Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday villa in Órgiva - El Olivo

3 bedroom luxury villa, sleeps 6 + baby, 1 bathroom.

Sleeps 6 + baby. El Olivo is a 3 bedroom villa with a large private swimming pool, 11m x 5m (depth 1.5m - 2.2m), enclosed within a completely private, walled garden, which can be fenced off for the safety of small children, and with private parking within the property. Only a mile to the town of Orgiva with its bustling Thursday market, El Olivo offers a rural idyll, nestled amidst orange and olive groves in serene, picturesque countryside with panoramic moutain views. There is satellite TV, Internet, DVD and CD. A fenced-in area close to the pool allows parents to enjoy a peaceful swim knowing that the children are safe, whilst keeping an eye on them. Another fully enclosed terrace has secure private parking, a ping pong table and a large play area.

El Olivo is perfectly situated as a base for exploring the Alpujarras: it is an hour from Granada with its Alhambra, half an hour's drive from the beaches of Salobrena, a picturesque fishing town with a Moorish castle, and a similar distance from the ancient Moorish white villages in the Sierra Nevada mountains

Coast/Beach, Golf, Skiing: Activities: walking, riding, yoga courses, massage (Thai, shiatsu, etc), painting classes. Information will be provided on arrival.

Get in touch with the owner and ask for the details of the website for further information about the villa and the area, and for detailed information on how to get there, including seeking out the cheapest flights.

The nearest beach is Playa Granada, 30 kim away, with a wide sandy beach. There is a luxury restaurant, suitable for special occasions. OUr nearest coastal resort, the pretty white town of Salobrena with its exuberant tropical vegitation - 31 kim away (1/2 hr drive) - has a wealth of history, a spectacular Moorish castle perched on a rock, and a little cove with many good seafood restaurants, where you can have freshly caught local fish grilled on charcoal in front of you.

The nearest golf courses are on the coast in Playa Granada, just outside Salobrena, about 30km away (less than 1/2hr by car).

The ski resort of Sierra Nevada is about 60 km away and makes an exciting day trip in the season.

This is a self-catering villa.

You can find information about supermarkets opening hours, with directions, should you be arriving late. If you want a hamper on arrival with some basic foodstuffs, the owner can arrange that, for a small charge (6 euro plus the invoiced cost of food, which you would need to specify in advance).

Guest comment: What a fantastic holiday we had at the villa! The house was superb and the kids loved the swimming pool. The weather was gorgeous - we had a cloudless sky for the whole 2 weeks!!!!! The views surrounding the villa were breathtaking and we spent many a night lying on the sun loungers star gazing. We actually saw 3 shooting stars on our last night! A perfect end to a perfect holiday! Alison and family

Fantastic Villa in a Peaceful Setting

  • 5 of 5

This was our third time in Orgiva but this was by far the best Villa we have stayed at. The pool was a good size, very clean and a pleasant temperature during our stay in the hot summer heat. Our 10 year old daughter was in it from morning to night.

The terrace and outside seating areas were perfect for dining al fresco, star gazing and soaking up the views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

The Villa was very well equipped allowing us to be fully self sufficient with some luxuries including the dishwasher, washer/dryer and Sky TV. The rooms were all spacious, very clean and well fitted out.

The BBQ and ample sun loungers and seating allowed us to be outdoors most of the time. The short drive or walk into Orgiva was pleasant and this Town is great for eating out and getting all provisions needed.

The Villa is well situated allowing us to visit the White Villages in the mountains, The Alhambra in Granada and even Cordoba in a day. It is also great for children with the pool and space to play. We visited the Water Park near the Alhambra, the Science Park in Granada which is excellent plus visited the beaches (40 mins away) and went horse riding in the Parque Nacionale high above the nearby town of Lanjaron as recommended by the owners who were very helpful and nearby if needed but not at all intrusive

Prima verblijf in El Olivo!

