Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Minnesota

2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6 (2 beds + loft)

Secluded single family home on 40 heavily wooded acres...yet only 10-min from the scenic North Shore and only 20-min to downtown Duluth! The starry nights are spectacular away from the city lights and the sights & sounds of wildlife are everywhere.

The Space

Our single level 30' x 40' guest home (built in '06) has an open floor plan. The great room measures 18' x 30' and has a spacious kitchen and dining area on one side with the living room/TV viewing area on the other. The two bedrooms are located at the front of the house...one has a queen bed and the other a double with the latter room also having a loft directly overhead... which is ideal for two children... sleeping bags required. The back of the house has a fairly large bathroom which doubles as the utility room. The washer and dryer are located here, which guests are welcome to use.

Guest Access

A fully functional wood burning stove is centrally located in the great room. Guests are welcome to use it...my wife & I heated this home for 6-years almost exclusively with wood. Firewood is provided at no charge. As a back-up, there are individual electric wall heaters in each room.

Interaction with Guests

My wife & I are in the midst of finishing our retirement home which is located in the middle of our 40-acres, so we are only a 5-minute walk up the driveway should guests have questions or need our assistance in anyway.

The Neighborhood

Breathtaking views along the shore of Lake Superior are just 10-minutes away! Stroll along the beach or bike, roller blade, jog or walk along dedicated paved pathways. The Lakeside residential community is only 5-minutes further where you’ll find an awesome city park, 27 hole golf course, craft shops, bakery, grocery store, gas stations as well as a convenient place to pick up subs, pizzas, etc.

Closer to home, guests are welcome to hike along the walking trails that we've cleared on our private 40-acres or, crossover onto 100’s of acres of adjoining State property to explore even more! Wild raspberries are often plentiful along the trails in late July/early August and wild hazelnuts are ready for picking in August….provided you get to them before the squirrels and deer do! The north side of our property is peppered with numerous Maples so during Sept/Oct, a walk through the woods becomes exceptionally brilliant with all of the Fall colors!

Guests are also encouraged to simply sit back, relax and enjoy the campfire area. (Campfire wood is provided at no charge.) I personally never get tired of listening to the sounds of the night accompanied by a spectacular star lit sky… all from a front row seat in this country setting!

Getting around

While a bike ride to Lake Superior is not out of the question...particularly since it is mostly downhill, the return trip could be a real bear! We're in the country, so personal transportation is necessary!

Myself, husband, 5 year old son, my mother and our 2 small dogs spent this past October weekend (4 days) at Woodsy Lodging. I think my title says it all! Why would anyone stay in a hotel downtown? Royal and his wife have appointed the "cabin" so thoroughly you will want for nothing! When we weren't taking in the scenic drive from the cabin down the road to town and other sight-seeing destinations, with Lake Superior spread out before us like a giant present, we spent our time; playing some of the many board games they have, watching one of their MANY DVD selections, cooking, eating, sitting outside by the fire pit roasting S'Mores, taking long strolls around the property with the dogs, playing frizbee in the front yard (they have TONS of outdoor games too - even a basketball hoop!), or just napping and relaxing inside this beautiful cabin in the woods.

If we had stayed at a hotel we would have been so very limited for activities outside of sight-seeing time. And being able to cook our own meals, sit outside enjoying our coffee, or inside watching the morning news, or just snoozing in the late afternoon after a "hard day" of playing, was priceless. It is so private yet you have every single modern convenience at your disposal; WIFI, washer and dryer, a full kitchen, flat screen TV, DVD player...I can't even list of all of the amenities. Royal has thought of every single detail. There's an umbrella by the front door! Several flashlights in the bathroom, the beds having heating blankets! Want to build a fire, there is MORE than enough wood and kindling.

Thank you Royal for creating such an amazing place for others to enjoy! And we love your newest addition, the perfect enclosed gazebo space - I'm guessing there will be no better place to sit, relax and and enjoy a long summer evening bug-free!

Wonderful property and hosts

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at the Woodsy Lodge. The home has absolutely everything you need, from kitchen and bathroom supplies to board games and outdoor toys, making it a comfortable stay away from home. And we just loved that we were able to travel with our Lab -- he loved running up and down the main road on the property and chasing birds between the trees! Woodsy Lodge is definitely a place we'd recommend -- and visit again.

Absolutely fantastic stay at Woodsy Lodge

Loved our stay at Woodsy Lodge. Everything you would ever need was at your finger tips. It was relaxing and a great bonding time with our adult children that live a distance from us. Five star for sure.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The rental was awesome! It was a ways out, but very quiet. We weren't able to get our phone service, but

that was fine. The only thing I would suggest is, it is very dark out there at night, so more lights leading to

the fire pit would be nice. THE Cabin had everything we needed. There wasn't one thing the hosts did not

think of. Thank you!! We would stay again!!!!

A fantastic way to experience the Northland!

  • 5 of 5

Super friendly hosts who have gone over the top to make this place inviting whether you plan to explore Duluth and the North Shore or just chill out and experience the north woods right there. As many others have commented, the hosts have provided pretty much everything and anything you would want and the place is super clean. Having lived in this area ourselves in the past we can attest to the great location if you want a spot that gives you the feeling of being out in the woods while being not far from attractions in Duluth or along the lake shore. The McQuade Safe Harbor is a short drive and is an excellent new addition to the area for boaters and kayakers. If you're into road cycling (a ride up the Northshore is absolutly a must!), MTBing or cross country skiing this area is a gold mine. It's great to spend the day exploring and have such a homey place to come back to and relax in the evening. Well done Woodsy Lodging!!
