Studio, Perfect Getaway For Two, Close to Beach Parks & Town
(As you can see by the reviews, it was already a great little studio, but we are making it even better. It's blocked for a few months while we remodel. It will be back with a little more space, a higher ceiling, new flooring, new large windows, new kitchenette and a new private lanai. We'll have new photos posted as soon as the work is done!)
Here is a little gem, set in the charming and historical Hilo beach neighborhood of Keaukaha, that feels like the old Hawaii. Studio bedroom with full bath and private lanai. Property is across the street from the ocean. Cozy room with comfy queen bed, HDTV, full HD cable with on demand and free high speed WiFi. Kitchenette includes small refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. Clean, relaxing, and affordable.
Originally built as an artist studio, the 'Ohana is separate from the main house. It's very private and has it's own separate entrance. There are lots of windows, all facing the rain forest.
• Walking distance to ocean and Hilo's best beach parks for snorkeling, swimming, tide pools, sea turtles, kayaking and whale watching (in winter)
• Beautiful rainforest/garden setting and views. It feels like you are in a tree house
• Small but comfy, approximately 250 square feet
• Small full bath (shower, sink, toilet)
• Standing/oscillating fan
• Tastefully decorated
• Large comfy new queen bed, 100% cotton sheets
• 40 minutes to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park & just 10 minutes to downtown Hilo
• Beach gear available for use: towels, chairs, mats, boogie board
• Sunny part of Hilo
• Private deck/lanai attached to Ohana
It is a bit rustic, but with a great bed, HDTV and free WiFi, it feels like luxury camping. Coqui frogs will sing you to sleep each night.
Just a short walk to the ocean. There are beach parks within 5 minutes of this property including Carlsmith Beach Park, Leleiwi Beach Park and the popular Richardson's Beach Park with black sand.
Hilo Town is home to one of the best Farmer's Markets in Hawai'i and some of the best restaurants around. Yummy dining options, shopping, gateway to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, orchid orchards, waterfalls, rainforest, golf, zip lining, hiking, and more. We are happy to share our knowledge about where to go and what to do while on the Big Island.

A beautiful stay in a rainforest hideaway
This was a lovely clean, well kept studio in a secluded area of Hilo surrounded by rainforest and coqui frogs. Traditional Hawaiian with no AC but fans and screened windows were perfect. It was chilly when we were there so we actually closed the windows. Cathy and Dave were most hospitable hosts and allowed us to use their BBQ grill and some extra utensils. There is no kitchen but there is a sink, mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker (all the essentials). TV and WiFi available if you need it and the location is a quick drive from downtown Hilo. There is public beach access within walking distance. During our stay, Hilo had been experiencing wetter than usually weather (had been raining daily for almost a month!). We opted to return to Kona just to chase the sun. I did not expect any type of refund, but just wanted to let Cathy and Dave know as a courtesy. They completely understood and were kind enough to refund one of the unused nights. We certainly appreciated that! Overall, if you are planning on spending time in Hilo, take advantage of this VRBO.
Beautiful location, comfortable room, very convenient to Hilo town/beaches/attractions
Jeff and Cathy were very gracious and helpful. Room was very comfortable, but lacked a full kitchen. We especially liked the easy access to Hilo, Rainbow falls, museums and the Botanical Garden (outstanding). Volcano National Park was about an hour away, but an easy drive.

Secluded yet conveniently located
This property was perfect for our needs. We were close to the beaches and downtown was just a short ride away. The room was comfortable, light, airy and easily accessible from our vehicle.
The hosts were very accommodating and friendly. They made sure all creature comforts were provided.
I highly recommend a stay in the 'Ohana if you wish to avoid large and impersonal hotels.
Old hilo experience.
Beautiful spot in a great location. The yard was very peaceful. Close to beach access and to town. If you don't need a kitchen this is a great option
Awesome little studio. Loved staying here and would highly recommend!
Beautifully kept and lovely
Cozy studio was exactly as expected. Cathy and Jeff greeted us and had some great recommendations for the area! We didn't make use of the beach gear but it was really appreciated. The nearby beaches are delightful and we had a great time discovering the west side of the island.
