Overview

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday home in Gaucín - Tamarind

1 Bedroom with twin beds plus double sofa bed in lounge, 1 bathroom

Tamarind is a superior village house with two spacious floors and a roof terrace. Situated in a quiet village street with ample parking, several shops and the open air swimming pool close by. Ground floor consists of entrance hall with toilet & washroom, spacious lounge with double sofa bed, dining area &fully equipped kitchen with breakfast bar. Two south facing balconies provide views across the village. An open staircase leads to the first floor bedroom with ensuite toilet and adjacent shower room. Two balconies provide views over the village. Access to the roof terrace is through a small casita reached by an open staircase. The terrace has a sun awning and cold shower and is complete with terrace furniture & loungers.

Local amenities: Gaucin has an open air swimming pool surrounded by gardens usually open from June to September. There are two tennis courts with a poolside restaurant. The village has two banks with cash machines, two small supermarkets and several small shops selling all your everyday requirements. There is a small daily market with a fish stall, churros, butcher and greengrocer. There are several restaurants serving varied cuisine and prices to match. The village has ample bars where you can relax with a Rioja, a beer or sample the delicious tapas that are served almost everywhere. All bars serve coffee and soft drinks. During the summer months there are several fiestas commencing with Santa Semana at Easter and finishing with Santo Nino (the local saint) in late August.

Public Transport: Gaucin railway station is situated in the adjoining village of El Colmenar(13kms) distance. From here there are daily trains from Algeciras to Granada. At Bobadilla there are connections for Seville, Malaga & Cordoba as well as services beyond .e.g Madrid.

At the ports of Algeciras and Tarifa(1 hr) there are fast ferries to N.Africa and a day trip to Tangier is quite achievable. There is also a ferry service to N.Africa from Malaga during the summer months.A visit to Gibraltar by train (via Algeciras) would be possible.

An Autobus service runs through Gaucin on a daily basis from Algeciras to Ronda. .

There is a taxi service in the village situated in the plaza.

Whilst you may see many burros in the village these are not usually for hire as transport!!

Tamarind: Tamarind is a 3 storey house set in a tranquil part of this Spanish working village. All of the neighbours are Spanish and their friendliness and warmth just comes naturally. The whole village has a sense of community that extends to visitors also.

There are several walks that start & finish in the village including a visit to the magnificent El Castillo & its museum (a tribute to Santa Nino). The castle is normally floodlit on week ends which makes it even more splendid.Another favourite jaunt is down the Camino de Gibraltar, an old mule track which ends at the Ermita del Santo Nino. Also close by are several forest walks where you may be lucky enough to see some wild pigs. Whichever ramble you choose you will be impressed by the flora and mountain ranges where you may glimpse the soaring eagles and vultures.

About Barbara Tibbatts

We are both retired now living on a smallholding in the Yorkshire Dales

Barbara Tibbatts purchased this house in 1994

Why Barbara Tibbatts chose Ronda area

We had our first holiday in Gaucin in 1993 while I was recuperating from a serious illness. This was our first visit to Spain. We fell in love with the village, the people and its laid back lifestyle. We became aware that Tamarind was for sale but had no intention of purchasing a foreign home. On arrival home we debated the prospect of purchasing Tamarind and contacted the vendor. The following year we stayed in Tamarind over the Easter period, a special time in Spain and decided to purchase the property.Over all the subsequent years we have taken holidays there at all different times of the year and now we feel a part of the village having made many Spanish friends there.

What makes this house unique

The house has a very homely feel and we continue to make improvements in order to keep the house in good repair. Tamarind is a typical Spanish house in a working village. There are stunning views especially in the evenings, from the terrace over the Campo de Gibraltar and to the coast of North Africa.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Chris & I have just spent a glorious two weeks in your lovely home Tamarind in Gaucin. I can only commend the beautiful condition of your home - everywhere was immaculate. Rosalind Baxter Uxbridge Middlesex

We both had a thoroughly wonderful time, enjoyed the house and Gaucin so much it was a struggle to leave. Even the neighbours came out to say goodbye. Tony & Chris Leeds

Thank you once again for a super place to escape to! We enjoyed being there just as much, if not more than last year. A true escape. Hopefully we will return soon. Gill Twinning, Grimsby

A very comfortable house

  • 4 of 5

The house was every thing we expected and more. It was very comfortable, spacious and very well equipped with everything you would need during your stay. It was very hot when we were there yet the house stayed comfortably cool throughout the day. The roof terrace has wonderful views and with our friends, who were staying in another property, had some long, relaxing meals while enjoying the view across the valley down to the coast. Barbara made booking a straight-forward and reliable process. With luck we hope to get back to Tamarind one day.

