1820's artist owned cape on 50+ acres near town and mid coast activities

Bedrooms 4
Space 1,400 sq ft
Property type farmhouse

About the property

This antique country farmhouse is near the Thomaston town center offering a country setting with town amenities. A short drive to summer activities and festivals in the Rockland, Camden area. One and a half hours from Portland or Bangor. Where the mountains meet the sea, take pleasure in the nearby beaches, parks, lobsters, light houses, lakes, golf, skiing in winter. Many scenic and historical sites for day trips. An hour to Bowdoin or Colby colleges.

The home has 3,075 feet of tidal frontage on the Oyster River. There are three bedrooms and a bath, one double bed first floor, two single beds in rooms upstairs. Other bed arrangements can be made for longer stays if needed. It has a washer dryer, and all bedding etc. is included. Enjoy the mowed walking trails through 50 acres of hay fields. If lucky you may, toward dusk, spot an albino deer in a field by the pine woods. Lots of other animal and birds to see.

Pet and child friendly. Owned by artists living in the pumpkin colored farm house next door. A private painting lesson can also be arranged or ask for a tour of the barn and studio.

Feel free to pick the raspberries when in season and enjoy the gardens. A nice collection of games and reading material for a rainy day, also wifi and cable television.

Take a walk to the small cabin in the back field. Sit by a campfire in the evening. Listen to the peepers and watch fireflies sparkle in summer evenings.

We had an absolutely perfect stay! Everything was provided and then some. It’s a stunning property, which we loved roaming with our dog. We couldn’t ask for more and can’t wait to come back!

A warm and cozy winter retreat with access to winter activities just outside the front door!

  • 5 of 5

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this charming 1820's New England cape. The house offers plenty of room, comfortably accommodating additional family members for several days, and the snow covered farm provided plenty of outdoor entertainment for all. I'm in complete agreement with previous reviews that the Van Campens are wonderful, welcoming hosts. I look forward to visiting again to experience this beautiful retreat in spring, summer, and fall.

Cozy, welcoming experience

  • 5 of 5

This house is beautiful if you love the look and feel of old New England. Big house with lots of bedrooms. Furnished mostly with 18 century style. The three of us each had a bedroom and were warm and comfortable for our Thanksgiving holiday. Close enough to Portland for a day visit and far away to feel like a real get away. House was stocked with eggs and coffee for the morning. Owners were gracious in giving us lots of privacy. The property is gorgeous for a walk to the water and a kayak is provided for use in the summer. Just a simple lovely house.

Beautiful Maine cape nestled in lovely fields

  • 5 of 5

A friend of mine and I stayed here just for a night before heading on a longer camping expedition. Both native Mainers we very much enjoyed the house: its architecture, decoration, layout, feel. While only there a short while, we very much enjoyed the surrounding grounds.

Tim and Sue were very considerate hosts, and clearly put a lot into this home. Strongly recommend!

Beautiful historic farmhouse!

  • 5 of 5

Tim and Susan were wonderful hosts. They provided a nice assortment of treats in the fridge when we arrived, we had full access to their wonderful property and had questions answered whenever we had them. As an added bonus we got to view the art they produce on site and had a chance to start our collection! What a perfect spot to enjoy a weekend in Mid-coast Maine in the fall.
