Please do not make an inquiry for dates that are available, but then refer to dates that are not available. It reduces the booking percentage for the property, and VRBO will intervene if there are too many inquiries that do not book. Just email us, and when you fill out the email fields, choose the option that your dates are flexible, or text me at 914-262-8374. We are making the house available 90 days into the future only, as we are selling the house.. Because of the possibility that the house will be sold, or if not sold, rented on an annual basis, we don't want to make commitments too far into the future. I have everything blocked off more than 90 days into the future, even though it is not actually rented. I will open up the dates as time passes. Thanks for understanding.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER if you do not hear from me as I respond very quickly - for some reason, VRBO or Homeaway email replies often go to spam. Feel free to call me at 914-262-8374. If you include your phone, I will call you to make sure you got my response.

Rates are not only seasonal but also based on price breaks for length of stay. Please see notes in Rates Section for complete breakdown. Price breaks start on the 3rd night.

The house is a four bedroom two bath (plus a laundry room toilet) brick cape, built in 1941, with a 3 season jalousie porch and finished basement. All floors are hardwood or tile. The house is closest to Thayer/South Gate and is within walking distance to downtown. Location is within USMA walking privileges.

The house is set on one half acre right in the village, and is across from the pond at Roe Park, which has a great playground and basketball courts. In the back, there is a wooded view and complete privacy.

There is abundant parking on and off street. You can park three cars at the bottom of the driveway and still get in out and without having to jockey them around. You can park more cars behind the three at the bottom of the driveway, but would have to move them around to get in and out.

First floor

There are two bedrooms, 13'6'X13', with ceiling fans, with one bedroom used as an office with a queen sofa bed, and the other with a queen bed.

The living room has a couch and loveseat, leather recliner, side chair, fireplace and TV. There are some games and books, too.

Full bath, includes tub and shower.

The kitchen has stainless steel appliances, granite counters (breakfast bar, too), and is open to the dining room, which can seat six or more with leaves in the table.

Large 3 season jalousie porch (13'X20') right off the kitchen/dining room area with wicker furniture, two loveseats, table and four chairs for extra eating capability.

Second floor

There are two bedrooms 14'6'X14' with ceiling fans and queen beds. One mattress is a memory foam mattress.

Full bath with double sink, whirlpool bath and shower.

Window air conditioners in all bedrooms and the dining room during warmer months.

There are two finished rooms, one with a couch, loveseat, fireplace and TV, and the other room has a slate top pool table.

There is an unfinished laundry room with a toilet behind a privacy screen, and a sink by the washer and dryer.

Our Pets

We do stay at the house about three times a year and bring our two cats and a dog. If you have EXTREME cat allergies, this may not work for you. We do keep the first floor bedroom door closed when we are there so no animals go in there. The dog is standard poodle, so there should be no allergy issues arising from her.

Bringing your pet will be discussed on a case by case basis.

About Donna Mellon

Even though this is a second home for us, it is close to our hearts since Highland Falls is my husband's 'home town.' We relocated to the Raleigh, NC area in 2008, but just couldn't stay away. For that reason, this is not your typical vacation rental. The house was set up for our convenience, lovingly furnished and decorated with a combination of auction finds, family mementos, furniture we already had, and new furniture.

We do come to the house several times a year, so you will be 'sharing' some closet spaces with our 'stuff'.

Donna Mellon purchased this house in 2008

Why Donna Mellon chose Hudson Valley

This house had 'good bones' when we bought it from long time Highland Falls residents. We embarked on a renovation to make it more practical. The wall was taken down between the kitchen and dining room, the door to the jalousie porch was moved from the kitchen to the dining room so we could have breakfast bar, and we proceeded to install all new cabinets, a tile floor, and appliances. Both bathrooms were stripped to the studs and built up again. First floor hardwood floors were refinished and ceiling fans were placed in all of the bedrooms. We put in a door from the laundry room to the outside. We admittedly had fun getting the house set up for every day use for more than just we two - from the coffee pots to the silverware and towels. WE finished the basement family room and added a pool table room in an unfinished area. Once again, the two basement rooms were stripped to the studs, insulated, received new windows, new sheet rock, had the plumbing rerouted, and new tile floors installed.

What makes this house unique

The house is special to us because of its age and history. You'll also note multiple common areas, from the kitchen to the jalousie porch to the family room and the pool table room.

There is a wonderful covered porch off the dining room where you can watch joggers around the pond, or just listen to the birds while having your coffee,

The living room has old woodwork on the entire wall that houses the fireplace. There is picture molding instead of crown molding, a testament to when the house was built. The ceilings are nice and high, even in the basement.

The best vacation ever!

  • 5 of 5

We had the best vacation ever while spending a week in Highland Falls and West Point.

Our son flew in from Seattle with his girlfriend and our daughter and husband came in from Brooklyn.

We loved the house, the relaxing fireplace, how clean and neat every room in the house was.

The owners kept in touch with us prior to our visit and even put out holiday decorations making for a wonderful atmosphere for the entire visit. We planned to visit NYC but decided to spend the entire week in the house playing games, watching movies and enjoying the beautiful fireplace. The sleeping accommodations were perfect with plenty of room for eveyone.

We enjoyed the new Italian restaurant in town and had dinner there twice. The house had everything we needed to fix breakfast each morning and a wonderful Christmas day dinner. The beautiful sun porch warms up nicely when the sun is out. We spent several afternoons relaxing out there.

We would definitely stay again and enjoyed everything about Highland Falls, West Point and Bear Mountain.

Owner's Response: We are so happy that your Holiday stay worked out for you. Thank you so much for your enthusiastic review. It's great that Ermirios opened right before you came to stay and you were able to go there for dinner. I will let the owner (our son's best friend) know! We hope you are able to return before we sell the house.

Great home with plenty of room and amenities, especially if you're visiting USMA! The owners provided all the info needed and we wanted for nothing in the home itself. Sure hope we get the opportunity to use it again! PS--the fall colors-->WOW!!

Great location, cute house, awesome service

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in West Point, thanks to the house, location, and landlord. Donna was very responsive and even helped us find a babysitter so that we could attend a wedding without the kids. The house is super cute and has everything you need. The beds were comfortable, and we all enjoyed playing pool. The kids loved that the house is across from a park with a playground, baseball fields, and a lake – and we loved that it was only 2 blocks off of Main Street.

Cozy and Comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

We found this property clean, cozy, and functional. 4 bedrooms with clean bedding, great kitchen, washer, and dryer. My boys enjoyed the basement room with pool table. We were there (with my extended family) for a West Point event and we found the location very convenient. The neighborhood is charming with a pretty park across the way. When we first arrived (from California) we were struck by the heat and humidity. The house does not have central AC, but the individual AC units and ceiling fans for each room kept the rooms pretty cool. The owner, Donna, is very responsive and was very easy to work with. Thank you!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the positive review!! We were there for the month of July, and the weather was even more brutal. We did purchase an extra air conditioner as a result, so I am glad it worked out for you, too.