A lovely, traditional Spanish home

  • 5 of 5

We spent 10 days at the house during August. On arrival we surprised and delighted on the house being well equipped and so spacious.

This house has everything you want on your visit to Gaucin. There is parking just outside the house, and it is in within walking distance of the tapas bars. The roof terrace has a lovely view, and is ideal for having evening meals and relaxing through the day.

We would highly recommend going to the vineyard just down the road, it was extremely cheap and a great experience. We also visited Seville as it is only a couple hours drive away, and its definitely worth a visit.

Tamarind had everything we needed to have a comfortable and relaxing holiday.

See you next year!

Heavenly

  • 5 of 5

We had the good fortune to stay in Tamarind for a week in August. From our very first contact with Barbara the owner, everything was perfect. The hosue is as described on the website, but better. It is exceptionally well equipped with all the essentials - plenty of crockery, glasses, kitchen equipment, espresso machine, microwave, washing machine, Bose cd player, TV with lots of channels, a huge selection of books - to mention but a few.

The roof terrace has the most magnificent views and is well equipped with sun loungers, wooden dining furniture and awnings that can be extended for shade.

The location, on Calle Barrio Alto a few doors from the wonderful el Atico restaurant is very convenient for all Gaucín amenities. Parking was no problem - we were able to park directly outside the door or 10 yards from the house.

Barbara is the most considerate owner and made sure we enjoyed our stay. We hope to go back.

Owner's Response: Thank you for this wonderful review. I do try to make things simple and straightforward for the client regarding access etc. We always try to visit at least two or three times each year to check the house stays in a good condition replacing things as necessary. We think of Tamarind as our home not just a holiday rental and want to make it as comfortable as possible. We have always found the village very friendly and we are in a good position in the village - quiet yet with easy access to the centre of the village. We are pleased when our clients take the time to write a review especially such a good one.

Just Lovely

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Tamarind for a few days in preparation for our wedding in April '15. It was the perfect base for us in Gaucín, just at the edge of the village with easy car access and a short stroll into the heart of the village. The house is excellent, traditionally styled, spacious and comfortable. The roof top deck is just the icing on the cake - the views are breathtaking.

Still sheer bliss

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from our second visit to Tamarind and absolutely loved it. The house is so comfortable and well equipped but once again we spent most of our time on the roof terrace with its fantastic views. The village is an absolute delight so peaceful but with a great selection of bars and restaurants and such friendly locals. There are plenty of places to visit should you feel the need we did have a couple of days out we visited Tarifa which we enjoyed and a couple of other white towns but were more than happy to spend most of our time in Gaucin. Once again Barbara thank you for allowing us to stay in your lovely home and we hope to visit again when possible.

A great place to chill

  • 5 of 5

After the crowds in the galleries, museums and cities in the North, this little white village of Gaucin was a wonderful place to relax. Tamarind is a very special place in Gaucin in which we immediately felt relaxed, comfortable an at home. Stunning views to the Mediterranean from the roof terrace where a relaxing afternoon glass or three became a ritual. Tamarind is spacious, clean and very well equipped. Although small, the village has excellent cafes and bars, an easy stroll from the house. Tamarind is highly recommended. A gem.

Gaucin, once a smugglers den lies on the route between Gibraltar and Ronda. One of the pueblo blancos, distinctly Moorish, with narrow winding streets & dazzling white houses clinging to the mountainside. Perched high in the mountains and surrounded by almond & olive trees Gaucin boasts an eagle's eyrie of a fortress known as El Castillo de'Aguila. The village has several restaurants and tapas bars. Gaucin is within easy striking distance of Ronda with its famous Gorge de Tajo and Plaza de Toros, second oldest bullring in Spain. Further afield but accessible are the cities of Granada (with its famous Alhambra) Seville,Cordoba and Jerez. The Parque Natural at Grazalema is a must for walkers and wildlife aficionados alike where a walk/picnic in the cork forests will simply delight you.

Other Activities: Bird watching, wildlife, walking ,flora etc.
