was kind of funky - we didn't report that but I'm sure Randy would've done something about it if we had. Propane grill was clean and in good condition. Neighborhood was nice and felt safe. 20 minutes from everything in San Diego. I would recommend this property for anyone who wants to get away from the noisy city and just chill after a long day of doing vacation stuff.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay! My apologies, I forgot to mention during check in about the hot tub water. We use an "oxidizer" instead of harsh chemicals (like chlorine and bromine) and it can sometimes have a funny smell. Baqua Spa, our chemical provider, offers scents for the hot tub water and we may apply those for future guests to avoid this confusion. Also for future guests, I live near Balboa Park and it takes me about 10-12 minutes to get to the house. It's about 15-20 minutes to the airport, the beaches and La Jolla (depending on traffic).

Beautiful Home!

  • 5 of 5

My daughters and I thoroughly enjoyed this home during our stay in San Diego. It is a beautiful home with a great view. We enjoyed the hot tub and would have loved to use the patio more, however the weather was a little chilly for that. The home had everything we needed and was very comfortable. The location was centrally located to everything that was on our list of things to do. Would definitely stay again!

Wow Factor Times Ten

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent four nights at this lovely home while visiting San Diego. While the pictures had us both looking forward to our stay, it truly is even better in person. Such a unique house to come back to each day. The master bath was just spectacular. We visited the zoo, the USS Midway and La Jolla and it was an easy drive to all. We had wonderful meals in Kensington and enjoyed strolling around the neighborhood each day. We went in February, so we enjoyed the stunning patio in the afternoon but it was too cold for me to venture out at night. Had I gone in the summer, I may very well have spent all of my time enjoying the house and patio. Randy was a great help to us as well and was waiting for us as soon as we landed and made it to the house. I cannot think of a thing I needed, that I could not find somewhere in the house. Thanks to Todd and Randy, our stay will be filled with wonderful memories!
