A spectacular corner of the world viewed from a homey cottage

  • 5 of 5

Everything about Whaleback Cottage is perfect. The cottage itself is charming from the antique chandelier to the living room surrounded with great views of the oceanfront to the nearby pond filled with water lilies.

There are paths to explore, decks to gather on and a fire pit to sit around at night.

The kitchen is well supplied, and the bedrooms are charming.

And, of course, there is the ocean and many ways to explore the magnificent rock formations along the ocean front.

A wonderful retreat.

Whalesback cottage review May 16th

  • 5 of 5

Whalesback Cottage was such an incredible place to stay. We could not of picked a more perfect location visiting Nova Scotia. What a lovely cottage, very private with all of the amenities one could need. It was just decorated so lovely with the most incredible views of the ocean and Peggy’s Cove. Even more it was very convenient to an incredible amount of local restaurants that were very close. We spent the majority of our time just enjoying the most beautiful ocean views and walking the coast. Halifax, Mohane’s Bay and Lunenberg are less than an hour away. And most of all Tom and Donna the hosts were fantastic. They were so gracious and kind! Tom made sure he could give you the best info on where to visit. with his wealth of knowledge. Luv this place and the owners. Can’t wait to come back. Thank you Tom and Donna! Also must visit their gallery and have lunch at the Yardarm restaurant right next door. It is across the street from the cottage.

Spectacular view. Warm and generous host. Whales!

  • 5 of 5

Visiting Nova Scotia for the first time, Whalesback was just what I had hoped to experience and more. Hearing the crashing waves, seeing whales and hiking to Peggys Cove are a few highlights. Tom was wonderful and helped us navigate the area. Thank you.

Breathtaking location

  • 4 of 5

The Whalesback Cottage is a beautiful place on the ocean. It was a good location as we did some day trips to Halifax and Lunenburg with no problem.

I would recommend the stay!

Great Family Time in Canada!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family wanted an adventure in Nova Scotia and what an adventure we had! The house and location are straight out of a movie. The house (I believe) is over 150 years old, set on one of the most scenic pieces of property in the world. The views are to die for and change daily and sometimes hourly. When clear, you can see thousands of stars, countless lighthouses, and miles of ocean. When foggy, it is straight out of a suspense novel. Both were so fun to be a part of. For wildlife, we saw a bald eagle perched on the large rock right outside close to the water, Canadian geese, porpoises, and one seal that was right out in front of the house for hours (I sent Tom a picture which he might add to the listing).

We ate like kings when we were there. The local seafood was amazing! Best meal I have ever had.

The house is central enough for easy drives to Halifax, Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, and Kejimkujik National Park. We spent time at all four and really enjoyed each location. Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse is so close too!

Tom was great and made the trip memorable by really providing tailored advice for the family!!
