Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Órgiva - Casa Rosada

Sleeps 6 + baby (2 bedrooms, 2 en-suite bathrooms, sofa bed in living room)

Casa Rosada boasts the perfect village location: serene rural setting, yet less than 10 min walk to the centre of Orgiva, a bustling market town. This charming, fully equipped and air-conditioned 2-bedroom traditional stone cottage has a 9m x 4m filtered (depth 1.5m x 2.2m) pool exclusively for guests, 2 en-suite bathrooms, satellite TV, ICD, DVD, Internet, table tennis and barbecue. The pool is fenced off for children's safety. Laze by the pool in perfect privacy in the pretty, walled garden, invisible to the world, with only nature to look at, listening to bird song. Nestling in a valley at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, Casa Rosada is ideally located to explore the best of the Alpujarras - the authentic Spain, the cradle of flamenco. The vibrant city of Granada with its must-see Alhambra is just 1 hr away. The beach, golf and the many picturesque ancient Moorish mountain villages with numerous fiestas all within ½ hr drive.

The house is suitable for children as the garden is fully enclosed, all the doors, windows and the patio are protected by metal grills and it is not near a busy road. The 9 x 4 m private pool for the exclusive use of guests is fenced off as a safety measure. The house is a bungalow. Casa Rosada now has table tennis.

Babies and toddlers can sleep in the cot or on the sofa bed in the spacious master bedroom. Older children can sleep in the double bedroom which is 3 m away from the parents' bedroom via a safe private porch (with two steps), protected by a metal grill and not accessible from the outside. There is a small sofa bed in the master bedroom.

This is a self-catering villa.

We provide information about supermarkets opening hours, with directions, should you be arriving late. If you want a hamper on arrival with some basic foodstuffs, our house-keeper can arrange that, for a small charge (6 euro plus the invoiced cost of food, which you would need to specify in advance).

Best Casa to Date

  • 5 of 5

Having Holidayed in Orgiva on four occasions this has been our chosen accommodation for two of those stays there.

We came back this year because quite simply, we have yet to find anywhere better.

The walled Garden is totally secluded with some beautiful planting. Plenty of Oranges and a relaxing swinging seat on which to eat them.

The pool is a good size and nice and deep. Anda has had a wrought iron fence built around the pool entrance since last we stayed which makes things safer if you have small children.

Half of the holiday was just spent in the garden relaxing its so peaceful and enchanting... "You can check out any time, but you can never leave" sort of thing.

Inside is well equipped and the bedroom annex seems to induce a deep peaceful sleep.

The beech only takes about half an hour to get to now the roads have been improved and Orgiva has some great restaurants and bars where you can eat great food and drink great local wines (or beer in my case) for a lot less than you pay on the coast. Because of our consumption of the afore mentioned on our gourmet nights We often drove into town and took the ten minuet walk back to the Casa along the track which takes about ten minutes.

The town is very Spanish, the people friendly and helpful. So too are Anda and Carmen who are always available to help with any inquiry both before and during the holiday.

We love the mountains coming from Scotland so the scenery is a bit like home but without the cold winds, rain and midges.

We are going back to Orgiva in October to try another of Anda's properties. Cant wait.

By the way I only put pen to paper if I have positive things to say. We have stayed in some dumps all over Europe in our time but these are best left undocumented and forgotten Casa Rosada will be remembered for times to come for all the right reasons.

Charming cottage in gorgeous walled gardens

  • 5 of 5

We have just stayed in Casa Rosada - with lovely, swimmable weather in early October! Casa Rosada is the perfect place to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the unspolit Spanish countryside, while being only a few minutes' walk into town, and if you prefer to drive, there is a private car park right next to the house.

We loved the private pool with mountain view, surrounded by flowers, and the freedom to be completely un-overlooked - also while swimming. The interior of the house is thoughtfully and tastefully equipped with everything we needed. The house is very peaceful and secure for children and it was easy to keep an eye on my 7-year old daughter while she played.

When we finally did tear ourselves away from the poolside, Orgiva has many bars and restaurants within a short stroll, and there are interesting villages nearby for day trips, such as Pampaneira and Bubion. Lovely beaches are 30 minutes away, and the stunning, historic Granada an hour door-to-door.

Casa Rosada in an absolute gem, perfect for restorative break; only wish we could have stayed longer. But we will certainly return!

A very relaxing place

  • 4 of 5

The property provided a very relaxing holiday. It is secluded and shady whilst still offering plenty of opportunity to sunbathe. Clean and reasonably well stocked, do take your own kitchen towels. The showers were disappointing, powerful but cheap fittings so rarely stayed still sending water everywhere and the one by the twin room is hand held only! The mountains are stunning and hide some very pretty villages to drive out to. The driveway is not for the cautious driver, whilst wide enough it is more like a rocky mountain path and would recommend a 4x4. We felt it as also too dusty and dark to make a pleasant walk to the village for dinner so ended up driving.

Owner's Response: Shower heads: we have already changed them. They were fine the week before your holiday - you only had to ask, and Carmen would have gladly changed them - and added more tea towels! As for 'rocks'... I think you are referring to the gravel on the drive, which, incidentally is a rew metres long gentle incline. No-one has ever mentioned finding it strange to drive on before, let alone need a 4x4...

