Awesome escape with modern amenities!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I loved our stay in this comfy cabin - it had everything we wanted for a great weekend away with wood fires in the fireplace, a hot tub outside, the river right outside, and a fully equipped kitchen. Thanks!!

Beautiful cabin in the woods - a perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful cabin in the woods is a historic gem with lots of upgrades. The hot tub, full kitchen, two gorgeous stone fireplaces, and dog-friendly spaces welcomed us to the most relaxing long weekend we've had in ages. The property possesses a perfect feeling of seclusion, nestled away on its wooded lot, with a deck and yard overlooking a scenic river view. We spent hours in the mornings, sitting on the deck and enclosed porch, chatting with coffee, watching the autumn leaves settle on the water, and listening to the river babble by. In the afternoons, we availed ourselves of the many games the cabin had. At night, the crackling firepit was the scene of fabulous s'mores and a brilliant starscape that took our breath away. While you're in town, don't miss dinner at The Forks Inn. https://attheforks.com/; their smoked prime rib was outstanding and the cocktails did not disappoint. I could not have imagined a more perfect place to spend a few quiet days.

Do note: this is not a timeshare, and it is not a condo on a resort property. It is a proper home set in a very relaxing landscape. Plan to curl up with a good book, crackling fire, and warm blanket. We had one question during our stay - where to find the firewood - and a quick call to our hostess resulted in a delivery that evening of several rick worth! It is a testament to Mrs. Elliot how promptly she responded to our query and how warm and accommodating she was to us. Her home felt like our home. We cannot wait to return again!

A step back in time.

  • 5 of 5

Oct 2-13, 2016. The history of this place is amazing. The setting is serene on the deck over the meandering river full of river rock and crystal clear water. This cabin was built in 1910. And, oh, if cabin walls could talk. My husband and I talked about what their lives were like, before the additions of the bathroom, laundry room, and electric stove. How they cooked over the open fireplace or a wood burning stove.

The bedroom downstairs is amazing. Very large with fireplace. Because of my business, I had to spend some time on the computer. I sat in the bedroom at the table in front of the large picture window, with computer, overlooking the river, working. Very relaxing.

We didn't need the upstairs bedrooms, but had to look. Another look into history! The stairs, though, are not for the elderly or very young children.

We were too early for fall colors, but we took some scenic drives to Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob, Canaan Valley, and Blackwater Falls. Beautiful colors and amazing scenery. We also took the scenic 4 hour New Tygart Flyer rail to the high falls of the Cheat River. There was not a lot of fall color, but it was interesting, cool, very long tunnel, very good lunch buffet of salads and sandwiches, and dessert on return trip. I suggest that you go with the parlor car with seats opposite of the train station. Much more scenic. We switched with a couple on the return trip so they could get more of a view. Whatever side you are on is the same view when you return. The train does not make a loop. It goes there, puts the engine on the other end and you return on the same side that you came on.

The river is stocked with trout in the fall. They were stocking the river the morning we had to leave. I still had fun trying!

We were there when Hurricane Matthew was in Florida and could not get home. Tiffany was so kind in helping us extend our stay. She was also very attentive to any of our concerns. Thank you for letting us experience a piece of history and opening your home to us.

Fantastic Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at the riverfront Log Cabin the week of August 15th to celebrate my younger son's birthday. It was a great quiet and relaxing getaway but still with plenty of things to do. Our Labs also enjoyed it immensely especially swimming in the river! We had some trouble figuring out the TV but Tiffany was very attentive and quick to fix the problem. Thank you for letting us stay in this wonderful cabin. I would love to come back again next year

A great location and extremely well-appointed rustic cabin with an ethos of comfort

  • 5 of 5

First, the cabin itself is rustic-historic, and at the same time spacious and well-appointed. The grounds are well maintained and very pleasing for all kinds of relaxation and recreation. We love the idiosyncratic oak floors, and the beauty of the beam ceilings and stone fire places. A family of six, even, would have plenty of space - not tripping all over each other. The deck over the river is perfect for casting a line; we caught plenty of small-mouth and rock bass even though we stayed in late August; trout were fairly scarce, but we caught a few keepers. There is also plenty to do in the area between Elkins and Historic Beverly to the west, and Seneca Rocks to the east. But between enjoying the river and fire-pit, and taking in the beautiful night sky from the hot tub, there isn't a need to leave. This is definitely one of the nicest cabins we've stayed in, in terms of the spaciousness and creature comforts. The water pressure is good and doesn't have a sulfury smell (something I often encounter in mountain rentals); and the mattress and pillows in the master bedroom were extremely comfortable (also not a given with vacation cabin rentals).

Our New Happy Place

  • 5 of 5

We had 6 adults and 2 children for the weekend. This place is awesome. Tiffany has thought of everything, right down to the little lamp on the table on the screened in porch for late night reading. We fished, kayaked and grilled out! We never felt crowded in the little cabin and had a great relaxing weekend! TONS of pots and pans, appliances and all kinds of amenities! Super clean and comfy beds! We can't wait to go back!
