A traditional cabin with all the amenities...

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at the cabin even though the weather was not the best.

Loved the cozy loft, the kitchen had all the tools we needed, and the huge fire pit was great to sit around. We took advantage of Glendalough State Park which had great hiking, beach and kayaks for rent.

Battle Lake has wonderful restaurants and small town vibe.

Thanks for a great stay!

Clean but not completely as "advertised."

  • 3 of 5

The property and interior was clean and pleasant. In my opinion, it was clearly a rental by a single male as many touches that would be "guest friendly" (that I woman might attend at the risk of sounding a little sexist) were missing. (BTW, lest you think I'm "soft," I've spent a week hiking and camping in mountain forests and wilderness before.)

The headline as being "waterfront" is misleading as the lake shore is 150 yards away and the access to it is left to asking neighbors if they'd mind letting us traverse their yard to get there. There is a canoe near a creek but it is not clear if that is the property owner's and for guest use or not AND there was only ONE paddle and NO LIFE VESTS if there were. One window was broken so I hope we aren't assessed for it and one window handle was barely functioning (but neither was a detraction from the stay or cabin). It hardly "sleeps four" unless they are related or very friendly. One mattress was an air mattress without a pad so it was very cold (I remade it with blankets under the sheet) BUT it lost a little air and there was no way to inflate it further. If it deflated, good luck, you're on the couch. There was one large very comfortable bed, though.

Everything worked just fine (kitchen and bath). Minor amenities would have been nice -- such as plastic wrap to protect food and inexpensive conveniences such as a small cache of sugar or cooking oil, salt and pepper, face cloths (towels were provided), etc. These are cheap but shows some forethought for potential guests.

The TV remote stopped working the first day and we were relegated to ONE channel (ESPN) without tinkering with the cable box (not chosen and rarely watched anyway but in trying to watch the news, no luck and using a cell phone eats data as there is no wi-fi -- nor expected).

One reviewer complained about bugs and mice -- no such problems for us. One grill was pretty gross but the other was usable but needed some cleaning.

All in all, a REASONABLE value but not if you were expecting either close lake access or water recreation and improvements in bedding for more than a single or couple would enhance its value at little cost. It's not a GREAT value because for a little more, nicer and with better access to recreation is available. It has nice proximity to Glendalough and the creek into Molly Stark > Annie Battle > Blanche Lake, which is a plus.

I'm not being overly critical as I grew up in the town, so I know whereof I speak

Owner's Response: Not sure how to even respond to this book length review...I am always available to address any issues instead of coming to address things in a review...If this guest would have talked to me instead of complaining about no paddles, can't figure out remote, no lifejackets, can't figure out how to get to the water....all could have easily been remedied with a phone call...we try and rent to people who appreciate the outdoors and privacy this cabin brings...

Peaceful and Cozy

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have vacationed here a couple times and this cozy house in the woods is what makes this such a great experience for our family. Battle Lake offers many restaurants and outdoor activities for families and friends, but we wanted our kids to enjoy the peacefulness of being together at a cabin in the woods. This house is very clean and offers an open layout to enjoy cooking while all being together. There is a huge fire pit where we sit around and make smores, tell stories, laugh, and leave all our hectic schedules back in the city. It's truly one of the best little retreats and I highly recommend this for the busy families who long for a weekend of family bonding and fun.

Cozy Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This year was our second stay at the cabin. It is the perfect retreat for our family of five. The kids love to fish and canoe in the creek, roast s'mores over the bonfire and eat ice cream at "Granny's Pantry." The owner recommended great sandy beaches for the kids, as well as great restaurants to check out. Next year we are planning to return and do a guided fishing trip with the owner, the kids can't wait!!!

Peaceful Weekend Away

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for a long weekend away in August. We had a WONDERFUL time! It was so peaceful and relaxing. The cabin is tucked back in the woods with plenty of privacy and access to a canoe to paddle up/down the creek into the lake. The bonfire pit at night was perfect to sit around. Our little dog loved exploring around the cabin and swimming in the creek. Glendalough State Park is very close with an amazing beach and trails to explore. The town of Battle Lake had some awesome restaurants/bars to check out - our favorites were Shoreline (for breakfast), the Rusty Nail, Stubs, and Zorbazs! For dessert we definitely hit up Grannies Pantry - tons of candy and ice cream to chose from! The cabin was so cozy and clean too. We will definitely be coming back to visit.
