There are several walks that start & finish in the village including a visit to the magnificent El Castillo & its museum (a tribute to Santa Nino). The castle is normally floodlit on week ends which makes it even more splendid.Another favourite jaunt is down the Camino de Gibraltar, an old mule track which ends at the Ermita del Santo Nino. Also close by are several forest walks where you may be lucky enough to see some wild pigs. Whichever ramble you choose you will be impressed by the flora and mountain ranges where you may glimpse the soaring eagles and vultures.
We are both retired now living on a smallholding in the Yorkshire Dales
Barbara Tibbatts purchased this house in 1994
We had our first holiday in Gaucin in 1993 while I was recuperating from a serious illness. This was our first visit to Spain. We fell in love with the village, the people and its laid back lifestyle. We became aware that Tamarind was for sale but had no intention of purchasing a foreign home. On arrival home we debated the prospect of purchasing Tamarind and contacted the vendor. The following year we stayed in Tamarind over the Easter period, a special time in Spain and decided to purchase the property.Over all the subsequent years we have taken holidays there at all different times of the year and now we feel a part of the village having made many Spanish friends there.
The house has a very homely feel and we continue to make improvements in order to keep the house in good repair. Tamarind is a typical Spanish house in a working village. There are stunning views especially in the evenings, from the terrace over the Campo de Gibraltar and to the coast of North Africa.
Chris & I have just spent a glorious two weeks in your lovely home Tamarind in Gaucin. I can only commend the beautiful condition of your home - everywhere was immaculate. Rosalind Baxter Uxbridge Middlesex
We both had a thoroughly wonderful time, enjoyed the house and Gaucin so much it was a struggle to leave. Even the neighbours came out to say goodbye. Tony & Chris Leeds
Thank you once again for a super place to escape to! We enjoyed being there just as much, if not more than last year. A true escape. Hopefully we will return soon. Gill Twinning, Grimsby
We spent 10 days at the house during August. On arrival we surprised and delighted on the house being well equipped and so spacious.
This house has everything you want on your visit to Gaucin. There is parking just outside the house, and it is in within walking distance of the tapas bars. The roof terrace has a lovely view, and is ideal for having evening meals and relaxing through the day.
We would highly recommend going to the vineyard just down the road, it was extremely cheap and a great experience. We also visited Seville as it is only a couple hours drive away, and its definitely worth a visit.
Tamarind had everything we needed to have a comfortable and relaxing holiday.
See you next year!
We had the good fortune to stay in Tamarind for a week in August. From our very first contact with Barbara the owner, everything was perfect. The hosue is as described on the website, but better. It is exceptionally well equipped with all the essentials - plenty of crockery, glasses, kitchen equipment, espresso machine, microwave, washing machine, Bose cd player, TV with lots of channels, a huge selection of books - to mention but a few.
The roof terrace has the most magnificent views and is well equipped with sun loungers, wooden dining furniture and awnings that can be extended for shade.
The location, on Calle Barrio Alto a few doors from the wonderful el Atico restaurant is very convenient for all Gaucín amenities. Parking was no problem - we were able to park directly outside the door or 10 yards from the house.
Barbara is the most considerate owner and made sure we enjoyed our stay. We hope to go back.
We stayed in Tamarind for a few days in preparation for our wedding in April '15. It was the perfect base for us in Gaucín, just at the edge of the village with easy car access and a short stroll into the heart of the village. The house is excellent, traditionally styled, spacious and comfortable. The roof top deck is just the icing on the cake - the views are breathtaking.
Just returned from our second visit to Tamarind and absolutely loved it. The house is so comfortable and well equipped but once again we spent most of our time on the roof terrace with its fantastic views. The village is an absolute delight so peaceful but with a great selection of bars and restaurants and such friendly locals. There are plenty of places to visit should you feel the need we did have a couple of days out we visited Tarifa which we enjoyed and a couple of other white towns but were more than happy to spend most of our time in Gaucin. Once again Barbara thank you for allowing us to stay in your lovely home and we hope to visit again when possible.
After the crowds in the galleries, museums and cities in the North, this little white village of Gaucin was a wonderful place to relax. Tamarind is a very special place in Gaucin in which we immediately felt relaxed, comfortable an at home. Stunning views to the Mediterranean from the roof terrace where a relaxing afternoon glass or three became a ritual. Tamarind is spacious, clean and very well equipped. Although small, the village has excellent cafes and bars, an easy stroll from the house. Tamarind is highly recommended. A gem.
Absolutely perfect. Tamarind had everything we needed. The roof terrace was ideal for relaxing while taking in the beautiful views. The village has plenty of places to eat and drink and is lovely just to have a walk around and take in the scenery.
Would definitely recommend and hope to return.
Gaucin, once a smugglers den lies on the route between Gibraltar and Ronda. One of the pueblo blancos, distinctly Moorish, with narrow winding streets & dazzling white houses clinging to the mountainside. Perched high in the mountains and surrounded by almond & olive trees Gaucin boasts an eagle's eyrie of a fortress known as El Castillo de'Aguila. The village has several restaurants and tapas bars. Gaucin is within easy striking distance of Ronda with its famous Gorge de Tajo and Plaza de Toros, second oldest bullring in Spain. Further afield but accessible are the cities of Granada (with its famous Alhambra) Seville,Cordoba and Jerez. The Parque Natural at Grazalema is a must for walkers and wildlife aficionados alike where a walk/picnic in the cork forests will simply delight you.
Other Activities: Bird watching, wildlife, walking ,flora etc.
