Delightful inside and out!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in a lot of vacation rentals stateside and overseas. We were thrilled with this one and rate it 5 stars. Check in was a breeze! We had received detailed instructions in advance that made the process smooth as silk. We opened the door to a clean, cool (outside temp hovered at 95 and above) and extremely well stocked. We had our 7 pound pup with us and she had a lovely, fenced in yard to romp around. The neighborhood is quiet and a short distance away from the sights we came to visit. The town is small, but has everything. Our grandson, who was also with us, had forgotten his toothbrush, and that gave us an excuse to visit the local sorta old fashioned pharmacy. Your recommendation to try the restaurant Something Different was spot on. Food there is excellent and just a tad different. Our only regret is that our stay was too short. We would definitely like to stay in your home again when we head to VA. Thank you for sharing with us!

Well equipped cottage with good owner

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the house. It was a little tight for a family of 5, but the house and furnishings were nice. The owners are very communicative and easy to deal with. Highly recommend.

Perfect spring retreat for couple

  • 5 of 5

What a find! The Blue Tango was a perfect fit for a quiet retreat with my husband. Michael provided very thorough instructions prior to our arrival. The home was very clean and bright, and the decor was modern, tasteful, and comfy. The photos throughout the house added a nice touch and made it feel like more of an escape. The memory foam mattresses were a hit with my husband and the bedding was very soft. The kitchen had everything we needed to grill steaks and prepare breakfast during our stay. The weather on the day of our arrival was dreary, but the house was warm and cozy. Once the sun came out the next day, we took advantage of the rocking chairs on the deck and the cornhole game in the garage. We took the bikes out and around the town to see some of the beautiful neighborhoods- the bikes worked perfectly after adding a little air to the tires at the local gas station.

Urbanna is a charming little town and is a great launching point for exploring the Northern Neck peninsula. We weren't able to try the acclaimed "Something Different" restaurant in town (Closed Sun evening through Tuesdays, so plan accordingly), but the local Italian restaurant Colonial Pizza made a mean pizza and baked spaghetti! Also definitely recommend Merroir in Topping, VA- just a short drive away. Delicious oysters and small plates with a beautiful spot on the water! We wanted to find a beach and a local recommended Wake beach. A little tricky to find on the map but a fun drive through curving countryside to get to this little isolated beach. A little too chilly and windy for the beach, but we at least got our toes in some sand!

All in all, The Blue Tango was a perfect place to stay for a few quiet days away from the DC metro. Michael was very responsive to emails and questions. If we're ever back in the area and in need of a home-away-from-home, we'll be doing the Blue Tango!

Wonderful Christmas!!!

We recently stayed at the Blue Tango while visiting family for the holidays. Our experience was wonderful, not only were we able to bring our dog. We had all the luxuries of being at home. We will definitely make this our #1 goto when staying in Urbanna!!!

Area and people are great but..

  • 2 of 5

Upon arrival the house had not been cleaned. Numerous attempts were made to contact the owner that went unanswered.

We eventually received an email response late in the evening informing us they were out of the country and uncontactable for a few days. By that time we had already cleaned the kitchen, bathrooms and done the laundry to have bed linens and towels. We also had gone to the store to buy toilet paper, paper towels, etc.

It would have been nice if this fact had been made known, or at least making it a point to make sure we had an alternate contact phone number. There was one listed in the rental agreement but I could not access it online until the next day.

The ice maker does not work and no ice was left for us as stated it would be. There are no directions for working the fireplace so not sure if it works. The trash can lid won't stay closed and pops open randomly.

The housekeeper did call and come by the next day and offered to clean and bring anything we needed. She was very apologetic and helpful.

I had asked the owner (via email) to call us upon arrival back in the country a couple of days later. They never did.

He did respond with an email apology a couple of days later and a partial refund.

FYI- Note the request in the rental agreement to keep dogs on the lower level. It is the garage with a cement floor, a bedroom and bath you access from the garage, and the laundry room leading outside to the fenced area. There is very little grass, but lots of mole/vole tunnels. Be prepared for dirty dogs.

Thanks for the partial refund but, especially since we requested a phone call, email was not an acceptable form of issue resolution.
