Serenissima: peaceful getaway, secluded property with own swimming pond & garden

Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

Overview

About the property

This ultimate relaxation property consists of a three bedroom house with large eat-out terrace, and beautiful views overlooking your own private pond. The entire property is very secluded and contemplative, with a winding driveway off a local road. It is a unique and quiet place to relax, unwind and immerse yourself in a natural environment, with friends and family. There is a 20's style screened-in outhouse with two changing rooms overlooking the pond. Near the diving deck is a stone BBQ and fire pit for entertaining. Mature and beautiful flower gardens and trees surround the pond,, as well as an extra 7 acres of forest that then backs on to over 100 acres of the Edwin Teale Audubon Bird Sanctuary–great for long walks, forest bathing, tuning into swaying trees, leaf peeping, fluttering birds, rippling water, and reconnecting with nature. It has a large herb and vegetable garden, and the pond is ideal for swimming, canoeing and fishing. There are two small waterfalls, one flowing past the house and one pouring into the pond; you can hear running water from two of the bedrooms and the living room. There are three walk bridges that cross streams on the property. This place is perfect for a tranquil and restorative summer or fall vacation, where you can tune into the smells, textures, tastes and sights of nature, and leave stress behind.

The property and surrounding area is known for its beautiful autumn foliage, and is ideal for 'leaf peepers'. The colors reflected in the pond from the house are glorious.

Rented with a 3-day minimum. The price ($175/night) is for 4 people. Add $15/night for any additional guest; with a maximum of 6 people.

On the property of 10 acres there ae 3 structures: the main house, the change-room by the pond, and a small cottage where a caretaker sometimes stays when doing chores. (If you do not want anybody staying in the cottage, please speak to the owner in advance, and it can easily be arranged).

Tranquil, peaceful eclectic property

  • 5 of 5

Our family had such a wonderful time our week staying at Serenissima. We are a family of four (including two children ages 5 and 8). We spent every day swimming, floating, and canoeing around the pond. Went for a hike at the neighboring Audubon sanctuary as well as an organized hike at the Audubon Center at Pomfret. We loved the frogs that created us as we approached the pond. The pictures don't do the property justice. We stayed for the week of July 4th and it cooled down to more than comfortable (even had to close a couple windows some nights!) with out A/C. We loved the co-op in Willamantic for groceries (about 20 minutes away), but there are closer options. We met Pia on our first day there. She was a lovely person and answered all our questions and more. We would love to visit again!

Serenissima is a beautiful peaceful getaway

  • 4 of 5

This property in Hampton, Ct. is beautiful and quiet. This was my first time using VRBO or Home Away, so I was a little nervous. I wrote to Pia before I went and she kindly explained everything to me. I was there a couple of weeks ago when the leaves were just beginning to change. The grounds and pond are lovely and the owner provides indoor and outdoor games so you can play as much as you want. There is no TV which is perfect for me. WiFi is provided, so if you can't live without TV, you can stream anything you want. No microwave, but found I didn't miss that either. The house is roomy, clean and well furnished. There is a large deck with a table with bench seating that you get to from the kitchen/LR area, a balcony off the master bedroom, a screened in porch off the basement bedroom and another at the back door. There is an odor from the wood stove on the basement level, but you don't notice it on the main floor. I suggest you bring your own water as there is a slight sulfur smell to the water in the house. The kitchen has everything you need in terms of dishes, pots and pans, etc. And there is a washer and dryer. One of them in the bathroom and the other in the basement. The only problem I had was that the motion light where we parked the car timed out too soon. I found a flashlight very handy when coming in after dark. There was a note saying you could turn that light on and leave it on, but I never figured out how to do it. I should have called and asked, but the flash light was fine. Overall, this was a very good experience and I recommend it highly. It is a lovely place and I would like to go back sometime when I can just sit and enjoy the beautiful views.

Simply beautiful

  • 5 of 5

My family of four recently stayed at Pia's amazing property and had the best time. My boys (7 & 10yrs) loved exploring the grounds while my husband and I could relax and watch them on the balcony. We fished, canoed, biked and roasted marshmallows without leaving the property. Plus the boys loved finding frogs too. The house was so clean with everything you could need during your stay. We are not used to well water so we just used bottled water instead not a big deal. There are interesting nicknacks , games and books for fun. The views from the house of the trees and pond are a perfect way to start your day. We found great restaurants and shops within a short car ride. We also took in a car show and pumpkin festival while in town. I had the pleasure of chatting with Pia and she was so warm and welcoming. She is there if you need assistance but totally gives you privacy. We look forward to returning to this property and creating more wonderful memories!

Property and general area are beautiful. Home is rustic and charming. Very old school.

This property gives you an outdoor experience and being able to totally disconnect. No tv, no radio, but there is wifi. We would strongly recommend the 3 mile hike around the airport and lake( a few miles away). We also enjoyed a great night around the fire pit (which the owner had already prepped!) we spent an evening fishing on the small lake and caught 3 small fish and a giant 20 inch one! We also used the BBQ out back for an evening. This is a great way to get away from it all for a long weekend. The owner, Pia, checked in on us to make sure we had everything we needed. I didn't meet her but my daughter did and said she was very nice. A great get away weekend for myself, my daughter and our two dogs! Thank you very much Pia!

Perfection.

  • 5 of 5

First off, Pia was great. She communicated well, answered all our questions, and was very helpful. Second, the property is beyond words. If you are looking for a clean, QUIET, calming, get-a-way this is the place for you. There are numerous areas around the property to enjoy (the firepit, the deck, the dock). In addition, the Audubon Sanctuary that is RIGHT NEXT DOOR is an amazing treat for birders. This place will replenish your soul if you let it.