Most relaxing Holiday ever!

  • 5 of 5

Having stayed in Orgiva twice before in very nice villas, I wanted to make sure I chose another that was just as good after reading load of reviews, we settled on this one.... We were not disappointed Casa Rosada is the perfect get away from it all (without being far from town) . We had a great time it the most relaxing holiday ever! Casa Rosada is enclosed in a walled garden making it very private & secure.

Anda provided us with very useful information. The car hire she recommended was the bargain of the holiday!

Our Flight was delayed nearly 3 hours due to the French air traffic control a quick phone call to Carmen (who will meet you in Orgiva & show you to the villa) and we rearranged the meeting time.

There is loads to do in the area, the beach & Moorish Castle in Salobreña, Alhambra Palace in Granada, if you fancy a longer trip Ronda is a fascinating city, also the market on Thursdays in Orgiva will get you some bargains, If you’re buying clothing etc make sure you haggle over the price,

All in all it was a perfect holiday and highly recommended, we have just booked up for next year in another of Anda's properties, but we may be back to this one in the future

Lovely house with stunning garden and pool

  • 5 of 5

We had a totally relaxing fortnight at Casa Rosada. The house had everything we needed - wifi much appreciated! - although most of our time there was spent in the garden. The views are stunning and it was great to have a good sized pool to cool off. Several places to eat and drink out in Orgiva - we enjoyed being able to stroll into the town at night, but take a torch for the walk back! Further afield there are loads of beaches and lovely mountain villages to discover. A great holiday, thanks!

Car: recommended

Orgiva is a bustling little market town, ideally located: ½ hr from the sea and unspoilt beaches and 1 hr from the vibrant city of Granada. There are numerous supermarkets, bars, restaurants, health food shops, banks, ATMs, pharmacies, a cinema and a Medical Centre. Orgiva is at the heart of ‘real Spain’ with its fiesta spirit. This part of Andalucia – known as Las Alpujarras – is the famous cradle of flamenco. It remains one of Europe´s most spectacular, peaceful and unspoilt areas, with unrivalled quality of light and unforgettable starry skies.

Orgiva nestles in a valley, surrounded by the foothills of the dramatic Sierra Nevada mountains (3 500 m, 39 ski runs).

Here, you can swim in your pool or eat oranges straight from the tree – against the backdrop of snow-capped peaks. From nearby hills, on a clear day, you can see not only the Mediterranean, but even Africa – the Rif Mountains of Morocco.

Must-see: Granada and the world-famous Alhambra Palace, a masterpiece of intricate Moorish architecture to rival the Taj Mahal, renowned for its fabled gardens and ornamental fountains (1 hr / 50 km away).

Mediterranean beaches: the nearest seaside town is the picturesque Salobreña (1/2 hr away) with a Moorish castle on a towering rock. Drowning in tropical flowers, with palm-lined avenues, Salobreña rises from the sea like a white wedding cake; it is still unspoilt by mass tourism, with numerous beach restaurants, water sports and a 9-hole golf course. Here, on the beach, you can eat fish caught locally the same day. The port of Motril (also ½ hr away) has a hospital, the Al Campo hypermarket and many good fish restaurants. For the aqua park, go a little further afield to Almunecar, and visit the garden sea resort of La Herradura. Do visit the pretty seaside town of Nerja, with some of the best beaches, and its magnificent caves - huge caverns which are home to the world's largest stalagmite.

Another must-see: the Poqueira Valley (15 min away): the ancient Moorish ‘white pueblos' Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira cling to the slopes of the Sierra Nevada – home to herds of wild mountain goats and wild boar. Here, time stands still and life goes on as of old; old men on donkeys or goatherds pass by and give you a friendly ‘hola’.

In the perfect, picture-postcard-pretty, tiny village of Pampaneira (15 min away by car), prepare to be seduced by its abundance of craft shops with local products - enticing both to look at and eat or drink, as well as many bars and restaurants with tasty local fare. Come with plenty of pocket money. And visit the chocolate factory! Buy (and read!) 'Driving over Lemons', the humorous and informative international best seller by the local writer Chris Stewart, which will bring closer to you the region and its inhabitants.

The area is a paradise for nature lovers, walkers, cyclists, bird watchers, artists - or just anyone who wants to 'get away from it all' or else simply have fun!

Granada airport (Hispania Airlines), 1 hr. Malaga airport 1 hr 45min; both also reachable by bus. Thus, although car hire is recommended, it is not indispensable.

Other activities available in Orgiva: yoga, massage, healing treatments, painting classes, dance classes. Recreation Centre in Orgiva: tennis, football, badminton, aerobics, a municipal swimming pool.

Golf: The nearest golf course is the 9-hole Los Mariscos on the Playa Granada beach near Salobrena, where there is also a bar and a restaurant (30 km away).

Skiing: There are few places in the world where you can ski in the morning then head to the coast for a swim in the afternoon, but the resort of Sierra Nevada at the altitude of 2 100m is one. There you can ski till the end of April - and head back to Orgiva to swim in the pool, surrounded by orange trees bearing both fruit and fragrant blossom.
