Serenissima: peaceful getaway, secluded property with own swimming pond & garden

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

This ultimate relaxation property consists of a three bedroom house with large eat-out terrace, and beautiful views overlooking your own private pond. The entire property is very secluded and contemplative, with a winding driveway off a local road. It is a unique and quiet place to relax, unwind and immerse yourself in a natural environment, with friends and family. There is a 20's style screened-in outhouse with two changing rooms overlooking the pond. Near the diving deck is a stone BBQ and fire pit for entertaining. Mature and beautiful flower gardens and trees surround the pond,, as well as an extra 7 acres of forest that then backs on to over 100 acres of the Edwin Teale Audubon Bird Sanctuary–great for long walks, forest bathing, tuning into swaying trees, leaf peeping, fluttering birds, rippling water, and reconnecting with nature. It has a large herb and vegetable garden, and the pond is ideal for swimming, canoeing and fishing. There are two small waterfalls, one flowing past the house and one pouring into the pond; you can hear running water from two of the bedrooms and the living room. There are three walk bridges that cross streams on the property. This place is perfect for a tranquil and restorative summer or fall vacation, where you can tune into the smells, textures, tastes and sights of nature, and leave stress behind.

The property and surrounding area is known for its beautiful autumn foliage, and is perfect for 'leaf peepers'. The colors reflected in the pond from the house are glorious.

Rented with a 3-day minimum. The price ($175/night) is for 4 people. Add $15/night for any additional guest; with a maximum of 6 people.

On the property of 10 acres there ae 3 structures: the main house, the change-room by the pond, and a small cottage where a caretaker sometimes stays when doing chores. (If you do not want anybody staying in the cottage, please speak to the owner in advance, and it can easily be arranged).

About Pia Rigby

I lived in NYC for 25 years and now am in Italy. I come to the States often for work, family and friends.

Pia Rigby purchased this house in 2014

Why Pia Rigby chose Connecticut

A peaceful place to relax, create and get away from it all and yet still be near NY and those close to me. My parents had a second home in the area for years, and my sister lives nearby.

What makes this house unique

Totally private, with an incredible view from the house of a large, beautiful, stream and spring-fed pond. Sun and shade, great for forest bathing in summer and leaf peeping in fall. Perfect for contemplation and creativity.

Tranquil, peaceful eclectic property

  • 5 of 5

Our family had such a wonderful time our week staying at Serenissima. We are a family of four (including two children ages 5 and 8). We spent every day swimming, floating, and canoeing around the pond. Went for a hike at the neighboring Audubon sanctuary as well as an organized hike at the Audubon Center at Pomfret. We loved the frogs that created us as we approached the pond. The pictures don't do the property justice. We stayed for the week of July 4th and it cooled down to more than comfortable (even had to close a couple windows some nights!) with out A/C. We loved the co-op in Willamantic for groceries (about 20 minutes away), but there are closer options. We met Pia on our first day there. She was a lovely person and answered all our questions and more. We would love to visit again!

Wonderful, peaceful property with awesome swimming hole and more! Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful, fully-furnished house with 3 bedrooms await your stay for

your next vacation! Basic amenities for everyday living available,

Pots/pans/untensils; grill. Peaceful, quiet, picturesque. Swimming hole

with canoe and kayak to float about in. Bonfire area and BBQ pit,

changing cabin, some fish in the pond and ONE BIG ONE!!! Grillin' and

picnickin' all week long! Nice rear deck to relax on, small balcony by

master bedroom for a scenery-filled breakfast. Local shops and stores

about 15 minute drive. Go get We-Li-Kit homemade ice cream and pet the

farm animals.   Pia was very welcoming and helpful on anything you may

need. This is your home-away-from-home, BUT BETTER.

First off, Pia was great. She communicated well, answered all our questions, and was very helpful. Second, the property is beyond words. If you are looking for a clean, QUIET, calming, get-a-way this is the place for you. There are numerous areas around the property to enjoy (the firepit, the deck, the dock). In addition, the Audubon Sanctuary that is RIGHT NEXT DOOR is an amazing treat for birders. This place will replenish your soul if you let it.

Beautiful property - peaceful, rejuvenating

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely loved this property! Gorgeous grounds with a lovely pond and a fire pit. We brought our 2 dogs and they had the time of their lives :) They were able to be off-leash with lots of grounds to run and explore. We also fished in the pond (and caught a couple!), and enjoyed sitting around the fire in the evenings. This is the perfect place to relax, read a book on the dock, swim in the pond, grill in the evenings, and unplug from life (although there is WiFi if you need it). The house itself is quaint - not very large. But it was perfect for two couples. My husband and I both have bad backs, but the beds were nice and firm, which we thoroughly appreciated. There is no microwave, which is not a big deal, but good to know in case you bring anything that needs reheating. It must all be done in the stove. If we lived closer we'd probably come back every quarter just to rejuvenate. We stayed for 5 nights and were not ready to leave...

Lovely house, lovely grounds, quiet, isolated

  • 5 of 5

Was hoping to get away from everything for a few days of peace and quiet and got exactly that. The house is lovely with everything one needed and no television, a true retreat. Beautiful grounds, pond with kayak, canoe, fishing tackle (the kid caught 12 fish one day and 11 the next (if I ate fish, we could have spent nothing on food). Hiked, picked peaches in Ashford, went to a farmers' market, and the dog got to see horses and cows. Altogether satisfying.

We loved it! Beautiful gardens great fishing in the pond.

  • 5 of 5

Our son attends UCONN and lives near by. It was very convenient for us. Our whole family flew in for a week long visit. All that we needed was there to use. If you like a natural surrounding along with pease and quiet you will love this. The water has a strong sulfur smell so for drinking purposes we bought a 5 gallon container and filled it up at the spring in Alex Caisse Park in Willimantic about 5 miles away. If you catch one of the huge bass please put it back as they are responsible for keeping the small ones thinned out. There are huge bluegill and bass as a result and I want to catch them again when we return. Which we will do.