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable, quiet, great location

  • 5 of 5

The nicest thing about this property is that it has outside seating and tables on each side of the house with ample chairs so you can move with the sun ( either to follow it or avoid it) and not have to keep shifting furniture. It is lovely to be able to sit outside on a comfortable cushioned chair, as you can in the pavilion, so often the outside seats in holiday homes are hard and uncomfortable. We spend many happy hours in the little pavilion at the end of the garden, with a breeze blowing through, just relaxing. The house was originally built by the owners for their own use and it shows in the little touches that make it more relaxing than many holiday homes. A proper kitchen with reasonable storage, a full sized fridge freezer , awnings on the sides of the house so you can choose to have shade or not . The location suited us, it is out on the road to the hamlet of Tijola, down the same lane as the Cortijo Romero retreat centre, if you know the area, with just a few other houses down the same lane so minimal traffic. this makes it very close to Orgiva (5 mins in a car) but very quiet . We have stayed in places that seemed remote but still had traffic noise from the road but this has none. Also the views of the mountains really are 360.

The owners live below the house, in what used to be the garage area, as the plot is terraced, this gives a lovely private roof terrace on top of their accomodation for you to use, perfect for breakfast or for star gazing at night. They are close enough to be available to help and to clean the pool, etc, but there is no noise or invasion of privacy.

It is a really lovely, special property and we hope to return, if it is still available next year

Wonderful villa surrounded by olive trees

  • 5 of 5

Lovely, well equipped villa with superb views of two mountain ranges from a choice of four separate seating areas. Large well maintained pool. Secluded, not overlooked in a terraced grove of olive trees, and just perfect for a week's break. Table tennis very popular with our teenage sons and a competitive dad. Swing chair popular with mum! Granada and Al Hambra within easy reach and a must do on anyone's list. Would certainly come again

Lovely villa in idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

This was our 3rd stay in El Olivo, and it is even better than before! We had a wonderful, relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings.

There are plenty of outside seating areas, particularly with the recent addition of the pagoda at the end of the garden, a perfect place for al fresco meals. We enjoyed many hours in the pool, which is an excellent size. The garden is very attractive and we spent most of our time outdoors. Also, more garden has been made available, with some new steps to the secure parking area. The swing chair was a popular spot, too! The upper terrace was our favourite venue for sunrise/breakfast and sunset/aperitiv, with fabulous views of the Sierra Nevada to one side and the Contraviesa range to the other. At night there were amazing views of the stars, without the distraction of city lights.

The villa is comfortable and clean, and the thick walls ensure a cool escape on really hot days. We slept well with the thick shutters cutting out the light in the morning. A big fridge freezer and a large flat screen TV are also welcome additions as we stayed for 4 weeks this time.

The Thursday market in Orgiva is a must for browsing, stocking up on fruit and veg and generally soaking up in the atmosphere. There are various good supermarkets in Orgiva (though do go to Gennaro?s for bread) but Al Campo in Motril, and Mercadona & Supersol in Salobrena provide a wider range. The coast is reached by the improved road system and lunch at one of the many chiringuitos along the beach at Salobrena is recommended.

The attractive White Villages are easily accessible by car e.g. about half an hour from the villa to Pampaneira, leading on up to Bubion and Capileira. Great for browsing and shopping - definitely the place for buying your gifts and souvenirs - we even managed to fit one of the large Alpujarran rugs in the boot of the car to bring home. The Alhambra is an hour?s drive away, but do book in advance from the official website to ensure entry.

In conclusion, El Olivo is a wonderful holiday villa. The owners are friendly and helpful but fully respect your privacy ... thank you, Carmen and Raoul. Very highly recommended. We certainly plan to return to such a beautiful and peaceful place.

Orgiva is a bustling little market town, ideally located: ½ hr from the sea and unspoilt beaches and 1 hr from the vibrant city of Granada. There are numerous supermarkets, bars, restaurants, health food shops, banks, ATMs, pharmacies, a cinema and a Medical Centre. Orgiva is at the heart of ‘real Spain’ with its fiesta spirit. This part of Andalucia – known as Las Alpujarras – is the famous cradle of flamenco. It remains one of Europe´s most spectacular, peaceful and unspoilt areas, with unrivalled quality of light and unforgettable starry skies.

