Hale Bonita in Northwest Tucson is a soothing retreat on four acres, with privacy and expansive desert and mountain views. The home is appointed with art, comfort and technology to delight.
This vacation rental welcomes a gentle occupancy and does not allow parties or events.
Hale Bonita – so named in the Hawaiian-Spanish translation of “Beautiful House” is a Santa Fe contemporary, with a solar heated pool and 3 bedrooms. Entry to the property is by way of a private paved road, leading to the brick circular drive. As you enter the home, you are welcomed by the warmth and style of a private resort.
The Living Room is appointed with art, comfortable contemporary furniture in a conversational grouping with a 60 inch HD TV hidden behind doors. An audiophile B&W speaker system, Blu-Ray + CD player and premier television programming leave little to desire in home entertainment. There is a gas fireplace for those winter nights.
The kitchen is perfect for enjoying meal preparations while being a part of the living/dining room and the desert and mountain view. The kitchen is appointed with granite surfaces, a Viking range, a modern microwave + convection oven and a generous refrigerator. There is a washer and dryer in a utility room.
The Master suite is a warm and cozy retreat from the day. Wake up in the California King bed, looking out the French Doors, beyond the lawn and pool, to the view of desert and mountains. A generous walk-in closet will set you right at home with its custom built-ins. The Master Bath is large and airy with a Jacuzzi tub and an artistically designed pebble-stone shower.
The middle bedroom has a Queen Bed and a private vanity that enters into a full bath. The small bedroom has a Double Bed, with lots of light and art and shares the full bath through a Jack-’n-Jill doorway. A travel-photography gallery of prints adorn these two rooms. There are two full baths and one guest half-bath.
The landscaping was designed to incorporate the best of the Sonoran Desert with a touch of Sonoran tropical. The solar heated (mid-March - mid-November) swimming pool is surrounded by a garden of lush plants and trees. A heated Spa overlooks the pool deck and garden. Swim, Spa, relax, barbecue on the gas grill or head out from the back gate onto the dirt roads for biking or hiking in this ranch style horse community.
Cathy and I enjoy the house seasonally, together with Oliver the cat.
The home is 7 minutes from the I-10 freeway ramp – 15 minutes to downtown Tucson and 30 minutes to mid-town.
A former Honolulu resident, I reside in sunny Tucson, working as a commercial photographer. I glide between the best of both worlds: the tropics of Hawaii and the mystical beautiful Sonoran Desert.
Rick Peterson purchased this house in 2000
I chose this 4 acre land to build a custom house because of its magnificent views of the mountains, the natural desert - lush with saguaro cactus - and the quiet of the locale.
In the years following the construction of this house, I added all of the amenities that has made it the comfortable home it is today. It is a sanctuary.
This gorgeous home is exactly as described plus more. The owner is wonderful to work with and makes sure all is just right for your arrival. The location is private but is close to everything. It was a sheer delight staying here. The home, furnishings, pool, and desert location is ideal. At night we would sit outside on the patio and enjoy the solitude this home offers. The night sounds of the desert were a soothing balm after a hectic day of sight-seeing, or doing what ever it was you wanted to do. The pool is incredible as is the landscaping and ambiance offered by the lighting of this home. We thoroughly enjoyed the ability to prepare our own meals in the well stocked kitchen with the upgraded appliances. The bedrooms are wonderful with beds that are wonderfully comfortable. The bath, with its' whirlpool tub and walk-in pebble shower are an added delight! All are well illuminated, with the master bath having two magnifying mirrors mounted. Just wonderful! Everything about this house is first class luxury. The peace and solitude this home offers is incredible, the view from the back is amazing. The sunrise over the mountain, as seen from the rear of this house, is indescribable! From the moment you drive in and see the grand entry you will be thoroughly impressed with this beautiful home. The front courtyard is beautifully landscaped, as is the rest of the outside of this home. When it rains, you must sit on the patio and take in the beauty of the desert and the wonderful smell that the desert plants exude. I have never smelled anything as wonderfully aromatic and refreshing as this scent! This home is truly a home away from home. A wonderful blend of luxury and homeyness. A true oasis in the desert. I would highly, highly recommend a stay in this superb home. We absolutely loved our stay in this truly mini-resort.
I can not thank the owner enough for all he did to make our stay one of sheer delight.
The house was just as good as advertised with beautiful views, a well equipped kitchen, and a terrific outdoor space. We would definitely stay here again!
So fabulous we are returning in about 6 months for another stay. This is a piece of paradise. You feel like you are miles from everything with the solitude around you, but close enough for conveniences. Rick was very easy to contact. The house was in excellent condition! Clean, tidy and well equipped. The art work is stunning. Beds are comfortable, linens are perfect , tv has a great picture and sound, water pressure and temperature for showers is just right. I loved getting up in the early morning, soaking in the hot tub and watching the sun rise over the eastern mountain tops. So peaceful !
Truly a special place, and Rick was excellent to work with.
This past Spring 2016, our family chose Tucson AZ as our vacation destination, a location we know well. Now that our three young adult kids are older and are living in different geographic areas, our hopes were to find a private home where we could all come together and spend quality family time. Hale Bonita was the perfect home! The house is comfortable and amazingly decorated in Southwestern motif. The setting is private with breathtaking views of sunrises and moon rises over the Santa Catalina mountains. Hale Bonita is literally a private resort with all of the amenities, comforts and conveniences. Our entire vacation was one of relaxing in the pool and hot tub, playing cards and dining on the patio and stargazing around the fire pit. The incredible sound system and Rick's extensive music library kept our kids dancing throughout the day! Additionally, Rick Peterson is the perfect host easily accessible when we had needs such as replenishing the mesquite firewood. Our hopes are to return to Tucson in the near future. When we do, Hale Bonita will be our home of choice! Joe, Jackie, Erica, Aaron and Emma
We had a wonderful stay! The house was clean, comfortable and well appointed with everything you could ask for. We will not hesitate to rent it again when we go back to Tucson. Awesome!
My family and I enjoyed our Tucson vacation in January at this beautifully appointed home. It's all on one level, too, so perfect for young and old. Both the indoor and outdoor living areas are very clean and comfortable. It's also quite convenient to everything in the area but it's very private and you feel like you're in a delightful desert oasis while there. We had a couple of minor fix-it needs while we were there and Rick, the owner, was very prompt in attending to them. We hope to stay at this wonderful home again when we visit Tucson!
