About Owner/Manager Donna Caldwell
I grew up in Florida, moved to Texas and then California but I have called Western NC home for the past 25 years. I love the climate, the people and the mountains in this area. It is truly a wonderful place to live and vacation.
Owner/Manager Donna Caldwell purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Owner/Manager Donna Caldwell chose Sylva
I fell in love with this property from the moment I saw it. It has a very special feel about it and is private without being difficult to reach. I like spending time in this cottage in every season and others who have been here like it immediately too.
What makes this Cottage unique
This cottage is easily accessible from the highway, making it easy to get to shopping, recreation, and sightseeing locations. Yet, with no other houses visible nearby, it feels very private and secluded. That combination is hard to find in the mountains.

Charming little section of peace and quiet. The mountain setting and seclusion was very enjoyable.
With all the hustle and bustle of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge during the holiday week, this home away from home in the mountains was a breath of fresh air.
Awesome place to stay and relax
Beautiful clean home away from home
Cozy cottage in the mountains!
We really enjoyed our little break in the mountains!!! A few little troubles at the beginning but quickly fixed by Donna and John!!!! TV reception only happened in daytime. No FOX news for us, but just as well!!!!! Thanks so much to yall for sharing this wonderful cottage with us!!!
The perfect get away cottage!
The cottage is a well-kept house. I ’m a little OCD and I thank God the place was super clean. The cottage is on a hill where you see the highway but that did not bother us. We went to visit our twin girls for their birthday which they both attend WCU. I was able to give them and their college friends a home-cooked meal.
lovely cottage for great price--but close to highway
We really loved our stay at White Sage Cottage. Our two children particularly loved the huge backyard, fire pit, etc. Some of the other reviews mentioned the traffic noise, but I just didn't realize the highway is right below the house, and it was rather noisy. But it was still hard to beat such a charming cottage for a great price and we very much enjoyed our post-Christmas stay there.
Compfortable stay with in our budget
Overall we liked our stay. We stayed at this place while we are visiting Cataloochee Ski Area. One observation is, this cottage is very small in every aspect. Bunk beds are very small and if your kids are older than 10 years old I wouldn’t recommend it. Also cable/dish network didn’t work and internet is very slow. TVs and beds require an upgrade. Otherwise John and Donna kept the cottage very neat and well maintained. Thanks to both of you for sharing your cottage with us.
In addition to the mountain recreational activities and the Indian Casino and Reservation, be sure to check out the motorcycle rallies and events in Maggie Valley, NC in May, August and September.