Orgiva nestles in a valley, surrounded by the foothills of the dramatic Sierra Nevada mountains (3 500 m, 39 ski runs).

Here, you can swim in your pool or eat oranges straight from the tree – against the backdrop of snow-capped peaks. From nearby hills, on a clear day, you can see not only the Mediterranean, but even Africa – the Rif Mountains of Morocco.

Must-see: Granada and the world-famous Alhambra Palace, a masterpiece of intricate Moorish architecture to rival the Taj Mahal, renowned for its fabled gardens and ornamental fountains (1 hr / 50 km away).

Mediterranean beaches: the nearest seaside town is the picturesque Salobreña (1/2 hr away) with a Moorish castle on a towering rock. Drowning in tropical flowers, with palm-lined avenues, Salobreña rises from the sea like a white wedding cake; it is still unspoilt by mass tourism, with numerous beach restaurants, water sports and a 9-hole golf course. Here, on the beach, you can eat fish caught locally the same day. The port of Motril (also ½ hr away) has a hospital, the Al Campo hypermarket and many good fish restaurants. For the aqua park, go a little further afield to Almunecar, and visit the pretty, garden sea resort of La Herradura. Do visit the pretty seaside town of Nerja, with some of the best beaches, and its magnificent caves - huge caverns which are home to the world's largest stalagmite.

Another must-see: the Poqueira Valley (15 min away): the ancient Moorish ‘white pueblos' Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira cling to the slopes of the Sierra Nevada – home to herds of wild mountain goats and wild boar. Here, time stands still and life goes on as of old; old men on donkeys or goatherds pass by and give you a friendly ‘hola’.

In the perfect, picture-postcard-pretty, tiny village of Pampaneira (15 min away by car), prepare to be seduced by its abundance of craft shops with local products - enticing both to look at and eat or drink, as well as many bars and restaurants with tasty local fare. Come with plenty of pocket money. And visit the chocolate factory! Buy (and read!) 'Driving over Lemons', the humorous and informative international best seller by the local writer Chris Stewart, which will bring closer to you the region and its inhabitants.

The area is a paradise for nature lovers, walkers, cyclists, bird watchers, artists - or just anyone who wants to 'get away from it all' or else simply have fun!

Granada airport (Hispania Airlines), 1 hr. Malaga airport 1 hr 45min; both also reachable by bus. Thus, although car hire is recommended, it is not indispensable.

Other activities available in Orgiva: yoga, massage, healing treatments, painting classes, dance classes. Recreation Centre in Orgiva: tennis, football, badminton, aerobics, a municipal swimming pool.

Golf: The nearest golf course is the 9-hole Los Mariscos on the Playa Granada beach near Salobrena, where there is also a bar and a restaurant (30 km away).

Skiing: There are few places in the world where you can ski in the morning then head to the coast for a swim in the afternoon, but the resort of Sierra Nevada at the altitude of 2 100m is one. There you can ski till the end of April - and head back to Orgiva to swim in the pool, surrounded by orange trees bearing both fruit and fragrant blossom.

Notes:
El Olivo is a 3 bedroom villa with a 12m x 5m private pool for the exclusive use of guests. The house is very well equipped and comfortable, with satellite TV, broadband and a dishwasher. The large garden is entirely surrounded by a tall hedge, and in parts a stone wall and cannot be overlooked. It is laid to a lush, bouncy lawn around a 12m x 5m filtered pool, for the exclusive use of guests. Around a built-in barbecue, an outdoor table for 6, a swing chair and 4 loungers provide for a choice of comfortable seating. The pool area is safely fenced off. As both the house and the garden are laid out on one level only (with the exception of the upstairs terrace, which can be kept out of bounds to children, if need be), the house is recommended for those who find walking difficult, and - as the garden is completely enclosed - the house has been very popular for families with small children. Baby-sitting is available on request.
